Is de controller een boekhouder of een businesspartner? Waaruit het vak van een controller bestaat, is allerminst duidelijk. Zelfs controllers kunnen vaak niet onder woorden brengen wat hun functie precies inhoudt. De auteurs van dit artikel pleiten ervoor dat de controller zich weer geheel ten dienste stelt aan de doelstellingen die ‘zijn’ organisatie nastreeft. Het zal de effectiviteit van de functie ten goede komen

Lisfranc and Chopart amputation:A systematic review

Background: Lisfranc and Chopart amputations are historically controversial procedures. To obtain evidence for the pros and cons we performed a systematic review to analyze wound healing, the need for re-amputation at a higher level, and ambulation after a Lisfranc or Chopart amputation. Methods: A literature search was performed in 4 databases (Cochrane, Embase, Medline, and PsycInfo), using database-specific search strategies. Reference lists were studied to include relevant studies that were missed in the search. Of the 2881 publications found, 16 studies could be included in this review. Excluded publications concerned editorials, reviews, letters to the editor, no full text available, case reports, not meeting the topic, and written in a language other than English, German, or Dutch. Results: Failed wound healing occurred in 20% after Lisfranc amputation, in 28% after modified Chopart amputation, and 46% after conventional Chopart amputation. After Lisfranc amputation, 85% of patients were able to ambulate without prosthesis for short distances, and after modified Chopart 74%. After a conventional Chopart amputation, 26% (10/38) had unlimited household ambulation. Conclusions: The need for re-amputation because wound healing problems occurred most frequently after conventional Chopart amputation. All 3 types of amputation levels do, however, provide a functional residual limb, with the remaining ability to ambulate without prosthesis for short distances. Lisfranc and modified Chopart amputations should be considered before proceeding to a more proximal level of amputation. Further studies are needed to identify patient characteristics to predict favorable outcomes of Lisfranc and Chopart amputations.</p

Goalkeeper in het basisonderwijs:een methode gericht op het ontwikkelen van zelfregulatieve vaardigheden binnen een les bewegingsonderwijs

​De lesmethode Goalkeeper stimuleert de ontwikkeling van zelfregulatieve vaardigheden bij leerlingen in het onderwijs. Zelfregulatie is een belangrijke ‘21st century skill’: het omvat vaardigheden zoals een doel stellen, plannen, monitoren, evalueren en reflecteren, die van belang zijn voor succes in diversie domeinen, zoals sport en leefstijl, maar ook in onderwijs en werk. ​Zelfregulatie is één van de centrale 21e -eeuwse vaardigheden in het curriculum van de toekomst. (SLO, 2014)  Het ontwikkelen van zelfregulatie vraagt echter om een andere lesinhoud en didactiek. De lesinhoud moet meer mogelijkheden bieden tot het maken van keuzes door de leerlingen. De didactiek moet meer ondersteunend zijn voor het aanleren van zelfregulatieve vaardigheden. De sportcontext is erg geschikt om zelfregulatie te ontwikkelen, omdat leerlingen hierin op korte termijn meetbare en concrete doelen kunnen stellen waar ze naartoe kunnen werken. Goalkeeper is een interventie die leerlingen o.a. in gymles en op het schoolplein de mogelijkheid biedt om zelfregulatievaardigheden te ontwikkelen en deze vervolgens toe te passen in het domein leefstijl

OR and simulation in combination for optimization

This chapter aims to promote and illustrate the fruitful combination of classical Operations Research (OR) and Computer Simulation. First, a highly instructive example of parallel queues will be studied. This simple example already shows the necessary combination of OR (queueing) and simulation that appears to be of practical interest such as for call center optimization. Next, two more ’real life’ applications are regarded:\ud - blood platelet production and inventory management at blood banks, and \ud - train conflict resolution for railway junctions.\ud Both applications show the useful combination of Simulation and optimization methods from OR, in particular Stochastic Dynamic Programming (SDP) and Markov decision theory (MDP), to obtain simple rules that are nearly optimal. The results are based on real life Dutch case studies and show that this combined OR-Simulation approach can be most useful for ’practical optimization’ and that it is still wide open for further application
