After the start of the communist dictatorship in 1948, schools for children requiring special care,
including special schools for children with reduced intellectual abilities, became part of the school
system. These institutions sought to educate young people, break them out of their social isolation
and prepare them for practical life and place them in socially beneficial work. One’s recognition was
based on his or her work within building socialist society
