JSBML 1.0: providing a smorgasbord of options to encode systems biology models
JSBML, the official pure Java programming library for the SBML format, has evolved with the advent of different modeling formalisms in systems biology and their ability to be exchanged and represented via extensions of SBML. JSBML has matured into a major, active open-source project with contributions from a growing, international team of developers who not only maintain compatibility with SBML, but also drive steady improvements to the Java interface and promote ease-of-use with end users
Dietary Heterocyclic Amine Intake and Colorectal Adenoma Risk: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
BACKGROUND Heterocyclic amines (HCA) are potent carcinogenic substances formed in meat. Because of their mutagenic activity, they may increase the risk of colorectal adenomas, which are the precursors of colorectal cancer, one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide. The aim of this meta-analysis was to synthesize the knowledge about the intake of HCAs and its associations with CRA. METHODS We conducted a systematic search in PubMed and EMBASE. We used odds ratios (OR); or relative risks, RR) from every reported intake and compared the highest versus lowest level of dietary HCAs. In addition, we assessed a dose-response relationship. RESULTS Twelve studies on HCA intake and risk of CRA were included in our analysis. We observed a statistically significant association when comparing top versus bottom intake category of 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine [PhIP; OR = 1.20; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.12-1.29], 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx; OR = 1.20; 95% CI = 1.08-1.34), 2-amino-3,4,8-trimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (DiMeIQx; OR = 1.16; 95% CI = 1.05-1.27), benzo(a)pyrene (BaP; OR = 1.15; 95% CI = 1.04-1.27), and mutagenicity index (OR = 1.22; 95% CI = 1.06-1.41). Furthermore, we observed a significant dose-response effect for PhIP, MeIQx, and mutagenicity index. CONCLUSIONS This meta-analysis suggests that there is a positive association of HCAs, BaP, mutagenicity index with risk of CRA. In addition, our dose-response analyses showed an increased risk of CRA for PhIP, MeIQx, and mutagenicity index. IMPACT This study provides evidence for a positive association between the dietary intake of meat mutagens and CRA risk
Low-Carbon Europe 2050: Decomposition analysis of long-term projections for the European Union and selected Member States
In order to elaborate the scenario “Greenhousegas Neutral Europe“ UBA has commissioned a survey on levers relevant for decarbonisation in selected energy scenarios. Overall, significant mitigation potential can be observed in the power sector, although scenarios differ in realizing emissions reductions in 2050. The respective levers for decarbonisation in the sectors are: Renewable energies in the power sector. Energy effiency, electrification and renewable energies in the services and building sectors. In the transport sector relevant levers are energy efficiency, renewable fuels, electrification and power-to-gas or power-to-liquid options. The industry sector could benefit by using renewable energies, electrification, carbon capture and storage and power-to-gas or power to liquid options
Concordia (Book of Concord, 1581)
The Book of Concord (Concordia) is the foundational collection of Lutheran confessional teachings. It includes the three ecumenical creeds (Apostles\u27 Creed, Nicene Creed, Athanasian Creed), the Augsburg Confession of 1530, the Apology to the Augsburg Confession, the Smalcald Articles of Martin Luther, the Treatise on the Power and Primacy of the Pope, the Small Catechism of Martin Luther, the Large Catechism of Martin Luther, the Epitome of the Formula of Concord, and the Declaration of the Formula of Concord.
The definitive edition of the book was first published in Dresden, Germany, in 1580 by the printers Stöckel and Bergen. However, there are a family of Concordias that were published in 1579, 1580, and 1581 that unique variations.
The Special Collections in the Library at Concordia University, Saint Paul, holds a 1581 Concordia. This work was published in Dresden, Germany, without the baptism and marriage booklets and includes two additional pages of names of subscribers that were submitted too late for the 1580 Concordia publication. The work was originally owned by Johannes Hunnenberger, an original subscriber, and appears to have been donated to Concordia Saint Paul around 1893 (the College\u27s founding) by the Rev. Joseph A. Schmidt, former LCMS Michigan District President (1882-1891).https://digitalcommons.csp.edu/reformation-16th-century/1000/thumbnail.jp
LLAMA: The Low-Level Abstraction For Memory Access
The performance gap between CPU and memory widens continuously. Choosing the
best memory layout for each hardware architecture is increasingly important as
more and more programs become memory bound. For portable codes that run across
heterogeneous hardware architectures, the choice of the memory layout for data
structures is ideally decoupled from the rest of a program. This can be
accomplished via a zero-runtime-overhead abstraction layer, underneath which
memory layouts can be freely exchanged.
We present the Low-Level Abstraction of Memory Access (LLAMA), a C++ library
that provides such a data structure abstraction layer with example
implementations for multidimensional arrays of nested, structured data. LLAMA
provides fully C++ compliant methods for defining and switching custom memory
layouts for user-defined data types. The library is extensible with third-party
allocators.
Providing two close-to-life examples, we show that the LLAMA-generated AoS
(Array of Structs) and SoA (Struct of Arrays) layouts produce identical code
with the same performance characteristics as manually written data structures.
Integrations into the SPEC CPU\textsuperscript{\textregistered} lbm benchmark
and the particle-in-cell simulation PIConGPU demonstrate LLAMA's abilities in
real-world applications. LLAMA's layout-aware copy routines can significantly
speed up transfer and reshuffling of data between layouts compared with naive
element-wise copying.
LLAMA provides a novel tool for the development of high-performance C++
applications in a heterogeneous environment.Comment: 40 pages, 10 figures, 11 listing
