Paediatric steatotic liver disease has unique characteristics:Â :A multisociety statement endorsing the new nomenclature
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been a commonly used term and diagnosis in paediatric hepatology, gastroenterology, and endocrinology clinics for over 30 years. A multisociety Delphi process has determined a new name "Steatotic Liver Disease" (SLD) as the overarching term for disorders associated with hepatic lipid accumulation. Our Societies give our support to steatotic liver disease as the best overarching term for use in our communities. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) overcomes many of the shortcomings of the name NAFLD. Here, we highlight several points of the new nomenclature that are of particular importance for our community and their consequences for implementation including: diagnostic criteria, considering alternate diagnoses, practical implementation, research, advocacy, and education for paediatricians. As with all nomenclature changes, it will take a concerted effort from our paediatric societies to help integrate the optimal use of this into practice.</p
Financial and Labor Market Determinants of Mortgage Delinquency Rates: McLean County, 1985-2011
It is generally understood that the 2007- 2009 recession in the United States had its roots in the real estate market. To quote Schiller (2008): “a speculative bubble in the housing market (...) has now caused ruptures among many other countries in the form of financial failures and a global credit crunch” (p. 1). There is a growing body of literature on the economic impact of the bursting of this “speculative bubble”. Efforts have been directed at examining how financial institutions have been impacted and at considering different efforts to re-regulate this industry. As the economic recovery from this particular recession has been slower than after previous contractions, particularly in terms of job creation, research efforts have also focused on labor markets. In this paper, we examine the interplay between financial and labor market factors and the real estate market at the local level. We study McLean County, Illinois, since this county, while being the largest in the state in terms of square mileage, has a median income level and a home ownership rate comparable to those of Cook County –where the City of Chicago is located

Insights into paediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease from genetic variants.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a multifactorial condition with a significant genetic
contribution to its pathogenesis and progression. Over the past decade, there has been much
investigation into genetic variants associated with NAFLD in adults1 but there have been only a handful
of studies focusing on children2. In this issue, Hudert et al.3 combines candidate single nucleotide
polymorphism (SNP) testing with proteomics and computational modelling in a cohort of 70 children
with biopsy-proven NAFLD to deepen our understanding of these genetic variants. Exploring the role
of genetic variants in pediatric NAFLD is particularly important due to its unique histology with
periportal/zone 1-predominant localisation of steatosis and inflammation, which is associated with
more advanced fibrosis4
