    Electrical characteristics of metal-insulator-semiconductor Schottky diodes using a photowashing treatment in AlzGa1-xAs/InGaAs (X=0.75) pseudimorphic high electron mobility transistors

    MIS Schottky diodes on Al0.75Ga0.25As/In0.2Ga0.8As PHEMTs were produced using both photowashing and H2O2 treatments. The Schottky contact on the GaAs layer with photowashing and H2O2 treatments showed enhancements of the SBH of about 0.11 and 0.05 eV, respectively. However, on the undoped AlGaAs layer, no further improvement in SBH was observed. After the photowashing treatment, the Ga oxide (Ga2O3) was dominantly created. In the mean time, two types of As oxide (As2O3,As5O2) were mainly produced by the H2O2 treatment, which are distributed uniformly on the GaAs surface. The thickness of the oxide layer formed by both treatments was nearly the same. Applying a representative model, formation of Ga oxide after the photowashing treatment effectively enhanced the SBH.open4

    The seroprevalence of Japanese encephalitis virus in goats raised in Korea

    Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) causes a mosquito-borne viral zoonosis that is becoming increasingly important to public health in east and south Asia. Although JEV is primarily associated with reproductive failure in swine, JEV infection can cause fever and headache in humans and is associated with aseptic meningitis and encephalitis. The exact mode of transmission, including host range and possible source of viral amplification within livestock, is still not completely clear. This study consisted of a serological survey of JEV infection in goats. A total of 804 goat serum samples were collected from 144 farms in Korea between May 2005 and May 2006. The incidence of positive cases was 12.1% (97 out of 804 goats). The seroprevalence of JEV infection in the 144 farms screened was 31.3% (45/144), indicating that JEV infection is frequent in goat farms in Korea. In addition, three districts of Korea (mainly in the southern region) had a higher seroprevalence of JEV compared to other areas. The results suggest that goats could be monitored epidemiologically as a sentinel animal for JEV transmission in Korea

    A 60-year-old man presented with cough, sputum, and dyspnea. He had a history of acute myeloid leukemia and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation with chronic renal failure. Chest CT scans showed miliary nodules and patchy consolidations. Histological examination revealed numerous fibrin balls within the alveoli and thickening of the alveolar septum, both of which are typical pathological features of acute fibrinous and organizing pneumonia (AFOP).     Prognostic Factors and Clinical Outcomes of High-Dose Chemotherapy followed by Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation in Patients with Peripheral T Cell Lymphoma, Unspecified: Complete Remission at Transplantation and the Prognostic Index of Peripheral T Cell Lymphoma Are the Major Factors Predictive of Outcome

    AbstractHigh-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (HDT/ASCT) offers a rescue option for T cell lymphoma patients with poor prognosis. However, the effectiveness of HDT/ASCT in patients with various peripheral T cell subtypes, optimal transplant timing, and the prognostic factors that predict better outcomes, have not been identified. We retrospectively investigated the clinical outcomes and prognostic factors for HDT/ASCT in 64 Korean patients with peripheral T cell lymphoma, unspecified (PTCL-U) between March 1995 and February 2007. The median age at transplantation was 44 years (range: 15-63 years). According to the age-adjusted International Prognostic Index (a-IPI) and the prognostic index of PTCL (PIT), 8 patients (12.5%) were in the high-risk group and 16 (26.6%) had the 2-3 PIT factors, respectively. After a median follow-up of 29.7 months, the 3-year overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) rates were 53.0% ± 7.5% and 44.3% ± 7.0%, respectively. Univariate analysis showed that poor performance status, high lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels, high a-IPI score, high PIT classes, failure to achieve complete response (CR) at transplantation, and nonfrontline transplantation were associated with poor OS. Multivariate analysis showed that failure to achieve CR at transplantation (hazard ratio [HR] 2.23; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.78-7.93) and 2-3 PIT factors (HR 3.76; 95% CI 1.02-5.42) were independent prognostic factors for OS. Failure to achieve CR at transplantation and high PIT are negative predictable factors for survival following HDT/ASCT in patients with PTCL-U

    NICE 2023 Zero-shot Image Captioning Challenge

    In this report, we introduce NICE project\footnote{\url{https://nice.lgresearch.ai/}} and share the results and outcomes of NICE challenge 2023. This project is designed to challenge the computer vision community to develop robust image captioning models that advance the state-of-the-art both in terms of accuracy and fairness. Through the challenge, the image captioning models were tested using a new evaluation dataset that includes a large variety of visual concepts from many domains. There was no specific training data provided for the challenge, and therefore the challenge entries were required to adapt to new types of image descriptions that had not been seen during training. This report includes information on the newly proposed NICE dataset, evaluation methods, challenge results, and technical details of top-ranking entries. We expect that the outcomes of the challenge will contribute to the improvement of AI models on various vision-language tasks.Comment: Tech report, project page https://nice.lgresearch.ai

    Multicenter retrospective analysis of 581 patients with primary intestinal non-hodgkin lymphoma from the Consortium for Improving Survival of Lymphoma (CISL)

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Primary intestinal non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is a heterogeneous disease with regard to anatomic and histologic distribution. Thus, analyses focusing on primary intestinal NHL with large number of patients are warranted.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We retrospectively analyzed 581 patients from 16 hospitals in Korea for primary intestinal NHL in this retrospective analysis. We compared clinical features and treatment outcomes according to the anatomic site of involvement and histologic subtypes.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>B-cell lymphoma (n = 504, 86.7%) was more frequent than T-cell lymphoma (n = 77, 13.3%). Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) was the most common subtype (n = 386, 66.4%), and extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) was the second most common subtype (n = 61, 10.5%). B-cell lymphoma mainly presented as localized disease (Lugano stage I/II) while T-cell lymphomas involved multiple intestinal sites. Thus, T-cell lymphoma had more unfavourable characteristics such as advanced stage at diagnosis, and the 5-year overall survival (OS) rate was significantly lower than B-cell lymphoma (28% versus 71%, P < 0.001). B symptoms were relatively uncommon (20.7%), and bone marrow invasion was a rare event (7.4%). The ileocecal region was the most commonly involved site (39.8%), followed by the small (27.9%) and large intestines (21.5%). Patients underwent surgery showed better OS than patients did not (5-year OS rate 77% versus 57%, P < 0.001). However, this beneficial effect of surgery was only statistically significant in patients with B-cell lymphomas (P < 0.001) not in T-cell lymphomas (P = 0.460). The comparison of survival based on the anatomic site of involvement showed that ileocecal regions had a better 5-year overall survival rate (72%) than other sites in consistent with that ileocecal region had higher proportion of patients with DLBCL who underwent surgery. Age > 60 years, performance status ≥ 2, elevated serum lactate dehydrogenase, Lugano stage IV, presence of B symptoms, and T-cell phenotype were independent prognostic factors for survival.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The survival of patients with ileocecal region involvement was better than that of patients with involvement at other sites, which might be related to histologic distribution, the proportion of tumor stage, and need for surgical resection.</p

    Functional hybrid indium-tin-oxide transparent conductive electrodes for light-emitters

    Recently, new types of nano-materials such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, and silver nanowires have been demonstrated as next-generation transparent conductive electrodes (TCEs) in organic and inorganic light-emitting devices owing to their unique functional features such as mechanical flexibility, improved electrical conductivity, high optical transmittance across the entire wavelength range, and surface plasmonic effects. Functional TCEs fabricated with indium-tin-oxide (ITO) materials were developed in this research to maximize the output efficiency of III-nitride light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The functional ITO TCE consists of a small area portion (∼2%) of e-beam evaporated ITO (acting as an Ohmic patch) and a sputtered ITO over-layer (acting as a current spreader). They yield excellent optical transmittance of 93.1% at 450 nm, sheet resistance of 24.2 Ω/sq, and specific contact resistance of 1.5 × 10−3 Ωcm2. More strikingly, LEDs fabricated with functional hybrid ITO show 62% greater output power than the reference LEDs fabricated with conventional ITO. This was due to the functional feature of hybrid ITO, i.e., a significant vertical out-coupling of laterally guided modes at near the e-beam evaporated Ohmic patch (because of the generated trapezoidal cylindrical surface textures on the ITO surface), enhanced uniform current spreading as well as to the improved TCE performances. © 2017 Elsevier B.V2

    Identification of Adipose-Specific iNKT Cell Subpopulation through Single-Cell RNA Sequencing

    Invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells are innate T cells that recognize CD1d-loaded lipid antigens. In adipose tissue, iNKT cells contribute to maintenance of adipose tissue homeostasis through active communication with CD1d-positive adipocytes. By recognizing lipid antigens, adipose iNKT cells kill harmful cells, such as hypertrophic adipocytes and pro-inflammatory macrophages, and promote stem cell proliferation. These characteristics seem not to be observed in hepatic or splenic iNKT cells. However, it has not been thoroughly understood how adipose iNKT cells control cell fates in adipose tissue. Here, we adopted single-cell RNA sequencing to identify unique subpopulations of adipose iNKT cells involved in the clearance of deleterious cells or stem cell renewal. Adipose iNKT cells were largely categorized into 3 subpopulations; iNKT1A, iNKT1B, and iNKT17. Transcriptome analysis revealed that iNKT1A cells were the adipose-specific subpopulation, while iNKT1B and iNKT17 cells were similar to splenic and thymic iNKT cells. Moreover, adoptive transfer experiments showed that iNKT1A cells were generated only in adipose tissue, but not in other organs, indicating that adipose tissue microenvironment plays crucial roles for generation of iNKT1A cells. Collectively, our data showed that iNKT1A cells would be the adipose-specific iNKT subpopulation and could be generated by adipose tissue microenvironment. © FASEB
