    Effect of IT Capability on the Alignment between Business and Service Innovation Strategies

    Information Technology (IT) capability is believed to encourage and facilitate service innovation. In addition, since effective competitive strategy is particularly important for service firms, it is imperative to align their service innovation strategy with their business strategy to achieve better firm performance. Many service innovation studies have been performed on the influence of IT capability and the strategic alignment separately in the past, but this study combines them by investigating the moderating effect of IT capability on the alignment between business and service innovation strategies. Based on empirical data collected from 183 service firms in Korea, this study aims first to explore whether a certain service innovation strategy is more effective with a particular business strategy for better firm performance. We then investigate the moderating effect of IT capability on the relationship between the strategic alignments and firm performance. The empirical evidence indicates that there is a synergistic effect between strategic alignment and IT capability on firm performance. Firms that have aligned service innovation strategy with business strategy need to consider the improvement of organizational IT capability with an assurance that they will be leveraged substantially. Lastly, we discuss our study’s implications for further research and practice

    Event Fusion Photometric Stereo Network

    We present a novel method to estimate the surface normal of an object in an ambient light environment using RGB and event cameras. Modern photometric stereo methods rely on an RGB camera, mainly in a dark room, to avoid ambient illumination. To alleviate the limitations of the darkroom environment and to use essential light information, we employ an event camera with a high dynamic range and low latency. This is the first study that uses an event camera for the photometric stereo task, which works on continuous light sources and ambient light environment. In this work, we also curate a novel photometric stereo dataset that is constructed by capturing objects with event and RGB cameras under numerous ambient lights environment. Additionally, we propose a novel framework named Event Fusion Photometric Stereo Network~(EFPS-Net), which estimates the surface normals of an object using both RGB frames and event signals. Our proposed method interpolates event observation maps that generate light information with sparse event signals to acquire fluent light information. Subsequently, the event-interpolated observation maps are fused with the RGB observation maps. Our numerous experiments showed that EFPS-Net outperforms state-of-the-art methods on a dataset captured in the real world where ambient lights exist. Consequently, we demonstrate that incorporating additional modalities with EFPS-Net alleviates the limitations that occurred from ambient illumination.Comment: 33 pages, 11 figure

    The Fit between Client IT Capability and Vendor Competence and Its Impact on Outsourcing Success

    This study investigates the impact of client firm’s IT capability, vendor firm’s competence and their fit on the outsourcing success. In theory building, by concretizing the concepts of IT capability and competence based on the resource-based view, the importance of fit between the client’s IT capability and the vendor’s competence is emphasized. We then hypothesize that both factors are stronger together than the individual impact of either the client’s IT capability or the vendor’s competence. For validation, 267 client-vendor-matched-pair data were collected. To avoid potential imbalance caused by the bilateral perspective, an exploratory approach, all-possible-subsets-regression method was adopted. The results reveal that the vendor’s competence is the most significant factor in outsourcing success, but interestingly, the fit between vendor competence and the client’s IT capability is the second most important. The client’s IT capability also has a positive impact on outsourcing success but with the smallest explanation power

    OASIS: Online Application for the Survival Analysis of Lifespan Assays Performed in Aging Research

    Aging is a fundamental biological process. Characterization of genetic and environmental factors that influence lifespan is a crucial step toward understanding the mechanisms of aging at the organism level. To capture the different effects of genetic and environmental factors on lifespan, appropriate statistical analyses are needed.We developed an online application for survival analysis (OASIS) that helps conduct various novel statistical tasks involved in analyzing survival data in a user-friendly manner. OASIS provides standard survival analysis results including Kaplan-Meier estimates and mean/median survival time by taking censored survival data. OASIS also provides various statistical tests including comparison of mean survival time, overall survival curve, and survival rate at specific time point. To visualize survival data, OASIS generates survival and log cumulative hazard plots that enable researchers to easily interpret their experimental results. Furthermore, we provide statistical methods that can analyze variances among survival datasets. In addition, users can analyze proportional effects of risk factors on survival.OASIS provides a platform that is essential to facilitate efficient statistical analyses of survival data in the field of aging research.     High-efficiency tooth bleaching using non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma with low concentration of hydrogen peroxide

    Light-activated tooth bleaching with a high hydrogen peroxide (HP; H2O2) concentration has risks and the actual role of the light source is doubtful. The use of conventional light might result in an increase in the temperature and cause thermal damage to the health of the tooth tissue. Objective This study investigated the efficacy of tooth bleaching using non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma (NAPP) with 15% carbamide peroxide (CP; CH6N2O3) including 5.4% HP, as compared with conventional light sources. Material and Methods Forty human teeth were randomly divided into four groups: Group I (CP+NAPP), Group II (CP+plasma arc lamp; PAC), Group III (CP+diode laser), and Group IV (CP alone). Color changes (∆E) of the tooth and tooth surface temperatures were measured. Data were evaluated by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc Tukey's tests. Results Group I showed the highest bleaching efficacy, with a ∆E value of 1.92-, 2.61 and 2.97-fold greater than those of Groups II, III and IV, respectively (

    AoA-based Position and Orientation Estimation Using Lens MIMO in Cooperative Vehicle-to-Vehicle Systems

    Positioning accuracy is a critical requirement for vehicle-to-everything (V2X) use cases. Therefore, this paper derives the theoretical limits of estimation for the position and orientation of vehicles in a cooperative vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) scenario, using a lens-based multiple-input multiple-output (lens-MIMO) system. Following this, we analyze the Crameˊ\acute{\text{e}}r-Rao lower bounds (CRLBs) of the position and orientation estimation and explore a received signal model of a lens-MIMO for the particular angle of arrival (AoA) estimation with a V2V geometric model. Further, we propose a lower complexity AoA estimation technique exploiting the unique characteristics of the lens-MIMO for a single target vehicle; as a result, its estimation scheme is effectively extended by the successive interference cancellation (SIC) method for multiple target vehicles. Given these AoAs, we investigate the lens-MIMO estimation capability for the positions and orientations of vehicles. Subsequently, we prove that the lens-MIMO outperforms a conventional uniform linear array (ULA) in a certain configuration of a lens's structure. Finally, we confirm that the proposed localization algorithm is superior to ULA's CRLB as the resolution of the lens increases in spite of the lower complexity.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figure

    Association of leisure-time physical activity and resistance training with risk of incident hypertension: The Ansan and Ansung study of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES)

    Hypertension is the most common preventable risk factor for the onset of cardiovascular disease and mortality. We aimed to investigate the association between incident hypertension and 4-year leisure-time physical activity (PA) levels and resistance training (RT). In this community-based Korean cohort, 5,075 participants without hypertension were included. To evaluate cumulative PA, the average PA time (the total time of moderate-intensity leisure-time PA) at baseline, 2-year follow-up, and 4-year follow-up were calculated. Based on participation in RT and compliance to PA guidelines (≥150 min/week of PA time), the participants were divided into the following four groups: Low-PA, Low-PA+RT, High-PA, and High-PA+RT. A multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to evaluate the 12-year incidence of hypertension in relation to leisure-time PA levels and RT regularity. During a mean 7.86 ± 4.20-year follow-up, 2,544 participants (1,366 women) were diagnosed with hypertension. Compared with Low-PA, High-PA, and High-PA+RT decreased the risk for hypertension by 30 and 39%, respectively. Participation in RT without compliance to PA guidelines did not affect the incidence of hypertension. The additive effect of RT on hypertension in the High-PA group was further examined. Although sex-based comparisons indicated that men had a significantly longer training period for RT than women, an additional reduction in the risk for hypertension in relation to the addition of RT was observed only in women (35%). PA may confer protective effects against hypertension, whereas the addition of RT to high levels of PA can further reduce the risk for hypertension in women

    Hypochoeris radicata attenuates LPS-induced inflammation by suppressing P38, ERK, and JNK phosphorylation in Raw 264.7 macrophages

    Hypochoeris radicata, an invasive plant species, is a large and growing threat to ecosystem integrity on Jeju Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Therefore, research into the utilization of H. radicata is important and urgently required in order to solve this invasive plant problem in Jeju Island. The broader aim of our research is to elucidate the biological activities of H. radicata, which would facilitate the conversion of this invasive species into high value added products. The present study was undertaken to identify the pharmacological effects of H. radicata flower on the production of inflammatory mediators in macrophages. The results indicate that the ethyl acetate fraction of H. radicata extract (HRF-EA) inhibited the production of pro-inflammatory molecules such as NO, iNOS, PGE2, and COX-2, and cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Furthermore, the phosphorylation of MAPKs such as p38, ERK, and JNK was suppressed by HRF-EA in a concentration-dependent manner. In addition, through HPLC and UPLC fingerprinting, luteolins were also identified and quantified as extract constituents. On the basis of these results, we suggest that H. radicata may be considered possible anti-inflammatory candidates for pharmaceutical and/or cosmetic applications
