A GREEN NANO-BIOTECHNOLOGICAL APPROACH FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF SILVER NANOPARTICLES USING THE SEED COAT OF TAMARINDUS INDICA, STUDY OF ITS ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTICANCER ACTIVITY
Objective: The present study was designed to investigate the antibacterial and anti cancer effect of silver nanoparticle synthesized using the seed coat extract of Tamarindus indica. Methods: In this study, aqueous extract of Tamarindus indica seed coat is used for synthesizing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Plant metabolites in the aqueous extract act as both reducing and capping agents resulting in the formation of stable and shape-controlled AgNPs. The AgNPs thus synthesized were characterized using UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, FTIR and SEM analysis. The nanoparticles were tested for their antibacterial effect against human pathogenic bacteria and anticancer effect against HeLa cell line. Results: Our results suggested that the aromatic compounds like flavanoids in the plant extract are responsible for the reduction of AgNP's. SEM analysis revealed fairly well dimensioned square shaped nanocrystals. The results were positive proving that the synthesized AgNPs possess excellent antibacterial and anticancer properties. Conclusion: The synthesized AgNPs showed maximum anti-bacterial and anti-cancer effect.ร
Green synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticle using Pentatropis capensis and its anti-proliferative activity
The ZnO nanoparticle synthesized by green synthesis method using aerial parts of Pentatropis capensis was characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, and EDAX. The anti proliferative activity was tested against HepG2 and MCF-7 cell lines by MTT assay and the IC50 value was calculated. The absorption peak at 330 nm confirms the presence of ZnO nanoparticle. The FTIR spectra of synthesized ZnO nanoparticle confirm the various groups present in it. The SEM image reveals the size of ZnO nanoparticle, which ranged from 73.4-398.3 nm. The elemental composition of ZnO nanoparticles consists of zinc, carbon, oxygen, potassium, calcium, and chlorine which was determined in EDAX analysis. The IC50 value of anti-proliferative activity was found to be 23.277 ยตg/mL for HepG2 cell line and 12.926 ยตg/mL for the MCF-7 cell line. The green synthesized ZnO nanoparticle showed an effective anti-proliferative activity on both HepG2 and MCF cell line

Phytochemical Evaluation and Antioxidant Activity of Glycosmis mauritiana (lam.) Tanaka Leaf Extract
ABSTRACT Medicinal plants can provide biologically active molecules and lead structures for the development of modified derivatives with enhanced activity and or reduced toxicity. Ensuring the safety, efficacy and quality of traditional medicine is a priority in as much as it must be respected, preserved and promoted as a branch of medicine. In plants, the medicinal value of the secondary metabolites is due to the presence of chemical substances that produce a definite physiological action on the human body. Research into the isolated plant constituents is of great importance for the development of bioactive substances from ethnic medicine. With the emergence of latest technologies and enhanced knowledge about the isolated plant constituents, characterization and analytical tools, lot of compounds are efficiently isolated from potential plants and have been of great contribution to the drug discovery from ethnic plants. The present investigation is aimed at investigating the phytochemical evaluation, quantification and antioxidant studies of a medicinal plant Glycosmis mauritiana. The phytochemical quantification was done for phenolics, tannins and flavanoids. The antioxidant screening was done by FRAP assay and DPPH free radical scavenging assay, using five different solvent extracts. Significant antioxidant activity of ethanolic extracts was recorded in Glycosmis mauritiana which can be used as a potent source of natural antioxidant
