Using a novel source-localized phase regressor technique for evaluation of the vascular contribution to semantic category area localization in BOLD fMRI.
Numerous studies have shown that gradient-echo blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) fMRI is biased toward large draining veins. However, the impact of this large vein bias on the localization and characterization of semantic category areas has not been examined. Here we address this issue by comparing standard magnitude measures of BOLD activity in the Fusiform Face Area (FFA) and Parahippocampal Place Area (PPA) to those obtained using a novel method that suppresses the contribution of large draining veins: source-localized phase regressor (sPR). Unlike previous suppression methods that utilize the phase component of the BOLD signal, sPR yields robust and unbiased suppression of large draining veins even in voxels with no task-related phase changes. This is confirmed in ideal simulated data as well as in FFA/PPA localization data from four subjects. It was found that approximately 38% of right PPA, 14% of left PPA, 16% of right FFA, and 6% of left FFA voxels predominantly reflect signal from large draining veins. Surprisingly, with the contributions from large veins suppressed, semantic category representation in PPA actually tends to be lateralized to the left rather than the right hemisphere. Furthermore, semantic category areas larger in volume and higher in fSNR were found to have more contributions from large veins. These results suggest that previous studies using gradient-echo BOLD fMRI were biased toward semantic category areas that receive relatively greater contributions from large veins

Fayet-Iliopoulos D-terms and anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking
We show that in a minimal extension of the MSSM by means of an extra U(1)
gauge group, the negative mass-squared problem characteristic of the Anomaly
Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking scenario is naturally solved by means of
Fayet-Iliopoulos D-terms. We derive a set of sum rules for the sparticle masses

The Exact Tachyon Beta-Function for the Wess-Zumino-Witten Model
We derive an exact expression for the tachyon -function for the
Wess-Zumino-Witten model. We check our result up to three loops by calculating
the three-loop tachyon -function for a general non-linear -model

Interim report on the ground-water resources of Seminole County, Florida
Salt-water encroachment is undoubtedly the problem of most concern to
users of ground water in Florida. This is a problem in many coastal areas
where water levels are lowered excessively by heavy pumping. It is a
problem also in some inland areas where the water-bearing formations contain
salty water at relatively shallow depths. Among the coastal areas where wells
have become contaminated with salt water are Pinellas County and the Miami
area of Dade County. Inland areas where wells are likely to become contaminated
with salt water include Seminole County and the southwestern part
of Volusia County.
The purpose of the investigation is to make a detailed study of the
geology and ground-water resources of the county with special emphasis on
the problems associated with declining water levels and salt-water
contamination. This report reviews briefly the progress of the investigation

The Gaugino \beta-Function
We present an elegant exact formula for the gaugino -function in a
softly-broken supersymmetric gauge theory, of the form , where is the gauge function and is
a simple differential operator acting on the gauge coupling and the Yukawa

Quasi-infra-red fixed points and renormalisation group invariant trajectories for non-holomorphic soft supersymmetry breaking
In the MSSM the quasi-infra-red fixed point for the top-quark Yukawa coupling
gives rise to specific predictions for the soft-breaking parameters. We discuss
the extent to which these predictions are modified by the introduction of
additional ``non-holomorphic'' soft-breaking terms. We also show that in a
specific class of theories there exists an RG-invariant trajectory for the
``non-holomorphic'' terms, which can be understood using a holomorphic spurion
