Description and evaluation of the Acoustic Profiling of Ocean Currents (APOC) system used on R. V. Oceanus cruise 96 on 11-22 May 1981
The underway current profiling system which consists of a microprocessor controlled data logger that collects and formats data from a four beam Ametek-Straza 300 kHz acoustic Doppler current profiler, heading from the ship's gyrocompass, and navigation information from a Loran-C receiver and a satellite navigation unit is discussed. Data are recorded on magnetic tape and real time is calculated. Time averaging is required to remove effects of ship motion. An intercomparison is made with a moored vector measuring current meter (VMCM). The mean difference in hourly averaged APOC and VMCM currents over the four hour intercomparison is a few mm s minus including: two Gulf Stream crossings, a warm core ring survey, and shallow water in a frontal zone to the east of Nantucket Shoals
Economic evaluation of the Philippine alcogas and cocodiesel programs
The research evaluates the economics of the Philippine alcogas and
cocodiesel fuel programs. It examines the social cost-benefit as well as cost
effectiveness of the different projects of the programs, and determines the
conditions and policies that would significantly affect their economic desirability.
In particular, the comparative advantage of the alternative fuel sources
vis-a-vis imported petroleum is highlighted. The implication of prices particularly
fuel and raw material feedstocks on the competitiveness of alternative
energy sources is assessed under various simulated settings. The main conclusion
of the study indicates that alcogas and cocodiesel fuels are prominently
non-competitive against the conventional energy fuels. In all, the alcogas and
cocodiesel programs look economically unattractive under the prevailing
economic conditions

What are the repercussions of disclosing a medical error?
Physicians and their staff may experience a resolution of anxiety and guilt that can improve their well-being (strength of recommendation [SOR]: C, based on survey data). Full disclosure has little effect, however, on the likelihood that an injured patient will seek legal counsel (SOR: C, based on survey data). Successful disclosure of a medical error can improve a patient's confidence in the physician and lead to improved outcomes (SOR: C, based on expert opinion)
