    Electrorepulsive actuator

    Get PDF
The invention is a linear actuator that operates under the principle that like charges repel and opposite charges attract. The linear actuator consists of first and second pairs of spaced opposed conductors where one member of each pair of conductors is attached to a fixed member, and where the other member of each pair of conductors is attached to a movable member such as an elongated rod. The two pairs of spaced conductors may be provided in the form of two spacedly interwound helical vanes where the conductors are located on the opposite sides of the two helical vanes. One helical vane extends inwardly from a housing and the other helical vane extends outwardly from an elongated rod. The elongated rod may be caused to move linearly with respect to the housing by applying appropriate charges of like or opposite polarity to the electrical conductors on the helical vanes

Effects of Social Media on Self-Image of Emerging Adults

    Get PDF
This project extends previous research on social media and self-image and focuses on the developmental phase of emerging adulthood. We measured individuals’ reports of feeling of being in the emerging adult developmental period, their self-concept clarity and ethnic identity, and their use of social media for self-presentation and comparison with others. An online questionnaire was administered to participants who were in the age group of emerging adulthood (18-25 years). Results indicate that those who were in strong agreement that this was a time of experimentation and that this was a time of feeling “in-between” had greater clarity about their self-concept; that some aspects of social media use are related to some aspects of ethnic identity during emerging adulthood; and that some parameters of social media use are related to some dimensions of emerging adulthood. Results of this study provide further clarification about relations between social media use and the development of self-image during emerging adulthood

The Use of Agricultural Credit Facilities by Fifty Negro Farmers Of Hopkins County, Texas

Farming as a competitive business has become acre and more dependent u^on capital to make full use of other factors of production--land, labor, and management. The wise use of capital may result in a net return that will provide progressive improvement in the farmer*s business operations and standard of living. Borrowing capital for productive purposes is a normal practice and is followed in all business enterprises, The farmer, who has the ability to use productively more capital than he owns, should borrow; and certain institutions have been developed to meet his needs. The ultimate source of funds loaned is the surplus scattered here and there over the country— a surplus which, instead of being needed and applied by the owner, is loaned at interest. The local bank, various branches of the Farm Credit administration, individual merchants, dealers, and farmer® are all managers and/or supervisors of surplus funds, which are passed on to those who are in position to use them in production. It is very important to all concerned, the owner of the surplus funds, the farmer in need of capital, and the business agency which negotiates and supervises the transfer— that the business of placing capital where it is needed, be done with maximum efficiency, and that methods be used which are most satisfactory to investors and borrowers. Financing institutions are designed to serve the needs of Agriculture and attempt to meet the requirements of the farmer1 s business. If the productivity of farmers is of such that they can pay off their mortgage within three or five years, logins should be made available for the specified time. If the farmers\u27 business is better adapted to less than annual payments of the loan, it is mo3t economical for the loan to be made in this manner. Careful consideration of the economical combination of factors of production that will render the farmers ability to repay a loan should be of primary concern of the lending agency as well as the farmer. If the purpose for which the farmer wants money is not productive and there is no substantial prospect of the ability of the borrower to make it remunerative, the loan should not be made

Employment Equality in a Color-Blind Society

The purposes of this article are first, to look at the rights of Negroes, under law, to bring economic pressure to bear for employment equality, including the demand for a quota, and secondly to see how that law is satisfying today\u27s social needs. To achieve this latter purpose, perhaps we must ask whether our society can afford to be legally color-blind? We shall look first to the private self-help devices that have been used by minorities, and then to one area of governmental intervention that has dealt directly with minority employment and the use of quotas or goals to achieve an acceptable balance of minority personnel within a given industry. From this study it is hoped that we can determine the legal limits of demands for proportional hiring both of the private self-help variety and those promulgated by government
