Curiosidades vivas. Los animales de Am茅rica y Filipinas en la M茅nagerie real durante el siglo XVIIII
The article analyzes the important role of animals from Spanish America and the Philippines in Royal zoological collections during the 18th Century. It studies not only the species that were included more frequently in the collections and the criteria for their selection, but also the political and lobbying mechanisms devised for their shipment to the Madrid Court. The article also describes the many obstacles that had to be overcome in order to ensure the survival of the animals in their transoceanic journey.El art铆culo analiza el importante papel desempe帽ado por los animales procedentes de la Am茅rica espa帽ola y de Filipinas en las colecciones zool贸gicas reales durante el siglo XVIII. Head of the Privy Chamber of the sovereign, the sumiller de corps 鈥搊r Grand Chamberlainhad been from the end of the Middle Ages one of the most coveted posts of the Royal Household, because it brought the office-holder into daily contact with the king, and thus enabled him to become the principal beneficiary of royal friendship and favours. Despite its relevance, this office 鈥搇ike the other titular headships of the Spanish Royal Householdis in need of monographic studies and prosopographical analysis. This article explores the institutional evolution of the office, and offers a social profile of its holders during the XVIII century
