Nonsingular FRW cosmology and nonlinear electrodynamics
The possibility to avoid the cosmic initial singularity as a consequence of
nonlinear effects on the Maxwell eletromagnetic theory is discussed. For a flat
FRW geometry we derive the general nonsingular solution supported by a magnetic
field plus a cosmic fluid and a nonvanishing vacuum energy density. The
nonsingular behavior of solutions with a time-dependent -term are
also examined. As a general result, it is found that the functional dependence
of can uniquely be determined only if the magnetic field remains
constant. All these models are examples of bouncing universes which may exhibit
an inflationary dynamics driven by the nonlinear corrections of the magnetic

Cosmological models with linearly varying deceleration parameter
We propose a new law for the deceleration parameter that varies linearly with
time and covers Berman's law where it is constant. Our law not only allows one
to generalize many exact solutions that were obtained assuming constant
deceleration parameter, but also gives a better fit with data (from SNIa, BAO
and CMB), particularly concerning the late time behavior of the universe.
According to our law only the spatially closed and flat universes are allowed;
in both cases the cosmological fluid we obtain exhibits quintom like behavior
and the universe ends with a big-rip. This is a result consistent with recent

Bayesian Analysis and Constraints on Kinematic Models from Union SNIa
The kinematic expansion history of the universe is investigated by using the
307 supernovae type Ia from the Union Compilation set. Three simple model
parameterizations for the deceleration parameter (constant, linear and abrupt
transition) and two different models that are explicitly parametrized by the
cosmic jerk parameter (constant and variable) are considered. Likelihood and
Bayesian analyses are employed to find best fit parameters and compare models
among themselves and with the flat CDM model. Analytical expressions
and estimates for the deceleration and cosmic jerk parameters today ( and
) and for the transition redshift () between a past phase of cosmic
deceleration to a current phase of acceleration are given. All models
characterize an accelerated expansion for the universe today and largely
indicate that it was decelerating in the past, having a transition redshift
around 0.5. The cosmic jerk is not strongly constrained by the present
supernovae data. For the most realistic kinematic models the
confidence limits imply the following ranges of values: ,
and , which are compatible with the
CDM predictions, , and .
We find that even very simple kinematic models are equally good to describe the
data compared to the concordance CDM model, and that the current

Effects of quercetin on exercise performance, physical activity and blood supply in a novel model of sustained hind-limb ischaemia
Background:
There are currently few effective drugs to treat the leg symptoms of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Previous studies have suggested that the nutraceutical, quercetin, can improve exercise performance and reduce pain sensitivity in healthy mice and improve blood supply in a rodent model of acute hind-limb ischaemia. These models may not be relevant to people with PAD. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of quercetin on exercise performance, physical activity and blood supply in a novel mouse model of sustained hind-limb ischaemia.
Methods:
Hind-limb ischaemia was induced in 6-month-old male apolipoprotein E-deficient mice using a novel two-stage surgical procedure. Five days after induction of ischaemia, mice were allocated to commence dietary quercetin or a control diet for 4 weeks. The primary outcome was exercise performance evaluated using a treadmill test. Other outcomes included physical activity, estimated by an open field test, and hind-limb blood supply, assessed by laser Doppler monitoring.
Results:
A sustained reduction in relative limb blood supply (P < 0.001) was achieved consistently in all 48 mice before allocation to a control (n = 24) or quercetin (n = 24) diet. Quercetin did not improve exercise performance (P = 0.785), physical activity (P = 0.151) or relative limb blood supply (P = 0.954) over the 4-week assessment period.
Conclusion:
These data suggest that quercetin does not improve exercise performance, physical activity or limb blood supply in mice with sustained hind-limb ischaemia, and therefore is unlikely be an effective treatment for PAD
Anadenanthera colubrina vell brenan : anti-candida and antibiofilm activities, toxicity and therapeutical action
We evaluated the antifungal and antibiofilm potential of the hydroalcoholic extract of bark from Anadenanthera colubrina (vell.) Brenan, known as Angico, against Candida spp. Antifungal activity was evaluated using the microdilution technique through the Minimum Inhibitory and Fungicide Concentrations (MIC and MFC). The antibiofilm potential was tested in mature biofilms formed by Candida species and analyzed through the counting of CFU/mL and scanning electron micrograph (SEM). In vivo toxicity and therapeutic action was evaluated in the Galleria mellonella model. The treatment with the extract, in low doses, was able to reduce the growth of planktonic cells of Candida species. MIC values range between 19.5 and 39 µg/mL and MFC values range between 79 and 625 µg/mL. In addition was able to reduce the number of CFU/mL in biofilms and to cause structural alteration and cellular destruction, observed via SEM. A. colubrina showed low toxicity in the in vivo assay, having not affected the viability of the larvae at doses below 100mg/kg and high potential in the treatment of C. albicans infection. Constraining the dark energy with galaxy clusters X-ray data
The equation of state characterizing the dark energy component is constrained
by combining Chandra observations of the X-ray luminosity of galaxy clusters
with independent measurements of the baryonic matter density and the latest
measurements of the Hubble parameter as given by the HST key project. By
assuming a spatially flat scenario driven by a "quintessence" component with an
equation of state we place the following limits on the
cosmological parameters and : (i) and (1) if the
equation of state of the dark energy is restricted to the interval (\emph{usual} quintessence) and (ii) and
() if violates the null energy condition and assume values (\emph{extended} quintessence or ``phantom'' energy). These results are in
good agreement with independent studies based on supernovae observations,

Propolis extract as a feed additive of the Nile tilapia juveniles
ABSTRACT This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary propolis alcohol extract supplementation on growth performance, digestibility, intestinal morphometry, and physiologic parameters Nile tilápia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) juveniles. For performance experiment and intestinal morphometry, 120 fish averaging 1.41±0.3g were randomly distributed into 24 tanks (70L each) in a closed recirculation water system with constant aeration and biofilter. The animals were distributed into four treatments using a completely randomized design with six replicates per treatment. The treatments consisted of four pellet feeds with different alcohol propolis concentrations extract (AEP) (0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5gkg-1). The performance experiment period was conducted for 45 days. For the digestibility experiment, an inert marker in the feed and the adapted Guelph feces collecting system were used. The results showed no differences in the performance parameters, crude protein apparent digestibility and dry matter of the feeds, intestinal morphometry, and physiologic parameters. However, there was an increasing linear effect on the energy digestibility with increasing PAE concentrations in the fish feed. The usage of the propolis extract supplementation levels of 1% is recommended for optimum effect on villus morphometry in Nile tilapia

Cosmological Dynamics of Phantom Field
We study the general features of the dynamics of the phantom field in the
cosmological context. In the case of inverse coshyperbolic potential, we
demonstrate that the phantom field can successfully drive the observed current
accelerated expansion of the universe with the equation of state parameter
. The de-Sitter universe turns out to be the late time attractor
of the model. The main features of the dynamics are independent of the initial
conditions and the parameters of the model. The model fits the supernova data
