The rare top quark decays tcVt\to cV in the topcolor-assisted technicolor model

We consider the rare top quark decays in the framework of topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) model. We find that the contributions of top-pions and top-Higgs predicted by the TC2 model can enhance the SM branching ratios by as much as 6-9 orders of magnitude. i.e., in the most case, the orders of magnitude of branching ratios are Br(tcg)105Br(t\to c g)\sim 10^{-5}, Br(tcZ)105Br(t\to c Z)\sim 10^{-5}, Br(tcγ)107Br(t\to c \gamma)\sim 10^{-7}. With the reasonable values of the parameters in TC2 model, such rare top quark decays may be testable in the future experiments. So, rare top quark decays provide us a unique way to test TC2 model.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure

Electromagnetic Mass Splittings in Heavy Mesons

The electromagnetic contribution to the isomultiplet mass splittings of heavy mesons is reanalyzed within the framework of the heavy mass expansion. It is shown that the leading term in the expansion is given to a good approximation by the elastic term. 1/mQ1/m_{Q}-corrections can only be estimated, the main source of uncertainty now being inelastic contributions. The 1/mQ1/m_{Q}-corrections to the elastic term turn out to be relatively small in both D and B pseudoscalar mesons.Comment: 16 pages, report CEBAF-TH-92-26, one figure not included (available if requested

Quantum limits on phase-shift detection using multimode interferometers

    Get PDF
Fundamental phase-shift detection properties of optical multimode interferometers are analyzed. Limits on perfectly distinguishable phase shifts are derived for general quantum states of a given average energy. In contrast to earlier work, the limits are found to be independent of the number of interfering modes. However, the reported bounds are consistent with the Heisenberg limit. A short discussion on the concept of well-defined relative phase is also included.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, REVTeX, uses epsf.st

Isospin splitting in heavy baryons and mesons

A recent general analysis of light-baryon isospin splittings is updated and extended to charmed baryons. The measured Σc\Sigma_c and Ξc\Xi_c splittings stand out as being difficult to understand in terms of two-body forces alone. We also discuss heavy-light mesons; though the framework here is necessarily less general, we nevertheless obtain some predictions that are not strongly model-dependent.Comment: 12 pages REVTEX 3, plus 4 uuencoded ps figures, CMU-HEP93-

Approximate Particle Number Projection for Rotating Nuclei

    Get PDF
Pairing correlations in rotating nuclei are discussed within the Lipkin-Nogami method. The accuracy of the method is tested for the Krumlinde-Szyma\'nski R(5) model. The results of calculations are compared with those obtained from the standard mean field theory and particle-number projection method, and with exact solutions.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures available on request, REVTEX3.

Equivariant cohomology over Lie groupoids and Lie-Rinehart algebras

    Get PDF
Using the language and terminology of relative homological algebra, in particular that of derived functors, we introduce equivariant cohomology over a general Lie-Rinehart algebra and equivariant de Rham cohomology over a locally trivial Lie groupoid in terms of suitably defined monads (also known as triples) and the associated standard constructions. This extends a characterization of equivariant de Rham cohomology in terms of derived functors developed earlier for the special case where the Lie groupoid is an ordinary Lie group, viewed as a Lie groupoid with a single object; in that theory over a Lie group, the ordinary Bott-Dupont-Shulman-Stasheff complex arises as an a posteriori object. We prove that, given a locally trivial Lie groupoid G and a smooth G-manifold f over the space B of objects of G, the resulting G-equivariant de Rham theory of f boils down to the ordinary equivariant de Rham theory of a vertex manifold relative to the corresponding vertex group, for any vertex in the space B of objects of G; this implies that the equivariant de Rham cohomology introduced here coincides with the stack de Rham cohomology of the associated transformation groupoid whence this stack de Rham cohomology can be characterized as a relative derived functor. We introduce a notion of cone on a Lie-Rinehart algebra and in particular that of cone on a Lie algebroid. This cone is an indispensable tool for the description of the requisite monads.Comment: 47 page

Neutral top-pion and lepton flavor violating processes

In the context of topcolor-assisted techicolor(TC2) models, we study the contributions of the neutral top-pion πt0\pi^{0}_{t} to the lepton flavor violating(LFV) processes liljγl_{i}\to l_{j}\gamma and liljlklll_{i}\to l_{j}l_{k}l_{l}. We find that the present experimental bound on μeγ\mu\to e\gamma gives severe constraints on the free parameters of TC2TC2 models. Taking into account these constraints, we consider the processes liljlklll_{i}\to l_{j}l_{k}l_{l} generated by top-pion exchange at the tree-level and the one loop level, and obtain Br(μ3e)2.87×1014Br(\mu\to 3e)\simeq 2.87\times 10^{-14}, 1.1×1015Br(τ3e)Br(τ2eμ)4.4×10151.1\times 10^{-15}\leq Br(\tau\to 3e)\simeq Br(\tau\to 2e\mu)\leq 4.4 \times 10^{-15} , 3.1×1015Br(τ2μe)Br(τ3μ)1.5×10143.1\times 10^{-15} \leq Br(\tau\to 2\mu e)\simeq Br(\tau\to 3\mu)\leq 1.5 \times 10^{-14} in most of the parameter space.Comment: latex files,16 pages, 6 figures. Chromomagnetic Dipole Moment of the Top Quark Revisited

We study the complete one-loop contributions to the chromagnetic dipole moment Δκ\Delta\kappa of the top quark in the Standard Model, two Higgs doublet models, topcolor assited technicolor models (TC2), 331 models and extended models with a single extra dimension. We find that the SM predicts Δκ=0.056\Delta\kappa = - 0.056 and that the predictions of the other models are also consitent with the constraints imposed on Δκ\Delta\kappa by low-energy precision measurements.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures, Updat

Probing Topcolor-Assisted Technicolor from Top-Charm Associated Production at LHC

    Get PDF
We propose to probe the topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) model from the top-charm associated productions at the LHC, which are highly suppressed in the Standard Model. Due to the flavor-changing couplings of the top quark with the scalars (top-pions and top-Higgs) in TC2 model, the top-charm associated productions can occur via both the s-channel and t-channel parton processes by exchanging a scalar field at the LHC. We examined these processes through Monte Carlo simulation and found that they can reach the observable level at the LHC in quite a large part of the parameter space of the TC2 model.Comment: Version to appear in PRD (Rapid Communication
