Dosimetrie van Heelliggaamsbestraling met Elektrone vir die Behandeling van Mycosis Fungoides
A six-field method for whole-body radiation with 3,4 MeV electrons obtained from a Mevatron 8 linear accelerator, is described. The physical properties of the electrons are given, and a method is described whereby the wholebody isodose distributions can be predicted during wholebody irradiation
Engaging the student voices to improve referencing skills and practices in higher education: A South African case study
Acknowledging that plagiarism includes many different behaviours, this study focusses on one specific plagiarism challenge, namely, acts of incorrect referencing and citation (sometimes called technical plagiarism). Notwithstanding anti-plagiarism policies being in place with penalties for a breach of the rules, Referencing Guides shared with students, additional workshops and tutorial sessions to facilitate the students' understanding of the Institution's referencing rules and standards, higher education institutions continue to experience an ongoing increase in the number of (technical) plagiarism cases, including repeat offenders. While the importance of proper referencing skills and techniques is fundamental to sound scholarship, a further concern is the impact of the accruing penalties on student success, retention, and graduateness. This study actively engaged the students, requiring them to reflect on their prior experiences with various sources of information, as well as their understanding and appreciation of how, why, what, and when to reference the resources used in their studies. The study discovered that students often describe the Institution's approach to teaching the skills of referencing as “alienating” and “punitive” and antithetical to learning. Based on the research data, and comparing the outcomes from other similar research studies, the paper propose leading practices that will support higher education institutions better prepare students, especially students of the Alpha Generation, for improved understanding and application of institutional norms for academic referencing and citation practices
The pathological physiology of helminth infestations. 1. Ostertagia circumcincta
An experiment is described in which two sheep were artificially infested with 0. circumcincta and a third kept as an uninfested control. Plastic abomasal fistulae were inserted in these sheep and their erythrocytes were labelled with ⁵¹Cr. Radioactivity counts on blood and abomasal contents were done at regular intervals as well as other reactions being noted.
The main findings were:-
(i) No abnormal decrement in blood counts or increase in abomasal counts.
(ii) An increase in abomasal pH and decrease in pepsin concentration.
(iii) Anorexia and weight loss. The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 300dpi.

The impact of collection tube fill volume on international normalized ratio
INTRODUCTION: Pre-analytical variability currently represents the most important source of errors that can lead to inaccurate patient results in monitoring of patients
being treated with oral anticoagulant therapy. The volume of blood collected is critical for accurate coagulation results. The National Committee for Clinical Laboratory
Standards (NCCLS) recommends a ratio of blood to anticoagulant volume of 9:1. However, investigators have published reports which suggest that a lower ratio may
be acceptable. Unfortunately the recommendations of these reports are inconsistent.
AIM: The aim of this study was to determine the impact of tube fill volume on INR values both in healthy subjects and patients receiving oral anticoagulation therapy.
METHODS: INR values were obtained by processing coagulation specimens containing different volumes of whole blood. The study group included 30 patients taking
oral anticoagulation therapy and 15 healthy volunteers. Respectively 2.5ml, 3 ml, 3.5 ml, 4 ml and 4.5 ml of whole blood was drawn into tubes containing a fixed
volume of 3.2% (0.109M) sodium citrate.
RESULTS: The INR values increased as total tube fill volumes decreased for both groups but this finding did not reach statistical significance in either group for the tube
fill volumes studied.
CONCLUSION: For blood specimens collected in 3.2% citrate anticoagulant, a total tube fill volume of greater than 56% yielded reliable INR resultshttp://www.smltsa.org.z
