Point mutations confer loss of ATP-induced human P2X7 receptor function
AbstractResidues considered essential for ATP binding to the human P2X7 receptor (hP2X7R) were investigated. HEK293 cells or Xenopus oocytes were transfected with wild-type or site-directed mutants of hP2X7R constructs and channel/pore activity measured in the presence of ATP or 2′,3′-O-(4-benzoylbenzoyl)-ATP (BzATP). Barium uptake and ethidium influx into HEK293 cells were abolished in cells expressing K193A and K311A mutants, and were partially reduced in cells expressing mutant P210A. K193A and K311A mutations also completely abolished responses to ATP and BzATP in Xenopus oocytes as measured by electrophysiology. These results indicate that K193 and K311 are essential residues in ATP binding in the hP2X7R
Phantom Cosmology with Non-minimally Coupled Real Scalar Field
We find that the expansion of the universe is accelerating by analyzing the
recent observation data of type \textsc{I}a supernova(SN-Ia) .It indicates
that the equation of state of the dark energy might be smaller than -1,which
leads to the introduction of phantom models featured by its negative kinetic
energy to account for the regime of equation of state parameter .In this
paper the possibility of using a non-minimally coupled real scalar field as
phantom to realize the equation of state parameter is discussed. The main
equations which govern the evolution of the universe are obtained. Then we
rewrite them with the observable quantities.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures. Accepted for publication in Gen.Rel.Gra
Dark Energy and Neutrino Mass Limits from Baryogenesis
In this brief report we consider couplings of the dark energy scalar, such as
Quintessence to the neutrinos and discuss its implications in studies on the
neutrino mass limits from Baryogenesis. During the evolution of the dark energy
scalar, the neutrino masses vary, consequently the bounds on the neutrino
masses we have here differ from those obtained before.Comment: 5 pages,3 figures. Version accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Friedmann-like equations for High Energy Area of Universe
In this paper, evolution of the high energy area of universe, through the
scenario of 5 dimensional (5D) universe, has been studied. For this purpose, we
solve Einstein equations for 5D metric and 5D perfect fuid to derive
Friedmann-like equations. Then we obtain the evolution of scale factor and
energy density with respect to both space-like and time-like extra dimensions.
We obtain the novel equations for the space-like extra dimension and show that
the matter with zero pressure cannot exist in the bulk. Also, for dark energy
fuid and vacuum fluid, we have both accelerated expansion and contraction in
the bulk.Comment: 9 pages, Accepted to publication in IJTP 26 June 2012. arXiv admin

Warehouse design and planning: A mathematical programming approach
The dynamic nature of today's competitive markets compels organizations to an incessant reassessment in an effort to respond to continuous challenges. Therefore, warehouses as an important link in most supply chains, must be continually re-evaluated to ensure that they are consistent with both market's demands and management's strategies. A number of warehouse decision support models have been proposed in the literature but considerable difficulties in applying these models still remain, due to the large amount of information to be processed and to the large number of possible alternatives. In this paper we discuss a mathematical programming model aiming to support some warehouse management and inventory decisions. In particular a large mixed-integer nonlinear programming model (MINLP) is presented to capture the trade-offs among the different inventory and warehouse costs in order to achieve global optimal design satisfying throughput requirements.(undefined)info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Dark Energy and Neutrino CPT Violation
In this paper we study the dynamical CPT violation in the neutrino sector
induced by the dark energy of the Universe. Specifically we consider a dark
energy model where the dark energy scalar derivatively interacts with the
right-handed neutrinos. This type of derivative coupling leads to a
cosmological CPT violation during the evolution of the background field of the
dark energy. We calculate the induced CPT violation of left-handed neutrinos
and find the CPT violation produced in this way is consistent with the present
experimental limit and sensitive to the future neutrino oscillation
experiments, such as the neutrino factory.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures. Typos corrected and references added. To be

Defect structures and torque on an elongated colloidal particle immersed in a liquid crystal host
Combining molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulation we study defect
structures around an elongated colloidal particle embedded in a nematic liquid
crystal host. By studying nematic ordering near the particle and the
disclination core region we are able to examine the defect core structure and
the difference between two simulation techniques. In addition, we also study
the torque on a particle tilted with respect to the director, and modification
of this torque when the particle is close to the cell wall
Coupled Dipole Method Determination of the Electromagnetic Force on a Particle over a Flat Dielectric Substrate
We present a theory to compute the force due to light upon a particle on a
dielectric plane by the Coupled Dipole Method (CDM). We show that, with this
procedure, two equivalent ways of analysis are possible, both based on
Maxwell's stress tensor. The interest in using this method is that the nature
and size or shape of the object, can be arbitrary. Even more, the presence of a
substrate can be incorporated. To validate our theory, we present an analytical
expression of the force due to the light acting on a particle either in
presence, or not, of a surface. The plane wave illuminating the sphere can be
either propagating or evanescent. Both two and three dimensional calculations
are studied.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures and 3 table
Phantom Field with O(N) Symmetry in Exponential Potential
In this paper, we study the phase space of phantom model with O(\emph{N})
symmetry in exponential potential. Different from the model without O(\emph{N})
symmetry, the introduction of the symmetry leads to a lower bound on the
equation of state for the existence of stable phantom dominated attractor
phase. The reconstruction relation between the potential of O(\textit{N})
phantom system and red shift has been derived.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, replaced with the version to appear on Phys. Rev.
