Tests show that 300M steel should be austenitized at temperatures above 1,800 deg. F to yield best combintion of strength and thickness. Tempering should be performed at temperatures between 400 and 600 deg.

Parametrized Complexity of Weak Odd Domination Problems

Given a graph G=(V,E)G=(V,E), a subset BVB\subseteq V of vertices is a weak odd dominated (WOD) set if there exists DVBD \subseteq V {\setminus} B such that every vertex in BB has an odd number of neighbours in DD. κ(G)\kappa(G) denotes the size of the largest WOD set, and κ(G)\kappa'(G) the size of the smallest non-WOD set. The maximum of κ(G)\kappa(G) and Vκ(G)|V|-\kappa'(G), denoted κQ(G)\kappa_Q(G), plays a crucial role in quantum cryptography. In particular deciding, given a graph GG and k>0k>0, whether κQ(G)k\kappa_Q(G)\le k is of practical interest in the design of graph-based quantum secret sharing schemes. The decision problems associated with the quantities κ\kappa, κ\kappa' and κQ\kappa_Q are known to be NP-Complete. In this paper, we consider the approximation of these quantities and the parameterized complexity of the corresponding problems. We mainly prove the fixed-parameter intractability (W[1][1]-hardness) of these problems. Regarding the approximation, we show that κQ\kappa_Q, κ\kappa and κ\kappa' admit a constant factor approximation algorithm, and that κ\kappa and κ\kappa' have no polynomial approximation scheme unless P=NP.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figure

Pose, posture, formation and contortion in kinematic systems

    Get PDF
The concepts of pose, posture, formation and contortion are defined for serial, parallel and hybrid kinematic systems. Workspace and jointspace structure is examined in terms of these concepts. The inter-relationships of pose, posture, formation and contortion are explored for a range of robot workspace and jointspace types

Characterization of the Interaction between the Herpes Simplex Virus Type I Fc Receptor and Immunoglobulin G

    Get PDF
Herpes simplex virus type I (HSV-1) virions and HSV-1-infected cells bind to human immunoglobulin G (hIgG) via its Fc region. A complex of two surface glycoproteins encoded by HSV-1, gE and gI, is responsible for Fc binding. We have co-expressed soluble truncated forms of gE and gI in Chinese hamster ovary cells. Soluble gE-gI complexes can be purified from transfected cell supernatants using a purification scheme that is based upon the Fc receptor function of gE-gI. Using gel filtration and analytical ultracentrifugation, we determined that soluble gE-gI is a heterodimer composed of one molecule of gE and one molecule of gI and that gE-gI heterodimers bind hIgG with a 1:1 stoichiometry. Biosensor-based studies of the binding of wild type or mutant IgG proteins to soluble gE-gI indicate that histidine 435 at the CH2-CH3 domain interface of IgG is a critical residue for IgG binding to gE-gI. We observe many similarities between the characteristics of IgG binding by gE-gI and by rheumatoid factors and bacterial Fc receptors such as Staphylococcus aureus protein A. These observations support a model for the origin of some rheumatoid factors, in which they represent anti-idiotypic antibodies directed against antibodies to bacterial and viral Fc receptors

Severe Anaphylaxis to Volplex, a Colloid Solution during Cesarean Section: A Case Report and Review

    Get PDF
Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening event that can occur anytime during pregnancy. It has been reported following administration of various substances with adverse maternal and neonatal consequences. It should be considered in the differential diagnosis of intrapartum collapse. We encountered a case of severe anaphylactic reaction following a routine cesarean section. It is very important that all members of the perinatal team are aware of early recognition and management of anaphylactic reaction. We think that it is important to highlight this as a further case report of severe anaphylactic reaction to a colloid solution and discuss the pathophysiology and management

Effects of receptor dimerization on the interaction between the class I major histocompatibility complex-related Fc receptor and IgG

The neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) transports maternal IgG from ingested milk in the gut to the bloodstream of newborn mammals. An FcRn dimer was observed in crystals of the receptor alone and of an FcRn-Fc complex, but its biological relevance was unknown. Here we use surface plasmon resonance-based biosensor assays to assess the role of FcRn dimerization in IgG binding. We find high-affinity IgG binding when FcRn is immobilized on a biosensor chip in an orientation facilitating dimerization but not when its orientation disrupts dimerization. This result supports a model in which IgG-induced dimerization of FcRn is relevant for signaling the cell to initiate endocytosis of the IgG-FcRn complex
