    Spin filtering implemented through Rashba and weak magnetic modulations

    We present two theoretical schemes for spin filters in one-dimensional semiconductor quantum wires with spatially modulated Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) as well as weak magnetic potential. For case I, the SOC is periodic and the weak magnetic potential is applied uniformly along the wire. Full spin polarizations with opposite signs are obtained within two separated energy intervals. For case II, the weak magnetic potential is periodic while the SOC is uniform. An ideal negative/positive switching effect for spin polarization is realized by tuning the strength of SOC. The roles of SOC, magnetic potential, and their coupling on the spin filtering are analyzed.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Broadband RCS Reduction of Microstrip Patch Antenna Using Bandstop Frequency Selective Surface

    In this article, a simple and effective approach is presented to reduce the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of microstrip patch antenna in ultra broad frequency band. This approach substitutes a metallic ground plane of a conventional patch antenna with a hybrid ground consisting of bandstop Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) cells with partial metallic plane. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach, the influence of different ground planes on antenna’s performance is investigated. Thus, a patch antenna with miniaturized FSS cells is proposed. The results suggest that this antenna shows 3dB RCS reduction almost in the whole out-of operating band within 1-20GHz for wide incident angles when compared to conventional antenna, while its radiation characteristics are sustained simultaneously. The reasonable agreement between the measured and the simulated results verifies the efficiency of the proposed approach. Moreover, this approach doesn’t alter the lightweight, low-profile, easy conformal and easy manufacturing nature of the original antenna and can be extended to obtain low-RCS antennas with metallic planes in broadband that are quite suitable for the applications which are sensitive to the variation of frequencies

    Conduction mechanisms of epitaxial EuTiO3 thin films

    To investigate leakage current density versus electric field characteristics, epitaxial EuTiO3 thin films were deposited on (001) SrTiO3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition and were post-annealed in a reducing atmosphere. This investigation found that conduction mechanisms are strongly related to temperature and voltage polarity. It was determined that from 50 to 150 K the dominant conduction mechanism was a space-charge-limited current under both negative and positive biases. From 200 to 300 K, the conduction mechanism shows Schottky emission and Fowler-Nordheim tunneling behaviors for the negative and positive biases, respectively.     Preshearing Effect on Effective Stress Paths

    This paper presents a brief summary of the triaxial single and multi-level loading test technique to model the soils experiencing wind and/or wave kinds of load. Some important findings regarding the shear strength and pore pressure phenomenon in the repeated triaxial experiments are given. The method describing the stress path under single- and multi-level repeated stresses is established in detail. Based on a large number of the test results, some typical stress paths are presented m the effective deviation and normal stress space. The stress paths under single repeated stress at different effective ambient pressures have the same pattern and can be normalized by effective ambient pressure. The pore pressure will increase with the number of repeated stresses and residual deformation accumulated. The stress paths under multi-level repeated stress indicate that the preshearing and consolidation have great effect on the response of effective stress path and make the soil behave as apparently over-consolidated soils. Furthermore, the stress paths reveal that the positive preshearing effect may inhabit the buildup of pore pressure in the soil specimen tested
