ECMs and Institutional Repositories. The Case for a Unified Enterprise Approach to Content Management
Universities are currently developing responses to manage the explosion of research
content. There is an expectation by these institutions as well as governments, funding
agencies and other stakeholders that research data will be well managed, available and
accessible to users as appropriate.
The large enterprise content management (ECM) platform vendors are evolving into
“information management frameworks”. The ECM solutions being marketed by these
vendors are underpinned by content repositories, promising to manage all of the
enterprise’s digital assets. One might logically question whether a university actually needs
separate institutional repositories (IR) systems and infrastructure such as DSpace, for
example, to manage research data. If these new enterprise solutions overcome the historical
shortcomings traditionally associated with research content, then what is the future of the
IR? The implementation of SharePoint along with new research data services at Griffith
University has been a catalyst for beginning to question some of the fundamental paradigms
which have underpinned the current thinking about an enterprise approach to research
infrastructure and the role of research repositories.
Having conducted a literature review, the authors outline the roles of enterprise content
management systems and institutional repositories in the context of strategies, processes,
and technologies rather than as single products. The focus is on architecture and a
management approach rather than technological solutions.
This paper explores the synergies between institutional repositories and enterprise content
management systems and how research content would fit within the traditional enterprise
content management system model. It concludes that there are major benefits in taking a
unified enterprise approach to managing research content within a university
Spectral statistics of disordered metals in the presence of several Aharonov-Bohm fluxes
The form factor for spectral correlations in a diffusive metal is calculated
in the presence of several Aharonov-Bohm fluxes. When the fluxes are
equal, the correlations are universal functions of where is
the dimensionless conductance and is the number of applied fluxes. This
explains recent flux dependence of the correlations found numerically at the

Reification and Truthmaking Patterns
Reification is a standard technique in conceptual modeling, which consists of including in the domain of discourse entities that may otherwise be hidden or implicit. However, deciding what should be rei- fied is not always easy. Recent work on formal ontology offers us a simple answer: put in the domain of discourse those entities that are responsible for the (alleged) truth of our propositions. These are called truthmakers. Re-visiting previous work, we propose in this paper a systematic analysis of truthmaking patterns for properties and relations based on the ontolog- ical nature of their truthmakers. Truthmaking patterns will be presented as generalization of reification patterns, accounting for the fact that, in some cases, we do not reify a property or a relationship directly, but we rather reify its truthmakers
Quantum dot admittance probed at microwave frequencies with an on-chip resonator
We present microwave frequency measurements of the dynamic admittance of a
quantum dot tunnel coupled to a two-dimensional electron gas. The measurements
are made via a high-quality 6.75 GHz on-chip resonator capacitively coupled to
the dot. The resonator frequency is found to shift both down and up close to
conductance resonance of the dot corresponding to a change of sign of the
reactance of the system from capacitive to inductive. The observations are
consistent with a scattering matrix model. The sign of the reactance depends on
the detuning of the dot from conductance resonance and on the magnitude of the
tunnel rate to the lead with respect to the resonator frequency. Inductive
response is observed on a conductance resonance, when tunnel coupling and
temperature are sufficiently small compared to the resonator frequency.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
High Efficiency Traveling-Wave Tube Power Amplifier for Ka-Band Software Defined Radio on International Space Station-A Platform for Communications Technology Development
The design, fabrication and RF performance of the output traveling-wave tube amplifier (TWTA) for a space based Ka-band software defined radio (SDR) is presented. The TWTA, the SDR and the supporting avionics are integrated to forms a testbed, which is currently located on an exterior truss of the International Space Station (ISS). The SDR in the testbed communicates at Ka-band frequencies through a high-gain antenna directed to NASA s Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS), which communicates to the ground station located at White Sands Complex. The application of the testbed is for demonstrating new waveforms and software designed to enhance data delivery from scientific spacecraft and, the waveforms and software can be upgraded and reconfigured from the ground. The construction and the salient features of the Ka-band SDR are discussed. The testbed is currently undergoing on-orbit checkout and commissioning and is expected to operate for 3 to 5 years in space
Diversity, Dilemmas and Transformation in Post-Compulsory Education: an Introduction to the Special Issue on Work Based Research
As governments recognize the central place of post-compulsory education in regenerating and modernizing the economic and social fabric of society (BIS 2008), it is appropriate for us as educational researchers to question whether this recognition beckons a different role for research in post-compulsory education. Much of this research is work based, using a broad interpretation of this term, and the majority of articles received by this journal (though the proportion published is a lower one) reflect this balance. Work based research in education poses particular challenges for the researcher and the practitioner, whether the focus is practitioner research, in which case the dilemmas can centre on potential role conflict between practitioner and researcher roles, or whether the work based research is observational – analyzing others’ professional practice, in which case the dilemmas can centre on power relations between researcher and researched, the politics of research, and ethical questions around care for participants and the degree of their involvement or non-involvement in the total research enterprise. This article reviews the prospects for work based research in post-compulsory education and introduces the articles in this special issue
Green Function of the Sutherland Model with SU(2) internal symmetry
We obtain the hole propagator of the Sutherland model with SU(2) internal
symmetry for coupling parameter , which is the simplest nontrivial
case. One created hole with spin down breaks into two quasiholes with spin down
and one quasihole with spin up. While these elementary excitations are
energetically free, the form factor reflects their anyonic character. The

Relationships and events: towards a general theory of reification and truthmaking.
We propose a novel ontological analysis of relations and relationships based on a re-visitation of a classic problem in the practice of knowledge repre- sentation and conceptual modeling, namely relationship reification. Our idea is that a relation holds in virtue of a relationship's existence. Relationships are therefore truthmakers of relations. In this paper we present a general theory or reification and truthmaking, and discuss the interplay between events and rela- tionships, suggesting that relationships are the focus of events, which emerge from the context (the scene) they occur in
Quasi-discrete microwave solitons in a split ring resonator-based left-handed coplanar waveguide
We study the propagation of quasi-discrete microwave solitons in a nonlinear
left-handed coplanar waveguide coupled with split ring resonators. By
considering the relevant transmission line analogue, we derive a nonlinear
lattice model which is studied analytically by means of a quasi-discrete
approximation. We derive a nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger equation, and find that
the system supports bright envelope soliton solutions in a relatively wide
subinterval of the left-handed frequency band. We perform systematic numerical
simulations, in the framework of the nonlinear lattice model, to study the
propagation properties of the quasi-discrete microwave solitons. Our numerical
findings are in good agreement with the analytical predictions, and suggest
that the predicted structures are quite robust and may be observed in
experiments
