Vanishing Acts: Creative Women in Spain and the United States
This exploratory cross-cultural study examines the experiences of women in advertising creative departments in Spain and the United States. The study, an exploration of the creative environment and its impact on female creatives, is framed by Hofstede’s dimensional model of national culture (Hofstede 2001; de Mooij & Hofstede 2010) and signalling theory (Spence 1974). Interviews with 35 top female creatives suggest that the challenges women face are rooted in the ‘fraternity culture’ or ‘territorio de chicos’ of creative departments in both countries. The data further suggest that the gender-bound cultural environment of advertising creative departments may be a global phenomenon, one that may adversely affect the creative process and impact women’s upward mobility
Chiral Dynamics of scalar mesons: radiative decay and in the medium through nuclear photoproduction
In order to assess the relevance of chiral dynamics in the scalar sector we
address two recent problems: radiative decay of the , for which there are
quite recent data from Frascati, and the modification of the
properties in the nuclear medium seen through the photoproduction
in nuclei.Comment: Talk given at the High Energy Physics Workshop "Scalar Mesons: an

Radiative vector meson decay
We study the radiative , and decay into and taking into account mechanisms in which there
are two sequential vector-vector-pseudoscalar or
axial-vector--vector--pseudoscalar steps followed by the coupling of a vector
meson to the photon, considering the final state interaction of the two mesons.
Other mechanisms in which two kaons are produced through the same sequential
mechanisms or from vector meson decay into two kaons which undergo final state
interaction leading to the final pair of pions or , are also
considered. The results of the parameter free theory, together with the
theoretical uncertainties, are compared with the latest experimental results at
Frascati and Novosibirsk.Comment: Prepared for the 10th International Symposium on Meson-Nucleon

IGR J19294+1816: a new Be-X ray binary revealed through infrared spectroscopy
The aim of this work is to characterize the counterpart to the INTEGRAL High
Mass X-ray Binary candidate IGR J19294+1816 so as to establish its true nature.
We obtained H band spectra of the selected counterpart acquired with the NICS
instrument mounted on the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG) 3.5-m telescope
which represents the first infrared spectrum ever taken of this source. We
complement the spectral analysis with infrared photometry from UKIDSS, 2MASS,
WISE and NEOWISE databases. We classify the mass donor as a Be star.
Subsequently, we compute its distance by properly taking into account the
contamination produced by the circumstellar envelope. The findings indicate
that IGR J19294+1816 is a transient source with a B1Ve donor at a distance of
kpc, and luminosities of the order of erg s,
displaying the typical behaviour of a Be X-ray binary.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, accepted to be published in MNRA
Human behavior in Prisoner's Dilemma experiments suppresses network reciprocity
During the last few years, much research has been devoted to strategic
interactions on complex networks. In this context, the Prisoner's Dilemma has
become a paradigmatic model, and it has been established that imitative
evolutionary dynamics lead to very different outcomes depending on the details
of the network. We here report that when one takes into account the real
behavior of people observed in the experiments, both at the mean-field level
and on utterly different networks the observed level of cooperation is the
same. We thus show that when human subjects interact in an heterogeneous mix
including cooperators, defectors and moody conditional cooperators, the
structure of the population does not promote or inhibit cooperation with
respect to a well mixed population.Comment: 5 Pages including 4 figures. Submitted for publicatio
