Gerenciamento da rotina de comunicação por meio de projetos: uma experiência na Embrapa.

    Get PDF

Testing the performance of rival warehousing policies through discrete event simulation

    Get PDF
This research tested the performance of alternative warehouse designs concerning the picking process. The chosen performance measures were Travel Distance and Total Fulfilment Time. An explanatory case study was built up around a model implemented with SIMUL8. Hypotheses were set by selecting outcomes from the literature survey matching popular empirical findings. 17.4% reductions were found for Total Fulfilment Time and Resource Utilisation. The latter was then used as a proxy for operational efficiency. Literal replication of theoretical data-patterns was considered as an internal validity sign. Assessing the estimated changes benefits ahead of implementation was found to be a contribution to practice.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Step Length and Individual Anaerobic Threshold Assessment in Swimming

    Get PDF
Anaerobic threshold is widely used for diagnosis of swimming aerobic endurance but the precise incremental protocols step duration for its assessment is controversial. A physiological and biomechanical comparison between intermittent incremental protocols with different step lengths and a maximal lactate steady state (MLSS) test was conducted. 17 swimmers performed 7×200, 300 and 400 m (30 s and 24 h rest between steps and protocols) in front crawl until exhaustion and an MLSS test. The blood lactate concentration values ([La-]) at individual anaerobic threshold were 2.1±0.1, 2.2±0.2 and 1.8±0.1 mmol.l - 1 in the 200, 300 and 400 m protocols (with significant differences between 300 and 400 m tests), and 2.9±1.2 mmol.l - 1 at MLSS (higher than the incremental protocols); all these values are much lower than the traditional 4 mmol.l - 1 value. The velocities at individual anaerobic threshold obtained in incremental protocols were similar (and highly related) to the MLSS, being considerably lower than the velocity at 4 mmol.l - 1. Stroke rate increased and stroke length decreased throughout the different incremental protocols. It was concluded that it is valid to use intermittent incremental protocols of 200 and 300 m lengths to assess the swimming velocity corresponding to individual anaerobic threshold, the progressive protocols tend to underestimate the [La-] at anaerobic threshold assessed by the MLSS test, and swimmers increase velocity through stroke rate increases.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The Stellar Content of Obscured Galactic Giant HII Regions V: G333.1--0.4

We present high angular resolution near--infrared images of the obscured Galactic Giant HII (GHII) region G333.1--0.4 in which we detect an OB star cluster. For G333.1--0.4, we find OB stars and other massive objects in very early evolutionary stages, possibly still accreting. We obtained KK--band spectra of three stars; two show O type photospheric features, while the third has no photospheric features but does show CO 2.3 μ\mum band--head emission. This object is at least as hot as an early B type star based on its intrinsic luminosity and is surrounded by a circumstellar disc/envelope which produces near infrared excess emission. A number of other relatively bright cluster members also display excess emission in the KK--band, indicative of disks/envelopes around young massive stars. Based upon the O star photometry and spectroscopy, the distance to the cluster is 2.6 ±\pm 0.4 kpc, similar to a recently derived kinematic (near side) value. The slope of the KK--band luminosity function is similar to those found in other young clusters. The mass function slope is more uncertain, and we find 1.3±0.2<Γ<1.1±0.2-1.3 \pm 0.2 < \Gamma < -1.1 \pm 0.2- for stars with M >5> 5 M_\odot where the upper an lower limits are calculated independently for different assumptions regarding the excess emission of the individual massive stars. The number of Lyman continuum photons derived from the contribution of all massive stars in the cluster is 0.2 ×\times 105010^{50} s1s^{-1} <NLyc<1.9< NLyc < 1.9 ×\times 105010^{50} s1s^{-1}. The integrated cluster mass is 1.0 ×\times 10310^{3} M<Mcluster<1.3M_\odot < M_{cluster} < 1.3 ×\times 10310^{3} MM_\odot.Comment: 31 pages, including 12 figures and 3 tables. Global Study: Participation in One Health Networks and Involvement in COVID-19 Response Activities

    Get PDF
PURPOSE: This global study examined whether being part of a One Health Network (OHN) was associated with being involved in COVID-19 response activities at the early stages of the pandemic. Barriers to workforce involvement in the pandemic response and the perceived value of OHN activities were studied to inform future targeted evidence-based strategies for workforce capacity-building. METHODS & MATERIALS: We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study, using an online questionnaire that was globally distributed in July-August 2020. With a snowball sampling approach via OHN listservs, social media, and further sharing, we aimed to reach individuals in the global health workforce across locations, organizations, and sectors to survey their participation in OHN activities and involvement in COVID-19 response. RESULTS: The sample included 1050 respondents from various types of organizations and work sectors, from 94 countries across all WHO regions. Being part of an OHN was positively associated with involvement in the COVID-19 response (odds ratio: 1.8, 95% confidence interval: 1.3 - 2.4). The OHN activities most indicated as useful during COVID-19 pandemic by the survey respondents included 'increased public awareness of One Health' and 'networking with professionals across sectors with common interests'. Overall, 44% of survey respondents who were part of an OHN found OHN activities very or extremely helpful to their COVID-19 response. Lack of opportunities was a commonly reported barrier to involvement in COVID-19 response globally, and lack of funding was a barrier particularly in the WHO Africa region. CONCLUSION: This study provides a snapshot of the multisectoral response to COVID-19 and an assessment of the contribution of OHNs. The lessons learned during this pandemic can be used to identify measures to improve global health capacity, including OHN activities to build and strengthen workforce response to future global health challenges

Measuring performance in agri‐food supply chains: A case study of a Portuguese company

    Get PDF
Organizations seek to create value, increase competitiveness, reduce costs, share information and strengthen relationships between the various actors in the chain. In this sense, it is of the utmost importance that tools be developed which define objectives, monitor processes and document the performance of the supply chains. The Performance Measurement Systems (PMS) have come about to aid decision support, bringing together relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPis) which are fundamental for decision makers when deciding the best strategies for increasing supply chain competitiveness. In this study a PMS was developed collating a range of KPIs that seek to help in the continuous improvement of the agri-food supply chain. A case study allowed a PMS model to be designed incorporating the experiences of professionals in the area and subsequent tests to be made of its applicability, its outputs and its usefulness for decision support in a Portuguese plant.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
