The Pioneer anomaly: the measure of a topological phase defect of light in cosmology
It is shown that a wave vector representing a light pulse in an adiabatically
evolving expanding space should develop, after a round trip (back and forth to
the emitter) a geometric phase for helicity states at a given fixed position
coordinate of this expanding space.In a section of the Hopf fibration of the
Poincare sphere that identifies a projection to the physically allowed states,
the evolution defines a parallel transported state that can be joined
continuously with the initial state by means of the associated
Berry-Pancharatnam connection. The connection allows to compute an anomaly in
the frequency for the vector modes in terms of the scale factor of the

Electron Confinement Induced by Diluted Hydrogen-like Ad-atoms in Graphene Ribbons
We report the electronic properties of two-dimensional systems made of
graphene nanoribbons which are patterned with ad-atoms in two separated
regions. Due to the extra electronic confinement induced by the presence of the
impurities, we find resonant levels, quasi-bound and impurity-induced localized
states, which determine the transport properties of the system. Regardless of
the ad-atom distribution in the system, we apply band-folding procedures to
simple models and predict the energies and the spatial distribution of those
impurity-induced states. We take into account two different scenarios: gapped
graphene and the presence of randomly distributed ad-atoms in a low dilution
regime. In both cases the defect-induced resonances are still detected. Our
findings would encourage experimentalist to synthesize these systems and
characterize their quasi-localized states employing, for instance, scanning
tunneling spectroscopy (STS). Additionally, the resonant transport features

Vacuum decay via Lorentzian wormholes
We speculate about the spacetime description due to the presence of
Lorentzian wormholes (handles in spacetime joining two distant regions or other
universes) in quantum gravity. The semiclassical rate of production of these
Lorentzian wormholes in Reissner-Nordstr\"om spacetimes is calculated as a
result of the spontaneous decay of vacuum due to a real tunneling
configuration. In the magnetic case it only depends on the field theoretical
fine structure constant. We predict that the quantum probability corresponding
to the nucleation of such geodesically complete spacetimes should be actually
negligible in our physical Universe
