Is There a Significant Excess in Bottom Hadroproduction at the Tevatron?
We discuss the excess in the hadroproduction of B mesons at the Tevatron. We
show that an accurate use of up-to-date information on the B fragmentation
function reduces the observed excess to an acceptable level. Possible
implications for experimental results reporting bottom quark cross sections,
also showing an excess with respect to next-to-leading order theoretical
predictions, are discussed.Comment: 5 pages, Latex, 4 figures. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Hadron multiplicity induced by top quark decays at the LHC
The average charged hadron multiplicities induced by top quark decays are
calculated in pQCD at LHC energies. Different modes of top production are
considered. Proposed measurements can be used as an additional test of pQCD
calculations independent on a fragmentation model.Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, to be published elsewher
D^* production from e^+e^- to ep collisions in NLO QCD
Fragmentation functions for D mesons, based on the convolution of a
perturbative part, related to the heavy quark perturbative showering, and a
non-perturbative model for its hadronization into the meson, are used to
describe D^* production in e^+e^- and ep collisions. The non-perturbative part
is determined by fitting the e^+e^- data taken by ARGUS and OPAL at 10.6 and
91.2 GeV respectively. When fitting with a non perturbative Peterson
fragmentation function and using next-to-leading evolution for the perturbative
part, we find an epsilon parameter sensibly different from the one commonly
used, which is instead found with a leading order fit. The use of this new
value is shown to increase considerably the cross section for D^* production at
HERA, suggesting a possible reconciliation between the next-to-leading order
theoretical predictions and the experimental data.Comment: 20 pages, LaTeX2e, 8 Postscript figure
Inclusive J/psi and psi(2S) Production from B Decay in p p-bar Collisions
Using information on B-meson fragmentation functions from CERN LEP 1 and
adopting the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formalism proposed by Bodwin,
Braaten, and Lepage, we predict the transverse-momentum distribution of J/psi
mesons originating from the inclusive decays of b hadrons produced in p p-bar
collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron. We determine the relevant colour-octet
charmonium matrix elements from fits to CDF data on prompt charmonium
hadroproduction and to CLEO data on charmonium production from B-meson decay.
Our predictions are found to agree well with recent CDF and D0 data.Comment: 27 pages (Latex), 9 figures (Postscript
Study of the Linked Dipole Chain Model in heavy quark production at the Tevatron
We present calculations of charm and beauty production at Tevatron within the
framework of kT-factorization, using the unintegrated gluon distributions as
obtained from the Linked Dipole Chain model. The analysis covers transverse
momentum and rapidity distributions and the azimuthal correlations between b
and bbar quarks (or rather muons from their decay) which are powerful tests for
the different unintegrated gluon distributions. We compare the theoretical
results with recent experimental data taken by D0 and CDF collaborations at the
Tevatron Run I and II.Comment: 16 page
Hadron multiplicity in e+e- events induced by top quark pairs at the ILC energy
The average charged hadron multiplicity in the events with the
primary -pair at the collision energy 500 GeV, as well as the average
multiplicity of charged hadrons from the top quark are calculated in QCD to be
and , respectively.Comment: 24 pages, 12 figures, journal version, to be published in PMC Physics
Charm quark and D^* cross sections in deeply inelastic scattering at DESY HERA
A next-to-leading order Monte Carlo program for the calculation of heavy
quark cross sections in deeply inelastic scattering is described. Concentrating
on charm quark and D^*(2010) production at HERA, several distributions are
presented and their variation with respect to charm quark mass, parton
distribution set, and renormalization-factorization scale is studied.Comment: 15 pages including 8 figures. Uses Latex, Revtex, and psfig.

Inclusive B-Meson Production in e^+ e^- and p p-bar Collisions
We provide nonperturbative fragmentation functions for B mesons, both at
leading and next-to-leading order in the MS-bar factorization scheme with five
massless quark flavors. They are determined by fitting the fractional energy
distribution of B mesons inclusively produced in e^+ e^- annihilation at CERN
LEP1. Theoretical predictions for the inclusive production of B mesons with
high transverse momenta in p p-bar scattering obtained with these fragmentation
functions nicely agree, both in shape and normalization, with data recently
taken at the Fermilab Tevatron.Comment: 20 pages (Latex), 6 figures (Postscript
