    Variaciones temporales de la humedad atmosférica en altura sobre México

    Ponencia presentada en: XII Congreso de la Asociación Española de Climatología celebrado en Santiago de Compostela entre el 19 y el 21 de octubre de 2022.[ES]Se comparan las tendencias de la humedad atmosférica en altura en México en tres estaciones de radiosondeo (costa, continente en altura y desierto), con el fin de detectar cambios en el contenido de vapor de agua en la atmósfera entre 1981 y 2016. Se analizaron datos diarios de razón de mezcla, temperatura del aire y agua precipitable de radiosondeos a las 12Z. La razón de mezcla y la temperatura mostraron tendencias positivas en tres niveles (500, 300 y 200 hPa) en el sitio continental y en el de costa; para la zona desértica en la tropósfera media la tendencia de temperatura se encontró positiva y en la razón de mezcla no se presentaron tendencias; en la tropósfera alta la tendencia de razón de mezcla es negativa, pero la de temperatura fue positiva. Para el agua precipitable las tendencias observadas en el desierto son mayormente negativas, a excepción del verano; las tendencias de menor magnitud se presentaron en la zona continental, y las positivas con valores más altos en la costa. La influencia del ENSO en el comportamiento del vapor de agua no fue determinante; no obstante se observó que en el sitio continental y el desierto se registraron valores más altos durante El Niño, mientras que en el sitio de costa fueron mayores durante La Niña.[EN]Trends and variations of the atmospheric humidity in height in Mexico at three radiosonde stations (coast, continental and desert) are compared, in order to detect changes in the water vapor content in the atmosphere between 1981-2016. Mixing ratio, air temperature and precipitable water 12Z daily radiosonde data were analyzed. Mixing ratio and temperature show positive trends at 500, 300 y 200 hPa in the continental site and the coastal; for desert zone in the middle troposphere temperature trend was positive and null for mixing ratio; in hight troposphere mixing ratio trend was negative but temperature trend was positive. For precipitable water, trends observed in the desert are mostly negative, with the exception of summer; lower trends was present in continental zone; and positive highs in the coast. ENSO influence was not determinant; nevertheless greater values during El Niño in continental and desert zones were observed, otherwise, during La Niña phase greater values were found in the coast

    A mutation in THREONINE SYNTHASE 1 uncouples proliferation and transition domains of the root apical meristem: experimental evidence and in silico proposed mechanism

    A continuum from stem to transit-amplifying to a differentiated cell state is a common theme in multicellular organisms. In the plant root apical meristem (RAM), transit-amplifying cells are organized into two domains: cells from the proliferation domain (PD) are displaced to the transition domain (TD), suggesting that both domains are necessarily coupled. Here, we show that in the Arabidopsis thaliana mto2-2 mutant, in which threonine (Thr) synthesis is affected, the RAM lacks the PD. Through a combination of cell length profile analysis, mathematical modeling and molecular markers, we establish that the PD and TD can be uncoupled. Remarkably, although the RAM of mto2-2 is represented solely by the TD, the known factors of RAM maintenance and auxin signaling are expressed in the mutant. Mathematical modeling predicts that the stem cell niche depends on Thr metabolism and that, when disturbed, the normal continuum of cell states becomes aborted

    A multi-country study of intussusception in children under 2 years of age in Latin America: analysis of prospective surveillance data

    BACKGROUND: Intussusception (IS) is a form of acute intestinal obstruction that occurs mainly in infants and is usually of unknown cause. An association between IS and the first licensed rotavirus vaccine, a reassortant-tetravalent, rhesus-based rotavirus vaccine (RRV-TV), led to the withdrawal of the vaccine. New rotavirus vaccines have now been developed and extensively studied for their potential association with IS. This study aimed to describe the epidemiology and to estimate the incidence of IS in Latin American infants prior to new vaccine introduction. METHODS: Children under 2 years of age representing potential IS cases were enrolled in 16 centers in 11 Latin American countries from January 2003 to May 2005. IS cases were classified as definite, probable, possible or suspected as stated on the Brighton Collaboration Working Group guidelines. RESULTS: From 517 potential cases identified, 476 (92%) cases were classified as definite, 21 probable, 10 possible and 10 suspected for intussusception. Among the 476 definite IS cases, the median age at presentation was 6.4 months with 89% of cases aged <1 year. The male to female ratio was 1.5:1. The incidence of definite IS per 100,000 subject-years ranged from 1.9 in Brazil to 62.4 in Argentina for children <2 years of age, and from 3.8 in Brazil to 105.3 in Argentina for children aged <1 year. Median hospital stay was 4 days with a high prevalence of surgery as the primary treatment (65%). Most cases (88%) made a complete recovery, but 13 (3%) died. No clear seasonal pattern of IS cases emerged. CONCLUSIONS: This study describes the epidemiology and estimates the incidence of IS in Latin American infants prior to the introduction of new rotavirus vaccines.     Effect of the Lys62Ala Mutation on the Thermal Stability of <i>Bst</i>HPr Protein by Molecular Dynamics

    We analyzed the thermal stability of the BstHPr protein through the site-directed point mutation Lys62 replaced by Ala residue using molecular dynamics simulations at five different temperatures: 298, 333, 362, 400, and 450 K, for periods of 1 μs and in triplicate. The results from the mutant thermophilic BstHPrm protein were compared with those of the wild-type thermophilic BstHPr protein and the mesophilic BsHPr protein. Structural and molecular interaction analyses show that proteins lose stability as temperature increases. Mutant and wild-type proteins behave similarly up to 362 K. However, at 400 K the mutant protein shows greater structural instability, losing more buried hydrogen bonds and exposing more of its non-polar residues to the solvent. Therefore, in this study, we confirmed that the salt bridge network of the Glu3–Lys62–Glu36 triad, made up of the Glu3–Lys62 and Glu36–Lys62 ion pairs, provides thermal stability to the thermophilic BstHPr protein

    Docosahexaenoic Acid Pretreatment Confers Protection and Functional Improvements after Acute Spinal Cord Injury in Adult Rats

    Currently, few interventions have been shown to successfully limit the progression of secondary damage events associated with the acute phase of spinal cord injury (SCI). Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, C22:6 n-3) is neuroprotective when administered following SCI, but its potential as a pretreatment modality has not been addressed. This study used a novel DHA pretreatment experimental paradigm that targets acute cellular and molecular events during the first week after SCI in rats. We found that DHA pretreatment reduced functional deficits during the acute phase of injury, as shown by significant improvements in Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan (BBB) locomotor scores, and the detection of transcranial magnetic motor evoked potentials (tcMMEPs) compared to vehicle-pretreated animals. We demonstrated that, at 7 days post-injury, DHA pretreatment significantly increased the percentage of white matter sparing, and resulted in axonal preservation, compared to the vehicle injections. We found a significant increase in the survival of NG2+, APC+, and NeuN+ cells in the ventrolateral funiculus (VLF), dorsal corticospinal tract (dCST), and ventral horns, respectively. Interestingly, these DHA protective effects were observed despite the lack of inhibition of inflammatory markers for monocytes/macrophages and astrocytes, ED1/OX42 and GFAP, respectively. DHA pretreatment induced levels of Akt and cyclic AMP responsive element binding protein (CREB) mRNA and protein. This study shows for the first time that DHA pretreatment ameliorates functional deficits, and increases tissue sparing and precursor cell survival. Further, our data suggest that DHA-mediated activation of pro-survival/anti-apoptotic pathways may be independent of its anti-inflammatory effects

    An EEG Dataset of Subject Pairs during Collaboration and Competition Tasks in Face-to-Face and Online Modalities

    This dataset was acquired during collaboration and competition tasks performed by sixteen subject pairs (N = 32) of one female and one male under different (face-to-face and online) modalities. The collaborative task corresponds to cooperating to put together a 100-piece puzzle, while the competition task refers to playing against each other in a one-on-one classic 28-piece dominoes game. In the face-to-face modality, all interactions between the pair occurred in person. On the other hand, in the online modality, participants were physically separated, and interaction was only allowed through Zoom software with an active microphone and camera. Electroencephalography data of the two subjects were acquired simultaneously while performing the tasks. This article describes the experimental setup, the process of the data streams acquired during the tasks, and the assessment of data quality
