Dam Rain and Cumulative Gain

Get PDF
We consider a financial contract that delivers a single cash flow given by the terminal value of a cumulative gains process. The problem of modelling and pricing such an asset and associated derivatives is important, for example, in the determination of optimal insurance claims reserve policies, and in the pricing of reinsurance contracts. In the insurance setting, the aggregate claims play the role of the cumulative gains, and the terminal cash flow represents the totality of the claims payable for the given accounting period. A similar example arises when we consider the accumulation of losses in a credit portfolio, and value a contract that pays an amount equal to the totality of the losses over a given time interval. An explicit expression for the value process is obtained. The price of an Arrow-Debreu security on the cumulative gains process is determined, and is used to obtain a closed-form expression for the price of a European-style option on the value of the asset. The results obtained make use of various remarkable properties of the gamma bridge process, and are applicable to a wide variety of financial products based on cumulative gains processes such as aggregate claims, credit portfolio losses, defined-benefit pension schemes, emissions, and rainfall.Comment: 25 Pages, 1 Figur

A Review of Hearing Loss in Cleft Palate Patients

Get PDF
Background. Cleft palate is associated with recurrent otitis media with effusion and hearing loss. This study analysed the way these patients' hearing is managed in Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Method. A retrospective audit was carried out on cleft palate patients in Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Audiology assessment and treatment options were reviewed. Comparisons were made between the use of ventilation tubes (VTs) and hearing aids (HAs). The types of cleft, types of hearing loss, and the management output of the audiology regions were also reviewed. Results. The audiology assessments of 254 patients were examined. The incidence of VT insertion in this group of patients was 18.9%. The hearing aid incidence rate was 10.1%. The VT-related complication rate was 25.5% and the HA related complication rate was 9.1%. Conclusion. The data demonstrates that both treatments are viable, and a new protocol which combines the short term benefit of VT insertion with the lower complication rate of HA is required

AN ALGORITHM FOR SOLVING INTUITIONISTIC FUZZY LINEAR BOTTLENECK ASSIGNMENT PROBLEMS

Get PDF
The linear bottleneck assignment problem (LBAP), which is a variation of the classical assignment problem, seeks to minimize the longest completion time rather than the sum of the completion times when a number of jobs are to be assigned to the same number of workers. If the completion times are not certain, then it is said to be a fuzzy LBAP. Here we propose a new algorithm to solve fuzzy LBAP with completion times as intuitionistic fuzzy numbers

Use of Peptide Libraries for Identification and Optimization of Novel Antimicrobial Peptides.

The increasing rates of resistance among bacteria and to a lesser extent fungi have resulted in an urgent need to find new molecules that hold therapeutic promise against multidrug-resistant strains. Antimicrobial peptides have proven very effective against a variety of multidrug-resistant bacteria. Additionally, the low levels of resistance reported towards these molecules are an attractive feature for antimicrobial drug development. Here we summarise information on diverse peptide libraries used to discover or to optimize antimicrobial peptides. Chemical synthesized peptide libraries, for example split and mix method, tea bag method, multi-pin method and cellulose spot method are discussed. In addition biological peptide library screening methods are summarized, like phage display, bacterial display, mRNA-display and ribosomal display. A few examples are given for small peptide libraries, which almost exclusively follow a rational design of peptides of interest rather than a combinatorial approach

Stable branches of a solution for a fermion on domain wall

We discuss the case when a fermion occupies an excited non-zero frequency level in the field of domain wall. We demonstrate that a solution exists for the coupling constant in the limited interval 1<g<gmax1.651<g<g_{max}\approx 1.65. We show that indeed there are different branches of stable solution for gg in this interval. The first one corresponds to a fermion located on the domain wall (1<g<2π41<g<\sqrt[4]{2\pi}). The second branch, which belongs to the interval 2π4ggmax\sqrt[4]{2\pi}\le g\le g_{max}, describes a polarized fermion off the domain wall. The third branch with 1<g<gmax1<g<g_{max} describes an excited antifermion in the field of the domain wall.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, references adde

The purpose of this research was to examine the influence of Quantum Teaching models by practicum methods toward multi representation skill in physhics student at senior high school. This type of research is the study of experimental, the determination of polpulation using purposive sampling area methods. This research was carried out in Senior High School Darul Hikmah Jember. The respondents determined after research carried out a test of its homogeneity. Design research using the control-group post test only design. Data from this research there are two types, the primary data and supporting data. The primary data obtained from tests, and supporting data obtained from observation, documentationand interview. The primary data processing using independent sample t-test . The results of T-Test obtained by the value of the sig. 0,000 < 0.05. Ho is rejected and Ha accepted, meaning that there is a significant difference between the results of Quantum Teaching models with practical work methode commonly used by the teacher. Multi representation skill in experiment class better than control class
