Antenna Miniaturization Based on Supperscattering Effect
Antennas are essential components of all existing radio equipments. The miniaturization of antenna is a key issue of antenna technology. Based on supperscattering effect, we found that when a small horn antenna is located inside of a dielectric core and covered with a complementary layer, its far field radiation pattern will be equivalent to a large horn antenna. The complementary layer with only axial parameters varying with radius is obtained using coordinate transformation theory. Besides, the influence of loss and perturbations of parameters on supperscattering effect is also investigated. Results show that the device is robust against the perturbation in the axial material parameters when the refractive index is kept invariant. Full-wave simulations based on finite element method are performed to validate the design
Comparative study of Steel-FRP, FRP and steel reinforced coral concrete beams in their flexural performance
In this paper, a comparative study of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) Bar and Steel-Carbon Fiber Composite Bar (SCFCB) reinforced coral concrete beams are made through a series experimental tests and theoretical analysis. The flexural capacity, crack development and failure modes of CFRP and SCFCB reinforced coral concrete were investigated in detail. They are also compared to ordinary steel reinforced coral concrete beams. The results show that under the same condition of reinforcement ratio, the SCFCB reinforced beam exhibits better performance than those of the CFRP reinforced beams, and its stiffness is slightly lower than that of the steel reinforced beam. Under the same load condition, the crack width of the SCFCB beam is between the steel reinforced beam and the CFRP bar reinforced beam. Before the steel core yields, the crack growth rate of SCFCB beam is similar to the steel reinforced beam. SCFCB has a higher strength utilization rate, about 70% -85% of its ultimate strength. The current design guidance was also examined based on the test results. It was found that the existing design specifications for FRP reinforced normal concrete is not suitable for SCFCB reinforced coral concrete structures
CRLBs for Pilot-Aided Channel Estimation in OFDM System under Gaussian and Non-Gaussian Mixed Noise
The determination of Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) as an optimality criterion for the problem of channel estimation in wireless communication is a very important issue. Several CRLBs on channel estimation have been derived for Gaussian noise. However, a practical channel is affected by not only Gaussian background noise but also non-Gaussian noise such as impulsive interference. This paper derives the deterministic and stochastic CRLBs for Gaussian and non-Gaussian mixed noise. Due to the use of the non-parametric kernel method to build the PDF of non-Gaussian noise, the proposed CRLBs are suitable for practical channel environments with various noise distributions
