Studies on Temperature and Strain Sensitivities of a Few-mode Critical Wavelength Fiber Optic Sensor
This paper studied the relationship between the temperature/strain wavelength sensitivity of a fiber optic in-line Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) sensor and the wavelength separation of the measured wavelength to the critical wavelength (CWL) in a CWL-existed interference spectrum formed by interference between LP01 and LP02 modes. The in-line MZI fiber optic sensor has been constructed by splicing a section of specially designed few-mode fiber (FMF), which support LP01 and LP02 modes propagating in the fiber, between two pieces of single mode fiber. The propagation constant difference, Δβ, between the LP01 and LP02 modes, changes non-monotonously with wavelength and reaches a maximum at the CWL. As a result, in sensor operation, peaks on the different sides of the CWL then shift in opposite directions, and the associated temperature/strain sensitivities increase significantly when the measured wavelength points become close to the CWL, from both sides of the CWL. A theoretical analysis carried out has predicted that with this specified FMF sensor approach, the temperature/strain wavelength sensitivities are governed by the wavelength difference between the measured wavelength and the CWL. This conclusion was seen to agree well with the experimental results obtained. Combining the wavelength shifts of the peaks and the CWL in the transmission spectrum of the SFS structure, this study has shown that this approach forms the basis of effective designs of high sensitivity sensors for multi-parameter detection and offering a large measurement range to satisfy the requirements needed for better industrial measurements
Pion Decay Constant, and Chiral Log from Overlap Fermions
We report our calculation of the pion decay constant , the axial
renormalization constant , and the quenched chiral logarithms from the
overlap fermions. The calculation is done on a quenched lattice at
fm using tree level tadpole improved gauge action. The smallest pion
mass we reach is about 280 MeV. The lattice size is about 4 times the Compton
wavelength of the lowest mass pion.Comment: Lattice2001(Hadronic Matrix Elements), 3pages, 5figure
Positive current noise cross-correlations in capacitively coupled double quantum dots with ferromagnetic leads
We examine cross-correlations (CCs) in the tunneling currents through two
parallel interacting quantum dots coupled to four independent ferromagnetic
electrodes. We find that when either one of the two circuits is in the parallel
configuration with sufficiently strong polarization strength, a new mechanism
of dynamical spin blockade, i.e., a spin-dependent bunching of tunneling
events, governs transport through the system together with the inter-dot
Coulomb interaction, leading to a sign-reversal of the zero-frequency current
CC in the dynamical channel blockade regime, and to enhancement of positive
current CC in the dynamical channel anti-blockade regimes, in contrast to the
corresponding results for the case of paramagnetic leads.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure
Tunable near- to mid-infrared pump terahertz probe spectroscopy in reflection geometry
Strong-field mid-infrared pump--terahertz (THz) probe spectroscopy has been
proven as a powerful tool for light control of different orders in strongly
correlated materials. We report the construction of an ultrafast broadband
infrared pump--THz probe system in reflection geometry. A two-output optical
parametric amplifier is used for generating mid-infrared pulses with GaSe as
the nonlinear crystal. The setup is capable of pumping bulk materials at
wavelengths ranging from 1.2 m to 15 m and beyond, and detecting the
subtle, transient photoinduced changes in the reflected electric field of the
THz probe at different temperatures. As a demonstration, we present 15 m
pump--THz probe measurements of a bulk EuSbTe single crystal. A
transient change in the reflected THz electric field can be clearly resolved.
The widely tuned pumping energy could be used in mode-selective excitation
experiments and applied to many strongly correlated electron systems.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Entanglement combing
We show that all multi-partite pure states can, under local operations, be
transformed into bi-partite pairwise entangled states in a "lossless fashion":
An arbitrary distinguished party will keep pairwise entanglement with all other
parties after the asymptotic protocol - decorrelating all other parties from
each other - in a way that the degree of entanglement of this party with
respect to the rest will remain entirely unchanged. The set of possible
entanglement distributions of bi-partite pairs is also classified. Finally, we
point out several applications of this protocol as a useful primitive in
quantum information theory.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure, replaced with final versio

Research on VCSEL interference analysis and elimination method
Laser methane gas sensors have been increasingly accepted in coal mine safety monitoring. Most laser spectroscopic methane gas sensors are based in BFB lasers at around 1650nm. However, they suffer from high power consumption and high cost due to temperature control is required for laser diode operation at constant temperature. VCSEL lasers have offered low operation current and low power consumption when operating at non-TEC mode. However, it is found that the interference noise is critical for laser methane detection. This paper report typical results of the laser diode ripple characterization method and methods of noise reduction methods are discussed
