An unusual pi* shape resonance in the near-threshold photoionization of S(1) para-difluorobenzene

    Get PDF
Previously reported dramatic changes in photoelectron angular distributions (PADs) as a function of photoelectron kinetic energy following the ionization of S1 p-difluorobenzene are shown to be explained by a shape resonance in the b(2g) symmetry continuum. The characteristics of this resonance are clearly demonstrated by a theoretical multiple-scattering treatment of the photoionization dynamics. New experimental data are presented which demonstrate an apparent insensitivity of the PADs to both vibrational motion and prepared molecular alignment, however, the calculations suggest that strong alignment effects may nevertheless be recognized in the detail of the comparison with experimental data. The apparent, but unexpected, indifference to vibrational excitation is rationalized by considering the nature of the resonance. The correlation of this shape resonance in the continuum with a virtual pi* antibonding orbital is considered. Because this orbital is characteristic of the benzene ring, the existence of similar resonances in related substituted benzenes is discussed.Bellm, SM: Davies, JA: Whiteside, PT; Guo, J: Powis, I; and Reid KL

Free Rota-Baxter algebras and rooted trees

A Rota-Baxter algebra, also known as a Baxter algebra, is an algebra with a linear operator satisfying a relation, called the Rota-Baxter relation, that generalizes the integration by parts formula. Most of the studies on Rota-Baxter algebras have been for commutative algebras. Two constructions of free commutative Rota-Baxter algebras were obtained by Rota and Cartier in the 1970s and a third one by Keigher and one of the authors in the 1990s in terms of mixable shuffles. Recently, noncommutative Rota-Baxter algebras have appeared both in physics in connection with the work of Connes and Kreimer on renormalization in perturbative quantum field theory, and in mathematics related to the work of Loday and Ronco on dendriform dialgebras and trialgebras. This paper uses rooted trees and forests to give explicit constructions of free noncommutative Rota--Baxter algebras on modules and sets. This highlights the combinatorial nature of Rota--Baxter algebras and facilitates their further study. As an application, we obtain the unitarization of Rota-Baxter algebras.Comment: 23 page

Generation of N-qubit W state with rf-SQUID qubits by adiabatic passage

A simple scheme is presented to generate n-qubit W state with rf-superconducting quantum interference devices (rf-SQUIDs) in cavity QED through adiabatic passage. Because of the achievable strong coupling for rf-SQUID qubits embedded in cavity QED, we can get the desired state with high success probability. Furthermore, the scheme is insensitive to position inaccuracy of the rf-SQUIDs. The numerical simulation shows that, by using present experimental techniques, we can achieve our scheme with very high success probability, and the fidelity could be eventually unity with the help of dissipation.Comment: to appear in Phys. Rhabdomyosarcoma: Advances in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

    Get PDF
Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common soft tissue malignancy in childhood and adolescence. The two major histological subtypes of RMS are alveolar RMS, driven by the fusion protein PAX3-FKHR or PAX7-FKHR, and embryonic RMS, which is usually genetically heterogeneous. The prognosis of RMS has improved in the past several decades due to multidisciplinary care. However, in recent years, the treatment of patients with metastatic or refractory RMS has reached a plateau. Thus, to improve the survival rate of RMS patients and their overall well-being, further understanding of the molecular and cellular biology of RMS and identification of novel therapeutic targets are imperative. In this review, we describe the most recent discoveries in the molecular and cellular biology of RMS, including alterations in oncogenic pathways, miRNA (miR), in vivo models, stem cells, and important signal transduction cascades implicated in the development and progression of RMS. Furthermore, we discuss novel potential targeted therapies that may improve the current treatment of RMS

    Long-distance structure of the X(3872)

We investigate heavy quark symmetries for heavy meson hadronic molecules, and explore the consequences of assuming the X(3872) and Zb(10610)Z_b(10610) as an isoscalar DDˉ∗D\bar D^* and an isovector BBˉ∗B\bar B^* hadronic molecules, respectively. The symmetry allows to predict new hadronic molecules, in particular we find an isoscalar 1++1^{++} BBˉ∗B\bar B^* bound state with a mass about 10580 MeV and the isovector charmonium partners of the Zb(10610)Z_b(10610) and the Zb(10650)Z_b(10650) states. Next, we study the X(3872)→D0Dˉ0π0X(3872) \to D^0 \bar D^0\pi^0 three body decay. This decay mode is more sensitive to the long-distance structure of the X(3872) resonance than its J/ψππJ/\psi\pi\pi and J/ψ3πJ/\psi3\pi decays, which are mainly controlled by the short distance part of the X(3872) molecular wave function. We discuss the D0Dˉ0D^0 \bar D^0 final state interactions, which in some situations become quite important. Indeed in these cases, a precise measurement of this partial decay width could provide precise information on the interaction strength between the D(∗)Dˉ(∗)D^{(*)}\bar D^{(*)} charm mesons.Comment: Talk presented at the "XI International Conference on Hyperons, Charm and Beauty Hadrons (BEACH 2014)", Birmingham (U.K.), July 201

Heavy-to-light scalar form factors from Muskhelishvili-Omn\`es dispersion relations

By solving the Muskhelishvili-Omn\`es integral equations, the scalar form factors of the semileptonic heavy meson decays D→πℓˉνℓD\to\pi \bar \ell \nu_\ell, D→KˉℓˉνℓD\to \bar{K} \bar \ell \nu_\ell, Bˉ→πℓνˉℓ\bar{B}\to \pi \ell \bar\nu_\ell and Bˉs→Kℓνˉℓ\bar{B}_s\to K \ell \bar\nu_\ell are simultaneously studied. As input, we employ unitarized heavy meson-Goldstone boson chiral coupled-channel amplitudes for the energy regions not far from thresholds, while, at high energies, adequate asymptotic conditions are imposed. The scalar form factors are expressed in terms of Omn\`es matrices multiplied by vector polynomials, which contain some undetermined dispersive subtraction constants. We make use of heavy quark and chiral symmetries to constrain these constants, which are fitted to lattice QCD results both in the charm and the bottom sectors, and in this latter sector to the light-cone sum rule predictions close to q2=0q^2=0 as well. We find a good simultaneous description of the scalar form factors for the four semileptonic decay reactions. From this combined fit, and taking advantage that scalar and vector form factors are equal at q2=0q^2=0, we obtain ∣Vcd∣=0.244±0.022|V_{cd}|=0.244\pm 0.022, ∣Vcs∣=0.945±0.041|V_{cs}|=0.945\pm 0.041 and ∣Vub∣=(4.3±0.7)×10−3|V_{ub}|=(4.3\pm 0.7)\times10^{-3} for the involved Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements. In addition, we predict the following vector form factors at q2=0q^2=0: ∣f+D→η(0)∣=0.01±0.05|f_+^{D\to\eta}(0)|=0.01\pm 0.05, ∣f+Ds→K(0)∣=0.50±0.08|f_+^{D_s\to K}(0)|=0.50 \pm 0.08, ∣f+Ds→η(0)∣=0.73±0.03|f_+^{D_s\to\eta}(0)|=0.73\pm 0.03 and ∣f+Bˉ→η(0)∣=0.82±0.08|f_+^{\bar{B}\to\eta}(0)|=0.82 \pm 0.08, which might serve as alternatives to determine the CKM elements when experimental measurements of the corresponding differential decay rates become available. Finally, we predict the different form factors above the q2−q^2-regions accessible in the semileptonic decays, up to moderate energies amenable to be described using the unitarized coupled-channel chiral approach.Comment: includes further discussions and references; matches the accepted versio
