Entanglement Scaling in the One-Dimensional Hubbard Model at Criticality

We derive exact expressions for the local entanglement entropy E in the ground state of the one-dimensional Hubbard model at a quantum phase transition driven by a change in magnetic field h or chemical potential u. The leading divergences of dE/dh and dE/du are shown to be directly related to those of the zero-temperature spin and charge susceptibilities. Logarithmic corrections to scaling signal a change in the number of local states accessible to the system as it undergoes the transition.Comment: 4+ pages, 2 figures. Fig. 2 and minor typos correcte

Susceptibility of the Spin 1/2 Heisenberg Antiferromagnetic Chain

Highly accurate results are presented for the susceptibility, χ(T)\chi (T) of the s=1/2s=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain for all temperatures, using the Bethe ansatz and field theory methods. After going through a rounded peak, χ(T)\chi (T) approaches its asympotic zero-temperature value with infinite slope.Comment: 8 pages and 3 postscript figures appended (uuencoded), Revtex, Report #:UBCTP-94-00

Test of Chemical freeze-out at RHIC

We present the results of a systematic test applying statistical thermal model fits in a consistent way for different particle ratios, and different system sizes using the various particle yields measured in the STAR experiment. Comparison between central and peripheral Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions with data from p+p collisions provides an interesting tool to verify the dependence with the system size. We also present a study of the rapidity dependence of the thermal fit parameters using available data from RHIC in the forward rapidity regions and also using different parameterization for the rapidity distribution of different particles.Comment: SQM2008 conference proceeding

Level truncation analysis of exact solutions in open string field theory

We evaluate vacuum energy density of Schnabl's solution using the level truncation calculation and the total action including interaction terms. The level truncated solution provides vacuum energy density expected both for tachyon vacuum and trivial pure gauge. We discuss the role of the phantom term to reproduce correct vacuum energy.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures,v2: 1 figure replace

Pre-K-Edge Structure on Anomalous X-Ray Scattering in LaMnO3

We study the pre-K-edge structure of the resonant X-ray scattering for forbidden reflections (anomalous scattering) in LaMnO3, using the band calculation based on the local density approximation. We find a two-peak structure with an intensity approximately 1/100 of that of the main peak. This originates from a mixing of 4p states of Mn to 3d states of neighboring Mn sites. The effect is enhanced by an interference with the tail of the main peak. The effect of the quadrupole transition is found to be one order of magnitude smaller than that of the dipole transition, modifying slightly the azimuthal-angle dependence.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, submitted to J. On the spectrum of S=1/2 XXX Heisenberg chain with elliptic exchange

It is found that the Hamiltonian of S=1/2 isotropic Heisenberg chain with NN sites and elliptic non-nearest-neighbor exchange is diagonalized in each sector of the Hilbert space with magnetization N/2MN/2-M, 1<M[N/2]1<M\leq[N/2], by means of double quasiperiodic meromorphic solutions to the MM-particle quantum Calogero-Moser problem on a line. The spectrum and highest-weight states are determined by the solutions of the systems of transcendental equations of the Bethe-ansatz type which arise as restrictions to particle pseudomomenta.Comment: 9 pages, Late

Solving Witten's SFT by Insertion of Operators on Projectors

Following Okawa, we insert operators at the boundary of regulated star algebra projectors to construct the leading order tachyon vacuum solution of open string field theory. We also calculate the energy density of the solution and the ratio between the kinetic and the cubic terms. A universal relationship between these two quantities is found. We show that for any twist invariant projector, the energy density can account for at most 68.46% of the D25-brane tension. The general results are then applied to regulated slivers and butterflies, and the next-to-leading order solution for regulated sliver states is constructed.Comment: 24 pages, 4 figure

    4p states and X-Ray Spectroscopy

The 4p states in transition metals and their compounds usually play minor roles on their physical quantities. Recent development of resonant x-ray scattering (RXS) at the K-edge of transition metals, however, casts light on the 4p states, because the signals on orbital and magnetic superlattice spots are brought about by the modulation in the 4p states. The 4p states are extending in solids and thereby sensitive to electronic states at neighboring sites. This characteristic determines the mechanism of RXS that the intensity on the orbital superlattice spots are mainly generated by the lattice distortion and those on magnetic superlattice spots by the coupling of the 4p states with the orbital polarization in the 3d states at neighboring sites. Taking up typical examples for orbital and magnetic RXS, we demonstrate these mechanisms on the basis of the band structure calculation. Finally, we study the MCD spectra at the K-edge, demonstrating that the same mechanism as the magnetic RXS is working.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures, submitted to Physica Scripta (comment

Hawking Radiation from Fluctuating Black Holes

    Get PDF
Classically, black Holes have the rigid event horizon. However, quantum mechanically, the event horizon of black holes becomes fuzzy due to quantum fluctuations. We study Hawking radiation of a real scalar field from a fluctuating black hole. To quantize metric perturbations, we derive the quadratic action for those in the black hole background. Then, we calculate the cubic interaction terms in the action for the scalar field. Using these results, we obtain the spectrum of Hawking radiation in the presence of interaction between the scalar field and the metric. It turns out that the spectrum deviates from the Planck spectrum due to quantum fluctuations of the metric.Comment: 35pages, 4 figure

Incommensurate Matrix Product State for Quantum Spin Systems

We introduce a matrix product state (MPS) with an incommensurate periodicity by applying the spin-rotation operator of each site to a uniform MPS in the thermodynamic limit. The spin rotations decrease the variational energy with accompanying translational symmetry breaking and the rotational symmetry breaking in the spin space even if the Hamiltonian has the both symmetries. The optimized pitch of rotational operator reflects the commensurate/incommensurate properties of spin-spin correlation functions in the S=1/2S=1/2 Heisenberg chain and the S=1/2S=1/2 ferro-antiferro zigzag chain.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
