Gravitational waves in the generalized Chaplygin gas model

The consequences of taking the generalized Chaplygin gas as the dark energy constituent of the Universe on the gravitational waves are studied and the spectrum obtained from this model, for the flat case, is analyzed. Besides its importance for the study of the primordial Universe, the gravitational waves represent an additional perspective (besides the CMB temperature and polarization anisotropies) to evaluate the consistence of the different dark energy models and establish better constraints to their parameters. The analysis presented here takes this fact into consideration to open one more perspective of verification of the generalized Chapligin gas model applicability. Nine particular cases are compared: one where no dark energy is present; two that simulate the $\Lambda$-CDM model; two where the gas acts like the traditional Chaplygin gas; and four where the dark energy is the generalized Chaplygin gas. Evolução e perfil distributivo das aplicações do Fundo Constitucional de Financiamento do Norte (FNO) na pecuária leiteira paraense no período 2000-2009.

O crédito rural é uma política importante para viabilizar o desenvolvimento regional, pois propicia aos produtores recursos para custeio, investimento e comercialização, contribuindo para o fortalecimento das cadeias produtivas. O crescimento da demanda por produtos lácteos tem realçado a necessidade de medidas visando ampliar a produção leiteira em todo o país. Nos últimos anos os estados da Região Norte têm exibido um importante crescimento nessa atividade. No estado do Pará, um importante instrumento de apoio tem sido os recursos de crédito rural do Fundo Constitucional de Financiamento do Norte (FNO). Este trabalho analisou a evolução e o perfil distributivo das aplicações do FNO na pecuária leiteira paraense no período 2000-2009. Lorentz-violating nonminimal coupling contributions in mesonic hydrogen atoms and generation of photon higher-order derivative terms

We have studied the contributions of Lorentz-violating CPT-odd and CPT-even nonminimal couplings to the energy spectrum of the mesonic hydrogen and the higher-order radiative corrections to the effective action of the photon sector of a Lorentz-violating version of the scalar electrodynamics. By considering the complex scalar field describes charged mesons (pion or kaon), the non-relativistic limit of the model allows to attain upper-bounds by analyzing its contribution to the mesonic hydrogen energy. By using the experimental data for the $1S$ strong correction shift and the pure QED transitions $4P \rightarrow 3P$, the best upper-bound for the CPT-odd coupling is $<10^{-12}\text{eV}^{-1}$ and for the CPT-even one is $<10^{-16}\text{eV}^{-2}$. Besides, the CPT-odd radiative correction to the photon action is a dimension-5 operator which looks like a higher-order Carroll-Field-Jackiw term. The CPT-even radiative contribution to the photon effective action is a dimension-6 operator which would be a higher-order derivative version of the minimal CPT-even term of the standard model extension

Caracterização da agroindústria do leite na região oeste do estado do Pará.

O trabalho caracterizou a situação do setor agroindustrial ligado ao processamento de leite na região oeste do estado do Pará. A pesquisa abrangeu cinco laticínios localizados nos municípios de Itaituba, Rurópolis, Trairão e Placas. Os temas analisados envolveram estrutura de produção, mão de obra, gerenciamento, produção e comercialização, investimento e financiamento. Os resultados evidenciam uma estrutura produtiva tecnologicamente defasada, nível de ociosidade alto e mão de obra pouco qualificada. Contudo, apesar disso, atuam como elementos importantes na geração de emprego e renda na região estudada. Observou-se problemas no gerenciamento das empresas e para cumprir a legislação. A produção estava concentrada no queijo mussarela, destinado principalmente às cidades de Santarém e Itaituba. Investimentos na infraestrutura predial foram realizados e os proprietários desejavam aumentar essas inversões, mas enfrentavam dificuldades para acessar financiamento. Problemas relacionados à infraestrutura elétrica e rodoviária constituíam entraves ao melhor desenvolvimento das atividades. A sazonalidade na produção é expressiva. A produção é maior no verão, o que representa, também, uma oportunidade de mercado para os laticínios pesquisados, pois seus produtos teriam maior tempo de vida de prateleira para atender os mercados locais e de cidades próximas em comparação aos provenientes de outras regiões brasileiras

Extreme thermopower anisotropy and interchain transport in the quasi-one-dimensional metal Li(0.9)Mo(6)O(17)

Thermopower and electrical resistivity measurements transverse to the conducting chains of the quasi-one-dimensional metal Li(0.9)Mo(6)O(17) are reported in the temperature range 5 K = 400 K the interchain transport is determined by thermal excitation of charge carriers from a valence band ~ 0.14 eV below the Fermi level, giving rise to a large, p-type thermopower that coincides with a small, n-type thermopower along the chains. This dichotomy -- semiconductor-like in one direction and metallic in a mutually perpendicular direction -- gives rise to substantial transverse thermoelectric (TE) effects and a transverse TE figure of merit among the largest known for a single compound.Comment: PRL in press, manuscript (5pp, 4 Fig.'s) and Supplementary Material (3pp, 3 Fig.'s

Straight spinning cosmic strings in Brans-Dicke gravity

It is presented an exact solution of straight spinning cosmic strings in Brans-Dicke theory of gravitation. The possibility of the existence of closed timelike curves around these cosmic strings is analyzed. Furthermore, the stability about the formation of the topological defect discussed here is checked. It is shown the existence of a suitable choice for the integration constants in which closed timelike curves are not allowed. We also verify if it is possible that the obtained spacetime can be the source that describes the observed rotational curves in some galaxies.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur

Tuning paramagnetic spin-excitations of single adatoms

Around 50 years ago, Doniach [Proc. Phys. Soc. 91, 86 (1967)] predicted the existence of paramagnons in nearly ferromagnetic materials, recently measured in bulk Pd [Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 027207 (2010)]. Here we predict the analogous effect for single adatoms, namely paramagnetic spin-excitations (PSE). Based on time-dependent density functional theory, we demonstrate that these overdamped excitations acquire a well-defined peak structure in the meV energy region when the adatom's Stoner criterion for magnetism is close to the critical point. In addition, our calculations reveal a subtle tunability and enhancement of PSE by external magnetic fields, exceeding by far the response of bulk paramagnons and even featuring the atomic version of a quantum phase transition. We further demonstrate how PSE can be detected as moving steps in the $\mathrm{d}I/dV$ signal of state-of-the-art inelastic scanning tunneling spectroscopy, opening a potential route for experimentally accessing fundamental electronic properties of non-magnetic adatoms, such as the Stoner parameter.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

No projeto de Uniformização do Zoneamento Ecológico Econômico da Amazônia Legal (UZEE) ora em execução, as etapas envolvidas na aquisição, levantamento, análise e unificação de informações resultaram na criação de um repositório local de dados, que foi utilizado como subsídio para o estabelecimento de um banco de dados desenvolvido no Sistema Informações Geográficas (SIG) Quantum GIS (QGIS)
