The configuration multi-edge model: Assessing the effect of fixing node strengths on weighted network magnitudes
Complex networks grow subject to structural constraints which affect their
measurable properties. Assessing the effect that such constraints impose on
their observables is thus a crucial aspect to be taken into account in their
analysis. To this end,we examine the effect of fixing the strength sequence in
multi-edge networks on several network observables such as degrees, disparity,
average neighbor properties and weight distribution using an ensemble approach.
We provide a general method to calculate any desired weighted network metric
and we show that several features detected in real data could be explained
solely by structural constraints. We thus justify the need of analytical null
models to be used as basis to assess the relevance of features found in real
data represented in weighted network form.Comment: 11 pages. 4 figure
On Self-Organized Criticality and Synchronization in Lattice Models of Coupled Dynamical Systems
Lattice models of coupled dynamical systems lead to a variety of complex
behaviors. Between the individual motion of independent units and the
collective behavior of members of a population evolving synchronously, there
exist more complicated attractors. In some cases, these states are identified
with self-organized critical phenomena. In other situations, with
clusterization or phase-locking. The conditions leading to such different
behaviors in models of integrate-and-fire oscillators and stick-slip processes
are reviewed.Comment: 41 pages. Plain LaTeX. Style included in main file. To appear as an

Current constraints on the EFT for the \Lambda N --> N N transition
The relation between the low energy constants appearing in the effective
field theory description of the \Lambda N --> N N transition potential and the
parameters of the one-meson-exchange model previously developed are obtained.
We extract the relative importance of the different exchange mechanisms
included in the meson picture by means of a comparison to the corresponding
operational structures appearing in the effective approach. The ability of this
procedure to obtain the weak baryon-baryon-meson couplings for a possible
scalar exchange is also discussed.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure
Computing Birational Polynomial Surface Parametrizations without Base Points
In this paper, we present an algorithm for reparametrizing birational surface
parametrizations into birational polynomial surface parametrizations without
base points, if they exist. For this purpose, we impose a transversality
condition to the base points of the input parametrization
