    Design and Characterization of Electrospun Polyamide Nanofiber Media for Air Filtration Applications

    Electrospun polyamide 6 (PA 6) and polyamide 6/6 (PA 6/6) nanofibers were produced in order to investigate their experimental characteristics with the goal of obtaining filtration relevant fiber media. The experimental design model of each PA nanofibers contained the following variables: polymer concentration, ratio of solvents, nanofiber media collection time, tip-to-collector distance, and the deposition voltage. The average diameter of the fibers, their morphology, basis weight, thickness, and resulting media solidity were investigated. Effects of each variable on the essential characteristics of PA 6/6 and PA 6 nanofiber media were studied. The comparative analysis of the obtained PA 6/6 and PA 6 nanofiber characteristics revealed that PA 6/6 had higher potential to be used in filtration applications. Based on the experimental results, the graphical representation—response surfaces—for obtaining nanofiber media with the desirable fiber diameter and basis weight characteristics were derived. Based on the modelling results the nanofiber filter media (mats) were fabricated. Filtration results revealed that nanofiber filter media electrospun from PA6/6 8% (w/vol) solutions with the smallest fiber diameters (62–66 nm) had the highest filtration efficiency (PA6/6_30 = 84.9–90.9%) and the highest quality factor (PA6/6_10 = 0.0486–0.0749 Pa−1)

    Change point detection and dealing with gradual and multi-order dynamics in process mining

    In recent years process mining techniques have matured. Provided that the process is stable and enough example traces have been recorded in the event log, it is possible to discover a high-quality process model that can be used for performance analysis, compliance checking, and prediction. Unfortunately, most processes are not in steady-state and process discovery techniques have problems uncovering "second-order dynamics" (i.e., the process itself changes while being analyzed). This paper describes an approach to discover a variety of concept drifts in processes. Unlike earlier approaches, we can discover gradual drifts and multi-order dynamics (e.g., recurring seasonal effects mixed with the effects of an economic crisis). We use a novel adaptive windowing approach to robustly localize changes (gradual or sudden). Our extensive evaluation (based on objective criteria) shows that the new approach is able to efficiently uncover a broad range of drifts in processes

    Effect of Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonists on Cardiac Structure and Function in Patients With Diastolic Dysfunction and Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction: A Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review

    BACKGROUND: There has been an increasing interest in use of mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFPEF). However, a comprehensive evaluation of MRA effects on left ventricular (LV) structure and function in these patients is lacking. In this meta-analysis, we evaluated the effects of MRAs on LV structure and function among patients with diastolic dysfunction or HFPEF. METHODS & RESULTS: Randomized, controlled clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of MRAs in patients with diastolic dysfunction or HFPEF were included. The primary outcome was change in E/e', a specific measure of diastolic function. Secondary outcomes included changes in other measures of diastolic function, LV structure, surrogate markers for myocardial fibrosis (carboxy-terminal peptide of procollagen type I [PICP] and amino-terminal peptide of pro-collagen type-II [PIIINP]), blood pressure, and exercise tolerance. In the pooled analysis, MRA use was associated with significant reduction in E/e' (weighted mean difference [WMD] [95% confidence interval {CI}]: -1.68 [-2.03 to -1.33]; P<0.0001) and deceleration time (WMD [95% CI]: -12.0 ms [-23.3 to -0.7]; P=0.04) as compared with control, suggesting and improvement in diastolic function. Furthermore, blood pressure and levels of PIIINP and PICP were also significantly reduced with MRA therapy with no significant change in LV mass or dimensions. CONCLUSION: MRA therapy in patients with asymptomatic diastolic dysfunction or HFPEF is associated with significant improvement in diastolic function and markers of cardiac fibrosis without a significant change in LV mass or dimensions
