Surface Critical Phenomena and Scaling in the Eight-Vertex Model
We give a physical interpretation of the entries of the reflection
-matrices of Baxter's eight-vertex model in terms of an Ising interaction at
an open boundary. Although the model still defies an exact solution we
nevertheless obtain the exact surface free energy from a crossing-unitarity
relation. The singular part of the surface energy is described by the critical
exponents and , where controls the strength of the four-spin
interaction. These values reduce to the known Ising exponents at the decoupling
point and confirm the scaling relations

Neural and physiological data from participants listening to affective music
Music provides a means of communicating affective meaning. However, the neurological mechanisms by which music induces affect are not fully understood. Our project sought to investigate this through a series of experiments into how humans react to affective musical stimuli and how physiological and neurological signals recorded from those participants change in accordance with self-reported changes in affect. In this paper, the datasets recorded over the course of this project are presented, including details of the musical stimuli, participant reports of their felt changes in affective states as they listened to the music, and concomitant recordings of physiological and neurological activity. We also include non-identifying meta data on our participant populations for purposes of further exploratory analysis. This data provides a large and valuable novel resource for researchers investigating emotion, music, and how they affect our neural and physiological activity
Global Antifungal Profile Optimization of Chlorophenyl Derivatives against Botrytis cinerea and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides
Twenty-two aromatic derivatives bearing a chlorine atom and a different chain in the para or meta
position were prepared and evaluated for their in vitro antifungal activity against the phytopathogenic
fungi Botrytis cinerea and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The results showed that maximum inhibition
of the growth of these fungi was exhibited for enantiomers S and R of 1-(40-chlorophenyl)-
2-phenylethanol (3 and 4). Furthermore, their antifungal activity showed a clear structure-activity
relationship (SAR) trend confirming the importance of the benzyl hydroxyl group in the inhibitory
mechanism of the compounds studied. Additionally, a multiobjective optimization study of the
global antifungal profile of chlorophenyl derivatives was conducted in order to establish a rational
strategy for the filtering of new fungicide candidates from combinatorial libraries. The MOOPDESIRE
methodology was used for this purpose providing reliable ranking models that can be
used later
Top quark electric and chromo electric dipole moments in the general two Higgs Doublet model
We study the electric and chromo electric dipole moment of top quark in the
general two Higgs Doublet model (model III). We analyse the dependency of this
quantity to the new phases coming from the complex Yukawa couplings and masses
of charged and neutral Higgs bosons. We observe that the electric and chromo
elecric dipole moments of top quark are at the order of 10^{-21} e cm and
10^{-20} g_s cm, which are extremely large values compared to ones calculated
in the SM and also two Higgs Doublet model with real Yukawa couplings.Comment: 9 pages,10 figure
Glueballs: Charmonium Decay and Annihilation
The vector glueball , made of 3 valence gluons, is expected to be
``clean": it mixes less with quarkonia, but mediates OZI violations. The recent
glueball candidate and the persistence of the puzzle suggest , with mixing angle , hence , , MeV, few keV,
few eV. Lower and upper bounds on can be argued from energy scan data and the condition . dominance may explain the ``large" OZI violation in vs. .Comment: 12 pages REVTeX, 3 PS figure
Natural Diagonal Riemannian Almost Product and Para-Hermitian Cotangent Bundles
We obtain the natural diagonal almost product and locally product structures
on the total space of the cotangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold. We find
the Riemannian almost product (locally product) and the (almost) para-Hermitian
cotangent bundles of natural diagonal lift type. We prove the characterization
theorem for the natural diagonal (almost) para-K\"ahlerian structures on the

Saturation of electrical resistivity
Resistivity saturation is observed in many metallic systems with a large
resistivity, i.e., when the resistivity has reached a critical value, its
further increase with temperature is substantially reduced. This typically
happens when the apparent mean free path is comparable to the interatomic
separations - the Ioffe-Regel condition. Recently, several exceptions to this
rule have been found. Here, we review experimental results and early theories
of resistivity saturation. We then describe more recent theoretical work,
addressing cases both where the Ioffe-Regel condition is satisfied and where it
is violated. In particular we show how the (semiclassical) Ioffe-Regel
condition can be derived quantum-mechanically under certain assumptions about
the system and why these assumptions are violated for high-Tc cuprates and

Weak Decays Beyond Leading Logarithms
We review the present status of QCD corrections to weak decays beyond the
leading logarithmic approximation including particle-antiparticle mixing and
rare and CP violating decays. After presenting the basic formalism for these
calculations we discuss in detail the effective hamiltonians for all decays for
which the next-to-leading corrections are known. Subsequently, we present the
phenomenological implications of these calculations. In particular we update
the values of various parameters and we incorporate new information on m_t in
view of the recent top quark discovery. One of the central issues in our review
are the theoretical uncertainties related to renormalization scale ambiguities
which are substantially reduced by including next-to-leading order corrections.
The impact of this theoretical improvement on the determination of the
Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix is then illustrated in various cases.Comment: 229 pages, 32 PostScript figures (included); uses RevTeX, epsf.sty,

Advances in perturbative thermal field theory
The progress of the last decade in perturbative quantum field theory at high
temperature and density made possible by the use of effective field theories
and hard-thermal/dense-loop resummations in ultrarelativistic gauge theories is
reviewed. The relevant methods are discussed in field theoretical models from
simple scalar theories to non-Abelian gauge theories including gravity. In the
simpler models, the aim is to give a pedagogical account of some of the
relevant problems and their resolution, while in the more complicated but also
more interesting models such as quantum chromodynamics, a summary of the
results obtained so far are given together with references to a few most recent
