Exploring sense of community within an online healthcare context
This paper argues that organisations considering corporate community involvement within online communities need to understanding how the notion of sense of community (SOC) is manifested and experienced within such stakeholder groups. This is based on the assumption that CCI is a form of corporate social responsibility that goes beyond the mere funding of charitable activities but involves a deeper involvement and participation within the life of the community (Moon and Muthuri 2006). Hence, it is expected that the corporation not only allocates significant amount of time and resources to such involvement (Yekini et al. 2017), but also implies a more in-depth understanding of the community itself. Therefore, this paper argues that in order for CSR managers to better identify and engage with relevant online communities, they need to be able to understand and apply the notion SOC within an online context. The case of an online healthcare community, hosted by a charitable institution in the UK, is presented to illustrate and support this argument

The Role of Mental Budgeting in Philanthropic Decision-Making
Mental budgeting (also known as mental accounting) has examined how consumers allocate and expend resources. However, the mental budgeting literature has not yet examined the availability and use of mental budgets for philanthropic, as opposed to day-to-day, consumption. Depth interviews with donors in both the United States and Canada reveal that donors do maintain mental budgets for philanthropy, that charitable gifts are expensed against the mental budget for philanthropy as well as against other budgets, and that donors’ mental budgets are malleable. Study findings extend the literature on the management and malleability of mental budgets, and provide insight to nonprofit organizations (NPO) to better position appeals to maximize donations and strengthen long-term donor relationships
Financial planners and philanthropic planning
This article reports findings from a survey of Canadian financial planners. The focus of the study is learning more about the depth and breadth of philanthropic planning that is included in their advising services to their high-net worth clients. The findings indicate that a minority of financial planners (1) regularly broach the topic of philanthropy in their counseling, (2) believe their clients are interested in philanthropy, and (3) feel sufficiently knowledgeable to assist their clients with philanthropic planning. The implications of these findings and recommendations for improvement are discussed
