    Classical Integrable N=1 and N=2N= 2 Super Sinh-Gordon Models with Jump Defects

    The structure of integrable field theories in the presence of jump defects is discussed in terms of boundary functions under the Lagrangian formalism. Explicit examples of bosonic and fermionic theories are considered. In particular, the boundary functions for the N=1 and N=2 super sinh-Gordon models are constructed and shown to generate the Backlund transformations for its soliton solutions. As a new and interesting example, a solution with an incoming boson and an outgoing fermion for the N=1 case is presented.     A simple beam model for the shear failure of interfaces

    We propose a novel model for the shear failure of a glued interface between two solid blocks. We model the interface as an array of elastic beams which experience stretching and bending under shear load and break if the two deformation modes exceed randomly distributed breaking thresholds. The two breaking modes can be independent or combined in the form of a von Mises type breaking criterion. Assuming global load sharing following the beam breaking, we obtain analytically the macroscopic constitutive behavior of the system and describe the microscopic process of the progressive failure of the interface. We work out an efficient simulation technique which allows for the study of large systems. The limiting case of very localized interaction of surface elements is explored by computer simulations.Comment: 11 pages, 13 figure

    This is the final version of a series of papers uploaded in May 25, 2005. We have splitted the long last paper of the previous version in two parts to make it easier to understand. The results are essentially the same, although the presentation has changed substantially. The first three papers have not changed. This is a collection of five papers on the foundation of triangulated categories in the context of groupoid-enriched categories, termed track categories, and characteristic cohomology classes. As a main result it is shown that given an additive category A with a translation functor t: A --> A and a class V in translation cohomology H^3(A,t) then two simple properties of V imply that (A,t) is a triangulated category. The cohomology class V yields an equivalence class (B,[s]) where B is a track category with homotopy category A and [s] is the homotopy class of a pseudofunctor s: B --> B inducing t. The two properties of V correspond to natural axioms on B and s which again imply that (A,t) is a triangulated category. The five papers of this volume depend on each other by cross references, but each paper can be read independently of the others so that the reader is free to choose one of the papers to start.
