    The present study will first examine the diversity to be observed in references to the Reed Sea event outside the Book of Exodus. The second section will then trace the fourfold witness underlying the most extensive account of the event, that found in Ex. 13-15. As in the case of the fourfold Gospel account in the New Testament, diverse testimonies are seen to reflect the same event, applying it to different needs and situations in the life of God\u27s people. We must learn to avoid leveling the characteristic contours of these individual testimonies into a fiat and uninteresting plain of simplified statements. Instead we must look for an enrichment of faith and understanding, channeled through the varying gifts of inspiration ·bestowed on various holy men of God.     Development of composite carrythrough bulkhead

    A structural development program was recently completed in which the weight and fatigue advantages of an all composite major load carrying bulkhead was successfully demonstrated. Fabrication of a full scale article, including static and fatigue testing of the carry-through beam portion verified the producibility, strength and durability of this design, thereby presenting the opportunity for use on aircraft upgrades and new aircraft. A 15% weight saving is achievable and, more importantly, the fatigue problems that normally plague metal bulkheads are virtually eliminated

    Growth and Defection in Hierarchical, Synergistic Networks

    Certain classes of social and economic networks display a set of fundamentally similar characteristics: individuals benefit from being in groups, and the groups are internally organized in a hierarchical fashion where benefit is allocated unequally. To better understand how these networks evolve and maintain themselves, we developed a model that grows hierarchical networks through the local actions of agents who can both solicit others to join their group and defect to start their own independent organization. Group benefit is conceptualized as synergy, which increases more rapidly than the sum of the individual talent of group members. Synergy is allocated back to members within the hierarchy through a nonlinear payback function such that the higher an individual is within the hierarchy, the greater their payback. Parametric simulations where we consider the influence of the payback function and population size indicate that cluster size transitions from the size of the entire population where the maximum system synergy is obtained to smaller and smaller values as payback becomes increasingly inequitable and population size becomes large. For such sub-maximal situations, we find cluster size and total system synergy to fluctuate with well defined mean values that suggests the existence of a stochastically stable, asymptotic attractor.

    Shell Neurons of the Master Circadian Clock Coordinate the Phase of Tissue Clocks Throughout the Brain and Body

    Background: Daily rhythms in mammals are programmed by a master clock in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). The SCN contains two main compartments (shell and core), but the role of each region in system-level coordination remains ill defined. Herein, we use a functional assay to investigate how downstream tissues interpret region-specific outputs by using in vivo exposure to long day photoperiods to temporally dissociate the SCN. We then analyze resulting changes in the rhythms of clocks located throughout the brain and body to examine whether they maintain phase synchrony with the SCN shell or core. Results: Nearly all of the 17 tissues examined in the brain and body maintain phase synchrony with the SCN shell, but not the SCN core, which indicates that downstream oscillators are set by cues controlled specifically by the SCN shell. Interestingly, we also found that SCN dissociation diminished the amplitude of rhythms in core clock gene and protein expression in brain tissues by 50–75 %, which suggests that light-driven changes in the functional organization of the SCN markedly influence the strength of rhythms in downstream tissues. Conclusions: Overall, our results reveal that body clocks receive time-of-day cues specifically from the SCN shell, which may be an adaptive design principle that serves to maintain system-level phase relationships in a changing environment. Further, we demonstrate that lighting conditions alter the amplitude of the molecular clock in downstream tissues, which uncovers a new form of plasticity that may contribute to seasonal changes in physiology and behavior

    High RBM3 expression in prostate cancer independently predicts a reduced risk of biochemical recurrence and disease progression

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>High expression of the RNA-binding protein RBM3 has previously been found to be associated with good prognosis in breast cancer, ovarian cancer, malignant melanoma and colorectal cancer. The aim of this study was to examine the prognostic impact of immunohistochemical RBM3 expression in prostate cancer.</p> <p>Findings</p> <p>Immunohistochemical RBM3 expression was examined in a tissue microarray with malignant and benign prostatic specimens from 88 patients treated with radical prostatectomy for localized disease. While rarely expressed in benign prostate gland epithelium, RBM3 was found to be up-regulated in prostate intraepithelial neoplasia and present in various fractions and intensities in invasive prostate cancer. High nuclear RBM3 expression was significantly associated with a prolonged time to biochemical recurrence (BCR) (HR 0.56, 95% CI: 0.34-0.93, <it>p </it>= 0.024) and clinical progression (HR 0.09, 95% CI: 0.01-0.71, <it>p = </it>0.021). These associations remained significant in multivariate analysis, adjusted for preoperative PSA level in blood, pathological Gleason score and presence or absence of extracapsular extension, seminal vesicle invasion and positive surgical margin (HR 0.41, 95% CI: 0.19-0.89, <it>p </it>= 0.024 for BCR and HR 0.06, 95% CI: 0.01-0.50, <it>p = </it>0.009 for clinical progression).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our results demonstrate that high nuclear expression of RBM3 in prostate cancer is associated with a prolonged time to disease progression and, thus, a potential biomarker of favourable prognosis. The value of RBM3 for prognostication, treatment stratification and follow-up of prostate cancer patients should be further validated in larger studies.</p

    Using LongSAGE to Detect Biomarkers of Cervical Cancer Potentially Amenable to Optical Contrast Agent Labelling

    Sixteen longSAGE libraries from four different clinical stages of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia have enabled us to identify novel cell-surface biomarkers indicative of CIN stage. By comparing gene expression profiles of cervical tissue at early and advanced stages of CIN, several genes are identified to be novel genetic markers. We present fifty-six cell-surface gene products differentially expressed during progression of CIN. These cell surface proteins are being examined to establish their capacity for optical contrast agent binding. Contrast agent visualization will allow real-time assessment of the physiological state of the disease process bringing vast benefit to cancer care.     The Ubiquitin Ligase Siah2 is a Female-Specific Regulator of Circadian Rhythms and Metabolism

    Circadian clocks enable organisms to predict and align their behaviors and physiologies to constant daily day-night environmental cycle. Because the ubiquitin ligase Siah2 has been identified as a potential regulator of circadian clock function in cultured cells, we have used SIAH2-deficient mice to examine its function in vivo. Our experiments demonstrate a striking and unexpected sexually dimorphic effect of SIAH2-deficiency on the regulation of rhythmically expressed genes in the liver. The absence of SIAH2 in females, but not in males, altered the expression of core circadian clock genes and drastically remodeled the rhythmic transcriptome in the liver by increasing the number of day-time expressed genes, and flipping the rhythmic expression from nighttime expressed genes to the daytime. These effects are not readily explained by effects on known sexually dimorphic pathways in females. Moreover, loss of SIAH2 in females, not males, preferentially altered the expression of transcription factors and genes involved in regulating lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Consequently, SIAH2-deficient females, but not males, displayed disrupted daily lipid and lipoprotein patterns, increased adiposity and impaired metabolic homeostasis. Overall, these data suggest that SIAH2 may be a key component of a female-specific circadian transcriptional output circuit that directs the circadian timing of gene expression to regulate physiological rhythms, at least in the liver. In turn, our findings imply that sex-specific transcriptional mechanisms may closely interact with the circadian clock to tailor overt rhythms for sex-specific needs

Полученными результатами являются вольт-амперные и вольт-ваттные характеристики, показывающие влияние модели обратного тока насыщения диода на выходные параметры солнечной батареи.The work was carried out modeling of the solar battery in the software MATLAB Simulink. The output parameters of the solar battery were studied depending on the model of the reverse current saturation of the diode. The results are current-voltage and voltage-watt characteristics, showing the influence of the model of the inverse diode saturation current on the output parameters of the solar battery
