Limits on the Doppler factor in relativistic jets by means of gamma-ray observations
A new, simple and potentially useful method for constraining the kinematical parameters of relativistic jets based on gamma ray spectral measurements of Active Galaxies is presented. The application of this method to the Quasar 3C273 leads to a value of the Doppler factor of 3 to 4. This corresponds to jet parameters of mu 2 and theta 15 deg in good agreement with the values estimated independently from radio observations of superluminal motion. For the particular case of 3C273, the results are also compared to those given by a similar technique based on the comparison of the X-ray observational data with the synchrotron self Compton prediction from radio measurements. The application of the proposed technique to a significant sample of active galaxies as a result of future gamma ray surveys of the sky is briefly discussed, particularly with respect to possible ways to constrain the cosmological constants H sub o and q sub o
Stress intensity factors in bonded half planes containing inclined cracks and subjected to antiplane shear loading
The antiplane shear problem for two bonded dissimilar half planes containing a semi-infinite crack or two arbitrarily located collinear cracks was considered. For the semi-infinite crack the problem was solved for a concentrated wedge load and the stress intensity factor and the angular distribution of stresses were calculated. For finite cracks the problem was reduced to a pair of integral equations. Numerical results were obtained for cracks fully imbedded in a homogeneous medium, one crack tip touching the interface, and a crack crossing the interface for various crack angles
EXITE2 Observation of the SIGMA Source GRS 1227+025
We report the EXITE2 hard X-ray imaging of the sky around 3C273. A 2h
observation on May 8, 1997, shows a 260 mCrab source detected at
in each of two bands (50-70 and 70-93 keV) and located 30'
from 3C273 and consistent in position with the SIGMA source GRS1227+025. The
EXITE2 spectrum is consistent with a power law with photon index 3 and large
low energy absorption, as indicated by the GRANAT/SIGMA results. No source was
detected in more sensitive followup EXITE2 observations in 2000 and 2001 with
3 upper limits of 190 and 65 mCrab, respectively. Comparison with the
flux detected by SIGMA shows the source to be highly variable, suggesting it
may be non-thermal and beamed and thus the first example of a ``type 2''
(absorbed) Blazar. Alternatively it might be (an unprecedented) very highly
absorbed binary system undergoing accretion disk instability outbursts,

Multi-wavelength properties of the high-energy bright Seyfert 1 galaxy IGR J18027-1455
A new sample of hard X-ray sources in the Galactic Plane is being revealed by
the regular observations performed by the INTEGRAL satellite. The full
characterization of these sources is mandatory to understand the hard X-ray
sky. Here we report new multifrequency radio, infrared and optical observations
of the source IGR J18027-1455, as well as a multi-wavelength study from radio
to hard X-rays. The radio counterpart of IGR J18027-1455 is not resolved at any
observing frequency. The radio flux density is well fitted by a simple power
law with a spectral index alpha=-0.75+/-0.02. This value is typical of
optically thin non-thermal synchrotron emission originated in a jet. The NIR
and optical spectra show redshifted emission lines with z=0.034, and a broad
Halpha line profile with FWHM ~3400 km/s. This suggests an Active Galactic
Nucleus (AGN) of type 1 as the optical counterpart of IGR J18027-1455. We
confirm the Seyfert 1 nature of the source, which is intrinsically bright at
high energies both in absolute terms and when scaled to a normalized 6 cm
luminosity. Finally, comparing its X-ray luminosity with isotropic indicators,
we find that the source is Compton thin and AGN dominated. This indicates that
INTEGRAL might have just seen the tip of the iceberg, and several tens of such

Using X-ray catalogues to find counterparts to unassociated high-energy Fermi/LAT sources
The first Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) catalogue of sources (1FHL)
emitting at high energies (above 10 GeV) reports the details of 514 objects
detected in the first three years of the Fermi mission. Of these, 71 were
reported as unidentified in the 1FHL catalogue, although six are likely to be
associated with a supernova remnant (SNR), a Pulsar Wind Nebula (PWN) or a
combination of both, thereby leaving a list of 65 still unassociated objects.
Herein, we report a preliminary analysis on this sample of objects
concentrating on nine 1FHL sources, which were found to have a clear optical
extragalactic classification. They are all blazar, eight BL Lac and one flat
