Today’s world faces many challenges that may be solved by using the principles of bioeconomy. Bioeconomy has had a multi-disciplinary approach with the objective of an integrated scope, namely, to achieve sustainable development. In a knowledge-based economy, the link between sustainable bioeconomy and organizations is achieved by Intellectual Capital. The intangible assets of Intellectual Capital coming from the external environment of an organization in the shape of Relational Capital have great value, as they can offer competitive advantages. Consequently, along with the progress of technology and especially the online opinion platforms and Social Media, consumers have begun to share their experiences with other consumers in a new form of communication called electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM). In the health care field, this type of communication triggered a shift in the consumer behavior, leading to their knowledge empowerment about physicians, symptoms and even health care organizations. This study extends the existing literature on health care and Relational Capital by examining the consumers’ motives to post eWOM messages in a Romanian Social Media support group, which concentrates on In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedures. We identified a number of key motives (reputation, reciprocity, sense of belonging to a community, enjoyment of helping other individuals, moral obligation of helping other individuals with knowledge contribution and knowledge self-efficacy), which may explain the consumers’ intentions to post eWOM messages, as integrated in an empirical model. Using the PLS technique, we tested the model on a sample of 121 women, members of the Social Media support group. The findings revealed that 39% of the variance of the intention to post eWOM messages, was explained by reciprocity. The outcomes of this study provide important implications for both research and practice

Nowadays, many global challenges such as climate change, food security, health, industrial restructuring, and energy conservation may be solved by applying the principles of bioeconomy. Adequately implementing the principles of Bioeconomy ensures a transition from a fossil-based economy to a bio-based economy. Although in most European countries, there is clean, safe and reliable drinking water, the bottled water industry has the fastest growing rate with severe consequences for the environment. This research assesses the intentions of Romanian university students regarding single-bottled water usage by implementing a pro-environmental behavior model. As such, this study extends the existing literature on pro-environmental behavior by identifying the factors specific to the singlebottled water consumption. The model encompassed the following factors which would influence the bottled water consumption: safety and hygiene, personal benefit, locus of control, personal responsibility, health benefits, environmental concerns, knowledge of action strategies and intention to adopt a pro-environmental behavior. Using Structural Equation Modeling, we validated the pro-environmental single-bottled water consumption model on a sample of 283 university students, with the mean age of 20. The nonprobabilistic sampling method was homogenous convenience type, nonrepresentative but with the possibility to determine an ideal defined group. The findings revealed that the primary motivation of the respondents to use bottled water was safety and hygiene and they would engage in a pro-environmental behavior in using refillable bottles for drinking water. Further, the study outlined the main implications for both theory and practic

Psychological Variables Associated with HPV Vaccination Intent in Romanian Academic Settings

    No full text
The aim of this study was to evaluate (1) the female medical students’ knowledge about HPV infection; (2) the associations between the HPV vaccination intent and coping strategies, health locus of control (HLOC), and sense of coherence; and (3) the specific differences between preclinical and clinical students in terms of the vaccination intent. Participants included 1243 female medicine students (mean age = 21.526, SD = 2.007), who completed The Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLC)—Form A, the Brief COPE Scale, the Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC-13), and two questionnaires measuring the knowledge about the HPV infection and the HPV vaccination intent. Results show a good knowledge about HPV, which progressively increased during the study cycles. Still, the main contributors to vaccination intent are represented by coping strategies and health locus of control. Refusal of vaccination is associated to behavioral disengagement and the use of religion, precontemplation and contemplation to denial, and preparation to planning, positive reframing, and the powerful others component of HLOC. Sense of coherence did not predict vaccination intent. In clinical years, active coping outweighs HLOC in making the decision to get vaccinated. These results could be helpful in designing personalized strategies for addressing vaccine hesitancy in academic communities

    No full text
Optical polymers are recognized for their high transparency, raised flexibility, low cost, and good film-forming ability; hence, they introduce a multitude of benefits in a wide range of devices, such as information storage, displays, optical communications, and filters. Among the optical properties, birefringence is an essential parameter in practical cases that demand the control of the state of polarization of light. This review is focused on describing some fundamental and applicative aspects concerning the optical birefringence of the polymer materials. First, elementary notions depicting the phenomenon of light double refraction in macromolecular media are provided. Furthermore, the most relevant optical techniques to determine birefringence are reviewed by highlighting the working principle and mathematical basis for computing this parameter. Then, a series of investigations of optically birefringent polymers are described, summarizing the most utilized approaches to induce light double refraction in such materials. The selected results are analyzed in relation to the pursued applications. In the end, the future of this scientific domain is briefly presented by establishing the research paths that need further exploration. Moreover, the novel directions that could be formulated and might contribute to certain considerable advancements in the materials employed in the modern optical technologies are mentioned

    No full text
This study aimed to assess the extent of burnout in Romanian and Moldavian academic physicians and to determine the predictive value of emotional intelligence (EI), coping strategies, work motivation (WM), perceived organizational support (POS), and the socio-demographic characteristics of burnout. Two hundred physicians (40% men, 60% women, mean age = 43.02, SD = 9.91) participated in the study. They were administered the Maslach Burnout Inventory−General Survey, Brief COPE Scale, Multidimensional Work Motivation Scale, Schutte’s Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test, and Perceived Organizational Support Scale. Mann−Whitney U tests were used to assess the significance of intercountry differences, while hierarchical regressions were performed to investigate the predictive value of the independent variables on burnout. Moldavian participants had significantly lower scores in burnout and amotivation (p < 0.001) and higher scores in EI, POS, and WM (p < 0.001). The main burnout predictors were amotivation (β = 0.388, p < 0.001) and low POS (β = −0.313, p< 0.001) in Moldavian respondents, and WM (intrinsic: β = −0.620, p < 0.001; extrinsic: β = 0.406, p < 0.001) in Romanian participants. Moldavian respondents displayed better adjustment to academic stress. The distribution of burnout predictors suggests better sensitivity of respondents to organizational interventions in Moldova and to individual therapy in Romania. This data could serve to better tailor Public Health interventions addressing burnout in the academic environment
