Monitoring process for oil palm needed more precise innovation, cheap, fast and accurate technology. Before the existence of new technology, farmers used manual or traditional technique to manage their plantation area that is time and labour consuming. Remote sensing is one of the most reliable measurements tools for accurate monitoring and managing over large area. The purpose of this study is to count the oil palm tree in the plantation, to check the spacing distance between the oil palm trees and to monitor the status and obstacle in the oil palm plantation area. This study was conducted at Share Farm UiTM Jasin Melaka. Drone and Global Positioning System (GPS) were used to capture the oil palm area and to collect the coordinate of the oil palm tree. ArcGIS software 10.3 has been used in this procedure. The tree and the distance of the oil palm were measured. Based on the results, it shows that the oil palm tree area is unorganized because of some obstacles. The obstacles that has been observed is clogging water, which it resulted from the old water reservoir used to accumulate water for oil palm tree activity usage. A part from that, fallen trees and old tree is also considered as the barrier in the oil palm area. In conclusion, ArcGIS software facilitates farmers to monitor and manage their plantation field. Thus, Precision Agriculture can be recommended as a better alternative than the existing traditional method

Study of SAWDUST: Methyl Methacrylate Polymer Composite Properties

    Get PDF
In recent years, there are concerns for the production of sawdust polymer composites as there is huge amount of sawdust can be found easily and they can easily incorporated with polymers to improve the properties. However, problem arises when the properties of sawdust are influenced by many other factors such as amount of the polymer loading and size of sawdust. Furthermore, the increase demand in using sawdust composites results in a need for a better understanding of the effect of polymer loading and particle size on the characteristics of sawdust composites. So, from this study we will identify the influence of the chemically treated sawdust with polymethyl methacrylate at various particle sizes of sawdust and polymer loading. Apart of that, the research also would like to find out the mechanical and morphological properties which include moisture content, density, flexural, tensile and thickness swelling. These are vital, because we want the composite structure to be durable and to have better properties. In this work, composite materials were prepared from polymethyl methacrylate with four different size of sawdust (1.99mm ≤ x ≤ 1.18mm, 1.17mm ≤ x ≤ 0.425mm, 0.424mm ≤ x ≤ 0.212 mm and 0.211mm ≤ x ≤ 0.063mm) with three different ratio of fillers (10%, 25% and 75%). The molding method is used to prepare the specimens of sawdust composite. The mechanical properties studied include tensile and flexural strength where the dimensional stability studied includes water absorption, thickness swelling and density. The results show that the composite material had lower water absorption compared with raw sawdust. Also for the effect of filler loadings on the composite, increases amount of filler loading gives better mechanical properties to the composite but the percentage of water absorption and thickness swelling are also increases. Lastly for the effect of particle sizes on the composite, large particle size are found to give better mechanical properties, however the percentage of water absorption and thickness swelling will also increase with an increase in particle size

Black tea (Camellia sinensis) is a flavoured, functional, and therapeutic non-alcoholic drink that is consumed by two-thirds of the world’s population. In this study, the bioactive compounds in black tea leaves were extracted using two different solvents which are methanol and acetone before being further characterized with FTIR to identify the functional groups. The presence of active compounds such as gallic tannin, catecholin tannin, phenol and flavonoid compounds were further tested with qualitative and quantitative methods. Based on FTIR results, the best solvent to extract tea leaves was acetone. The frequency obtained for phenolic –OH stretch was 3390.5 cm-1, while alkane –CH3 stretch appeared at 2921.4 cm-1 and 2850.7 cm-1. The UV-Vis spectrum was obtained and the λ max from the spectrum is 270 nm. Qualitative analysis involving ferric chloride and lead acetate test showed positive results for the presence of gallic tannin, catecholin, flavonoid and phenols in the tea leaves extract. From the quantitative test, the total phenolic content was 0.9217 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/L while the concentration of flavonoid content was 0.7792 mg quercetin/L and total tannin content 0.13 g/g respectively
