Penggunaan Bibit Karet Unggul Oleh Petani Karet Di Jambi Dan Kalimantan Barat; Motivasi Dan Hambatan

The contribution of rubber to national economic and social development is important for Indonesia. However, smallholding rubber, the dominant rubber producer, has low productivity. Indonesian government has been introduced various technologies including clonal planting material to increase the productivity increase rubber production and farmers' incomes. However. This study helped to identify the main reasons, motivations and constraints that influenced a farmer's decision in Jambi and West Kalimantan to adopt or not adopt clonal rubber by using Focus GroupDiscussion (FGD) method. This study show that the main constraint in adoption for both areas was limitation of capital as the clonal rubber required more capital to establish. The other constraints are risk and uncertainties including pest and disease problems, the shortage of labour, lack of access to clonal seedlings. This study result can be used by Indonesian Government in order to encourage rubber farmers inJambi and West Kalimantan to adopt clonal rubber to increase rubber productivity as well as farmer's income

Kanker merupakan penyakit yang paling ditakuti.Hal ini disebabkan karena belum ada obat yang bisa menyembuhkannya.Tidak adanya gejala-gejala tertentu pada stadium permulaan menyebabkan penderitanya datang setelah penyakitnya sukar diobati.Di mana-mana jumlah penderita kankermeningkat.Apakah ada hubungan antara kemajuan teknologi dengan digunakannya bermacam-macam senyawa kimia baru ke dalam alam lingkungan dengan meningkatnya jumlah penderita, belumlah dapat dipastikan.Meskipun jumlah penderita kanker terus meningkat, tetapi sampai berapa jauh Perubahanini, belumlah dapat diketahui dengan pasti. Hal ini disebabkan oleh kurangnya fasilitas kesehatan, belum adanya keharusan melakukan bedah jenazah dan juga karena tidak adanya peraturan untuk melaporkan adanya penderita ini.Data yang dapat diperoleh hanyalah data relatif hasil operasi dan biopsi. Dari data inilah dapat diperkirakan macam tumor, umur dan jenis kelamin penderita, dan ini umumnya dipakai untuk dapat menduga dan menggambarkan keadaan kanker di suatu daerah secara garis besarnya

Comparative Selectivity and Catchabilty of Pot and Tube for Conger Eel (Conger Myriaster)

The objective of this experiment was to develop a method to estimate mesh selectivity of pot and comparative catchability between pot and tube for white spotted conger eel (Conger Myriaster). About ten times comparative fishing experiments were carried out off Haneda in Tokyo Bay, during October and November every year from 1997 to 2000. The experiment used collapsible pots of 5 mesh openings (21.0, 18.1, 15.5, 13.6 and 11.6 mm) and tube of 9.06 mm hole diameter as control gear. Result of this experiment indicated that pot of larger mesh size caught larger conger. Significant different was found in length distributions between the four years (ANOVA Test, P=1.9x10-45) and then the data were not combined for the analysis. In term of girth-perimeter ratio, R value of 50% retention and selection range were calculated to be 1.19 and 0.24 from estimated logistic parameters, (α,β)=(-10.67, 8.99). When catchability of tube was assumed to be 1, relative catchability of pot with 21.0, 18.1, 15.5, 13.6 and 11.6 mm mesh openings were 0.62, 0.79, 0.73, 0.63 and 0.51, respectively. This suggested that one tube could catch more conger eel than one pot and pot of larger mesh size was likely to catch of larger size more effectively

Effect of Escape Vent on Catchability and Selectivity of Pot for Black Damsel (Neoglyphidodon Melas)

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of escape vent on catch of black damsel, then sizeselectivity of escape vent will be estimated to predict the retention probability of escape vent on black damsel.The result of this study indicated that comparison of diversity index between the catches of escape vent potsand non escape vent pots were 3.07 and 3.38 respectively. Installing escape vent pots significantly impovecatch of commercial size black damsel i.e 56.6% of total catch. A Kolmogorov-Smirnov two sample testindicated that there is significant difference on the length distribution of black damsel between escape ventpots and unvented pots. The result of size selectivity curve indicated that fish size smaller than 8 cm lengthhave high probability to escape from escape vent pots. Length at 50 % retention occurs at fish length of 14.67 mm
