    The report presents testresults from a research project conceming fatigue of reinforced normal and high strength concrete beams (0.3 x 0.4 x 6.0 m). The beams were designed to have the san1e flexural and shear capacity at a point 1.5 m from the support. Two beams of each sort were tested statically to failure, and four beams of each sort were tested with a fatigue load. The fatigue load varied between 55 and 80 per cent of the static failure load. High load an1plitude resulted in shear failure and low load amplitude in flexural failure. The results from the tests indicates a slightly lower fatigue strenght, in terms of the static failure load, for high strength concrete campared to normal concrete. (Swedish

    Moisture content prediction of rain-exposed wood: Test and evaluation of a simple numerical model for durability applications

    Abstract in FrenchDecay-prediction models can be used to predict the service life of wooden components. However, knowledge of how the material climate, i.e. moisture content and material temperature, varies with time is required. A reliable material climate prediction model is therefore crucial in situations when measurements are not viable. The aim of this paper is to develop and assess the performance of a simple numerical moisture transport model for rain-exposed wood. The main focus is on the influence of rain and moisture transport in the transversal direction.First, a model based on Fick’s second law of diffusion was calibrated against laboratory measurements where wooden boards were exposed to artificial rain. Second, the model was tested against field-test measurements on wooden boards in use-class 3.1, i.e. above-ground, exposed to rain and free to dry. The influence of rain was investigated by studying the difference between sheltered and exposed specimens over time. Finally, the model was applied to a number of Swedish climates and two different decay-prediction models were used to assess the output.The main conclusion is that the influence of rain can be reproduced with sufficient accuracy for the particular application. The error between the numerical result and measurements tends to increase with decreasing temperature and at high moisture contents. However, the total error is reduced when the moisture content history is post-processed in a decay-prediction model as the rate of decay decreases with decreasing temperature

    Search for anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking with the ATLAS detector based on a disappearing-track signature in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

    In models of anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB), the lightest chargino is predicted to have a lifetime long enough to be detected in collider experiments. This letter explores AMSB scenarios in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV by attempting to identify decaying charginos which result in tracks that appear to have few associated hits in the outer region of the tracking system. The search was based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.02 fb(-1) collected with the ATLAS detector in 2011. The p(T) spectrum of candidate tracks is found to be consistent with the expectation from Standard Model background processes and constraints on the lifetime and the production cross section were obtained. In the minimal AMSB framework with m(3/2) &lt; 32 TeV, m(0) &lt; 1.5 TeV, tan beta = 5 and mu &gt; 0, a chargino having mass below 92 GeV and a lifetime between 0.5 ns and 2 ns is excluded at 95 % confidence level.ATLAS Collaboration, for complete list of authors see http://dx.doi.org/10.1140/epjc/s10052-012-1993-2</p

    Measurement of the flavour composition of dijet events in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This paper describes a measurement of the flavour composition of dijet events produced in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector. The measurement uses the full 2010 data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 39 pb(-1). Six possible combinations of light, charm and bottom jets are identified in the dijet events, where the jet flavour is defined by the presence of bottom, charm or solely light flavour hadrons in the jet. Kinematic variables, based on the properties of displaced decay vertices and optimised for jet flavour identification, are used in a multidimensional template fit to measure the fractions of these dijet flavour states as functions of the leading jet transverse momentum in the range 40 GeV to 500 GeV and jet rapidity vertical bar y vertical bar &lt; 2.1. The fit results agree with the predictions of leading-and next-to-leading-order calculations, with the exception of the dijet fraction composed of bottom and light flavour jets, which is underestimated by all models at large transverse jet momenta. The ability to identify jets containing two b-hadrons, originating from e. g. gluon splitting, is demonstrated.     Search for dark matter candidates and large extra dimensions in events with a jet and missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector

    A search for new phenomena in events with a high-energy jet and large missing transverse momentum is performed using data from proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the Large flatiron Collider. Four kinematic regions are explored using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1).     ATLAS search for new phenomena in dijet mass and angular distributions using pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

    Mass and angular distributions of dijets produced in LHC proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy root s = 7TeV have been studied with the ATLAS detector using the full 2011 data set with an integrated luminosity of 4.8 fb(-1). Dijet masses up to similar to 4.0TeV have been probed. No resonance-like features have been observed in the dijet mass spectrum, and all angular distributions are consistent with the predictions of QCD. Exclusion limits on six hypotheses of new phenomena have been set at 95% CL in terms of mass or energy scale, as appropriate. These hypotheses include excited quarks below 2.83 TeV, colour octet scalars below 1.86TeV, heavy W bosons below 1.68 TeV, string resonances below 3.61 TeV, quantum black holes with six extra space-time dimensions for quantum gravity scales below 4.11 TeV, and quark contact interactions below a compositeness scale of 7.6 TeV in a destructive interference scenario.ATLAS Collaboration, for complete list of authors see http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/JHEP01(2013)029</p

    Search for the neutral Higgs bosons of the minimal supersymmetric standard model in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    A search for neutral Higgs bosons of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is reported. The analysis is based on a sample of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The data were recorded in 2011 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1) to 4.8 fb(-1). Higgs boson decays into oppositely-charged in muon or tau lepton pairs are considered for final states requiring either the presence or absence of b-jets. No statistically significant excess over the expected background is observed and exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level are derived. The exclusion limits are for the production cross-section of a generic neutral Higgs boson, phi, as a function of the Higgs boson mass and for h/A/H production in the MSSM as a function of the parameters m(A) and tan beta in the m(h)(max) scenario for m(A) in the range of 90 GeV to 500 GeV.ATLAS Collaboration, for complete list of authors see http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/JHEP02(2013)095</p

    Measurement of the cross-section for W boson production in association with b-jets in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This paper reports a measurement of the W+b-jets (W+b+X and W+b (b) over bar +X) production cross-section in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC. These results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1), collected with the ATLAS detector. Cross-sections are presented as a function of jet multiplicity and of the transverse momentum of the leading b-jet for both the muon and electron decay modes of the W boson. The W+b-jets cross-section, corrected for all known detector effects, is quoted in a limited kinematic range. Combining the muon and electron channels, the fiducial cross-section for W+b-jets is measured to be 7.1 +/- 0.5 (stat) +/- 1.4 (syst) pb, consistent with the next-to-leading order QCD prediction, corrected for non-perturbative and double-parton interactions (DPI) contributions, of 4.70 +/- 0.09 (stat) (+0.60)(-0.49) (scale) +/- 0.06 (PDF) +/- 0.16 (non-pert) (+0.52)(-0.38) (DPI) pb.ATLAS Collaboration, for complete list of authors see http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/JHEP06(2013)084</p
