Impact of small hydro generation on voltage profile and losses in 20 kV distribution network
Abstract
Planning in the development of electricity availability focuses on Renewable Energy power plants in support of the Government’s strong determination to suppress fossil-based energy and increase in New Renewable Energy whose mix is targeted to reach 23% in 2025. Distributed generation (DG) is one of the new approach in the installation of power plants which the plant location is no longer centralized, but it was spread on the distribution of electricity networks. Nowadays, the application of distributed generation has increased because it is a renewable energy especially small hydro of distributed power plants can affect the conditions of the distribution network. Therefore, it is necessary to know the impact of the installation of distributed power plants. This study was conducted to analyze the effects of DG connected to network at two conditions First, the distributed generation connect when under load condition in network and second, distributed generation connect when peak load condition in network. Simulation in this study was conducted using the ETAP software and The Newton-Raphson method has been used in order to calculate power losses and voltages across the network with real data of rural distribution network in Tanah Jawa, North Sumatera, Indonesia. The 20kV distribution network was used in this feeder, and it was divided into one main feeder. The results of this study are expected to provide information about the impact of the DG on voltage and power losses in distribution network. The results of the study show that the installation of DG enhances the voltage profile and ready for installation Small Hydro as DG.</jats:p

Serious and fatal illness associated with falciparum and vivax malaria among patients admitted to hospital at West Sumba in eastern Indonesia.
Records of 3,449 patients admitted to Karitas Hospital at Waitabula in eastern Indonesia with microscopy-confirmed malaria through 2008 and 2009 were systematically reviewed. Falciparum, vivax, and mixed species malaria occurred among 1,541, 1,837, and 71 admissions, respectively. Among these, 400 (26%), 199 (11%), and 15 (21%) had serious illness. Fatalities occurred in 46 (12%), 18 (9%), and 2 (13%) of these patients, respectively. Although patients with a diagnosis of falciparum malaria were more likely to have serious illness compared with those with vivax malaria (odds ratio [OR] = 2.9; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.4-3.5), this diagnosis nonetheless was associated with 32% of serious illness and 27% of fatalities. Among the seriously ill with a diagnosis of falciparum or vivax malaria, no significant difference in risk of death occurred (OR = 1.3; 95% CI: 0.7-2.5). Serious and fatal illness was predominantly anemia or altered mental state syndromes among patients with either of the species diagnoses. Plasmodium vivax was associated with a substantial share of the burden of morbidity and mortality caused by malaria in this hypo- to meso-endemic community

Solar Powered Water Pump Prototype
21st International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2010 berlangsung pada 14 - 16 Mei 2010 di Pusat Konvensyen Kuala Lumpur (KLCC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.Photovoltaic (PV) water pumping powered by PV application is one of the most common used throughout the world. However, the solar energy application is not widely been used in Malaysia. Improving in paddy production was one of the Department of Agriculture Malaysia (DoA) scheme since the rice price has increase. DoA targets to improve the paddy production from 2.30 million ton in 2007 to 2.95 million ton in 2010. The target was contributed to improve the productivity from 3.8 ton/ha in 2007 to 4.58 ton/ha in 2010. Modernization of outside granary area program was include in Rancangan Malaysia ke-9 (RMk9) to improve the paddy production from 2.8 ton/ha to 4 ton/ha. Trough this scheme, solar water pump can be an initiative to improve the paddy production by controlling the water reservoir and paddy field water level
