On the particle paths and the stagnation points in small-amplitude deep-water waves
In order to obtain quite precise information about the shape of the particle
paths below small-amplitude gravity waves travelling on irrotational deep
water, analytic solutions of the nonlinear differential equation system
describing the particle motion are provided. All these solutions are not closed
curves. Some particle trajectories are peakon-like, others can be expressed
with the aid of the Jacobi elliptic functions or with the aid of the
hyperelliptic functions. Remarks on the stagnation points of the
small-amplitude irrotational deep-water waves are also made.Comment: to appear in J. Math. Fluid Mech. arXiv admin note: text overlap with

Substitution induced pinning in MgB_2 superconductor doped with SiC nano-particles
By doping MgB_2 superconductor with SiC nano-particles, we have successfully
introduced pinning sites directly into the crystal lattice of MgB_2 grains
(intra-grain pinning). It became possible due to the combination of
counter-balanced Si and C co-substitution for B, leading to a large number of
intra-granular dislocations and the dispersed nano-size impurities induced by
the substitution. The magnetic field dependence of the critical current density
was significantly improved in a wide temperature range, whereas the transition
temperature in the sample MgB_2(SiC)_x having x = 0.34, the highest doping
level prepared, dropped only by 2.6 K.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure
Generators of simple Lie algebras in arbitrary characteristics
In this paper we study the minimal number of generators for simple Lie
algebras in characteristic 0 or p > 3. We show that any such algebra can be
generated by 2 elements. We also examine the 'one and a half generation'
property, i.e. when every non-zero element can be completed to a generating
pair. We show that classical simple algebras have this property, and that the
only simple Cartan type algebras of type W which have this property are the
Zassenhaus algebras.Comment: 26 pages, final version, to appear in Math. Z. Main improvements and

Nonperturbative QED Processes at ELI-NP
The present paper analyses the current results and pursuits the main steps
required for the design of SF-QED experiments at High-Power Laser System (HPLS)
of ELI-NP in Magurele, Romania. After a brief analysis of the first experiment
(E-144 SLAC), which confirmed the existence of non-linear QED interactions of
the high energy electrons with the photons of a laser beam, we went on to
present fundamental QED processes possible to be studied at ELI-NP in a
multi-photon regime. The kinematics and characteristic parameters of the laser
beam interacting with electrons were presented. In the preparation of an
experiment at ELI-NP, the analysis of the kinematics and dynamics of the
non-linear QED interaction processes with the physical vacuum are required.
Initially, the linear QED processes and the corresponding Feynman diagrams that
allow to determine the amplitude of these processes are reviewed. Based on
these amplitudes, the cross sections of the processes can be obtained. For
multi-photon interactions it is necessary to adapt the technique of Feynman
diagrams from linear QED processes to the non-linear ones, by moving to the
quantum field description with dressed Dirac-Volkov states, for particles in
intense EM field. They then allow evaluation of the amplitude of the physical
processes and ultimately the determination of the corresponding cross section.
The SF-QED processes of multi-photon interactions with strong laser fields, can
be done taking into account the characteristics of the existing facilities at
ELI-NP in the context of the experimental production of electron-positron-pairs
and of energetic gamma-rays. We show also some upcoming experiments similar to
ours, in various stages of preparation.Comment: Presented at Bucharest University Meeting 2023

Superconductivity, critical current density, and flux pinning in MgB_{2-x}(SiC)_{x/2} superconductor after SiC nanoparticle doping
We investigated the effect of SiC nano-particle doping on the crystal lattice
structure, critical temperature T_c, critical current density J_c, and flux
pinning in MgB_2 superconductor. A series of MgB_{2-x}(SiC)_{x/2} samples with
x = 0 to 1.0 were fabricated using in-situ reaction process. The contraction of
the lattice and depression of T_c with increasing SiC doping level remained
rather small due to the counter-balanced effect of Si and C co-doping. The high
level Si and C co-doping allowed the creation of intra-grain defects and highly
dispersed nano-inclusions within the grains which can act as effective pinning
centers for vortices, improving J_c behavior as a function of the applied
magnetic field. The enhanced pinning is mainly attributable to the
substitution-induced defects and a local structure fluctuations within grains.
A pinning mechanism is proposed to account for different contributions of
different defects in MgB_{2-x}(SiC)_{x/2} superconductors.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure
Quartz crystal microbalance genosensing of brettanomyces bruxellensis yeast in wine using a rapid and efficient drop and collect protocol
A miniaturized quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) genosensor is proposed for sensitive and real-time detection of short ssDNA sequences (53 bp) or DNA extracted from Brettanomyces bruxellensis (Brett) yeast cells. The presence of Brett yeast causes a depreciation of the quality of aged fine wines, producing molecules of unpleasant odors and biogenic amines that are harmful to human health. More specifically, standard quartz crystal (S-QCM) and homemade 4 nm gold transmission electron microscopy (TEM)-grid patterned quartz (multi-TEM QCM) are herein proposed for biofunctionalization steps with different ssDNA sequences. By employing a rapid and efficient drop and collect protocol, the specific detection of 1 pg/\ub5L ssDNA Brett of a short sequence and 100 ng/\ub5L DNA of B. bruxellensis extracted from a wine sample (VR2008) is reported
Acoustic multi-detection of Gliadin using QCM crystals patterned with controlled sectors of tem grid and annealed Nanoislands on gold electrode
Celiac diseases are a group of gluten ingestion-correlated pathologies that are widespread and, in some cases, very dangerous for human health. The only effective treatment is the elimination of gluten from the diet throughout life. Nowadays, the food industries are very interested in cheap, easy-to-handle methods for detecting gluten in food, in order to provide their consumers with safe and high-quality food. Here, for the first time, the manufacture of controlled micropatterns of annealed gold nanoislands (AuNIs) on a single QCM crystal (QCM-color) and their biofunctionalization for the specific detection of traces of gliadin is reported. In addition, the modified quartz crystal with a TEM grid and 30 nm Au (Q-TEM grid crystal) is proposed as an acoustic sensitive biosensing platform for the rapid screening of the gliadin content in real food products
