The Intermedia MFA Program are requesting funds to help support a fall lecture series. All of the visiting artists proposed in our Fall lecture series will publicly share their expertise in the following areas: an evening public lecture with question and answer period to follow, classroom visits and direct one-on-one student meetings and/or critiques. Each of the featured artists has been selected because of the quality and engaging nature of their work. The artists\u27 desire to interact with the students, in a learning environment and to engender excitement about the arts on Campus was another qualiffing factor in their selection. The Fall Intermedia Lecture Series has many benefits to the University of Maine and the local community. Some academic programs that will directly benefit from the lecture series include: Music, Theatre, English, Film Studies, Sculpture, Art and Performing Art. The contributions of the Visiting Artist Speaker Program include, but are not limited to: exposure to distinguished and contemporary artists, educationally beneficial engagement opportunities, and interaction with professionals from a variety of ethnic, cultural, and critical backgrounds
Fall 2015 Visiting Researchers and Artists Series
The New Media Department and Intermedia MFA Program are requesting funding to help support a fall lecture series. The following visiting researchers and artists will share their expertise in the following areas: an evening lecture with a question and answer period to follow, classroom visits, direct one-on-one student meetings and/or critiques and performances or other public presentations. The artists have been selected because of the quality and engaging nature of their work. The artists\u27 desire to interact with the students in a learning environment and to engender excitement about the arts on campus was another qualifying factor in their selection
HPSCHD-Public Performance
The presentation, as yet untitled, will be based on the seminal media-based performance piece HPSCHD by John Cage and Lejaren Hiller and will be overseen by faculty member Nate Aldrich as part of the IMFA with technical and facilities support from Joe Donovan and David Adkins in Theatre. The presentation will be open and free of charge to the University.community and is intended to provide an important nexus for the arts across several disciplines (Art, Theater, Music, New Media), for the IMFA program in its first year, campus-based contemporary arts in general and the University and surrounding communities as a whole
Conjunction, Without Borders VI: Contemporary Art Festival
Conjunctions, is the sixth iteration of the annual exhibition and festival, Without Borders Contemporary Arts Festival. The exhibition will take place in the Lord Hall Galleries from August through September of 2009. Presenting the work of UMaine Intermedia MFA graduate students as well as collaborating artists from around the country, this series highlights a wide range of work focused on exploring the spaces between culture, art, science, and technology. The festival will focus on artistic forms that utilize technology and analog materials and processes in either production or presentation of the work. It will include a main exhibition centered around a variety of digital forms, installation sculptures, photos, prints, and various conceptual forms that are produced through collaborative processes, as well as performances, live music and video screenings, all of which serve to create a daily fertile exchange of creative ideas and artistic explorations

Karen Montanaro is a solo performer, an award-winning choreographer, and the innovator of mimedance (the fusion of two classical art forms). Karen studied ballet at the Cantarella School of Dance, the Ram Island Dance Center and on scholarship with the Joffrey Ballet School. She danced professionally with the Ohio Ballet and the Darmstadt Opera Ballet in Germany, Upon moving back to the Unites States, Karen also danced principal roles with the Portland Ballet Company. For more than a decade, Karen toured and taught internationally with mime master, Tony Montanaro. She currently tours the world with her one-woman show entitled Tanzspiel. Ms, Montanaro is a teaching artist and offers residencies in movement, mime and dance in public and private schools throughout the United States. www.mimedance.co
