The thesis explores and examines the role of dynamic managerial capabilities as they apply to the international student recruitment efforts at The United Kingdom Higher Education Institutions (UK HEIs). Although dynamic capabilities literature has attracted a fair amount of attention, the relationship between the dynamic managerial capabilities and firm performance have been under-explored in prior research, in particular in the context of UK HEIs. This study affords an opportunity to forge a link between theory and practice. The study takes a mixed methods research approach to data collection. First, a large panel data set was acquired from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). The dataset was refined by focusing on 100 UK HEIs with students from 100 countries studying within 15 subject disciplines. This is then substantiated with research, student employability and student satisfaction rankings data. Furthermore, a survey of middle to senior managers responsible for internationalisation from 165 UK HEIs produced a response rate of 20% (n = 31). Fourth, a large British university is selected for interviews and qualitative data collection. Middle to senior managers were interviewed using semi-structured interviews (n = 10) to assess how they sense the need for change and to determine some of the mechanisms used in opportunity recognition and capture. While the results confirm the importance of resource-based explanations when assessing the performance of UK HEIs. In that founding history, university rankings, reputation and location are key determinants, especially for the Russell Group universities. The results indicate that dynamic managerial capabilities, as latent variables, are also important. Within-group performance differences exist despite the degree of resource parity. Evidence was mixed in respect of the effectiveness of dynamic managerial capabilities in the international function; with some respondents claiming that intervention from senior management teams is often limited in their effect. The thesis is one of a small but growing number of empirical studies on dynamic managerial capabilities. In keeping with other studies in this emerging field, it has had to face several methodological challenges. The mixed methods approach is used as one means of meeting some of these challenges

Purpose: Recent media reports of money laundering through fake bank accounts implicate the involvement of banks in money laundering through "managed bank accounts". Further the waivers of loan of apparently sound institutions also give rise to specific questions and reservations on the role of banks. This paper attempts to explore the answer to those fundamental questions. Design/Methodology/Approach: The research follows qualitative content analysis methods to critically analyze the role of banks in money laundering and loan waiver policies. Findings: The research finds that despite of heavy banking regulations and laws the banking accounts are being used for money laundering. Further, the research concludes that the act of waiving off loans allegedly has provided a channel to misuse the public earned money, resulting in gross loss to the public exchequer. Implications/Originality/Value: The research concludes that the role of bank in maintaining the fake/idle accounts and the loan waiver policy and its malafide usage in the banking sector resulted in financial frauds and money laundering in Pakista

The intent of this study was to evaluate the organizational structure, administrative frame work and facilities related to selection criteria ofĀ Ā  Sports Authority of India, Eastern region, Kolkata. The sample of the present study was drawn randomly from the administrator, coaches and players of the SAI, Eastern region. The size of the sample was 300 comprising 200 players, 60 coaches or sports-experts and 40 administrators.Ā  At the outset survey procedure was adopted for collecting data by using extensive questionnaire on administrators, coaches and players of SAIĀ  Eastern region. The data thus collected were tabulated and put to statistical treatment. In a view of the spelled study and nature of the data,ā€˜tā€™ test was employed to explore the difference among the assorted categories of subjects on various items of organization, administration and facilities. And ā€œKruskal-Wallisā€ test was also applied. It is non-parametric technique, which is commonly referred as one-way analysis of various ranks

Flow-Aware Elephant Flow Detection for Software-Defined Networks

    Get PDF
Software-defined networking (SDN) separates the network control plane from the packet forwarding plane, which provides comprehensive network-state visibility for better network management and resilience. Traffic classification, particularly for elephant flow detection, can lead to improved flow control and resource provisioning in SDN networks. Existing elephant flow detection techniques use pre-set thresholds that cannot scale with the changes in the traffic concept and distribution. This paper proposes a flow-aware elephant flow detection applied to SDN. The proposed technique employs two classifiers, each respectively on SDN switches and controller, to achieve accurate elephant flow detection efficiently. Moreover, this technique allows sharing the elephant flow classification tasks between the controller and switches. Hence, most mice flows can be filtered in the switches, thus avoiding the need to send large numbers of classification requests and signaling messages to the controller. Experimental findings reveal that the proposed technique outperforms contemporary methods in terms of the running time, accuracy, F-measure, and recall

Tabiā€˜at (Physis) - A Distinction of Unani Medicine

Certain theories lie at the core of Unani (Greco-Arab) system of medicine providing it a solid foundation. Of these, the prominent ones and widely known are temperamental and humoral theories. But, the one that outshines it from other pathies is the concept of Tabā€˜iat, which believes that every human body carries its real healer within itself and the role of physician is merely of a supporter. Tabā€˜iat is the supreme controlling power of the body that governs all body functions and for this purpose it requires some medium at different levels of body organization. These media are basically the structure and temperament of the organs concerned. In this paper, it is aimed to present a comprehensive concept about tabā€˜iat, its function and tools

Introduction: Recent advances in ERCP techniques are developed to improve its efficacy and safety but there are limited data regarding the efficacy and safety of ERCP carried out in secondary care hospital setting using modern techniques. Objective: To perform a clinical audit of ERCP of patients performed in secondary care hospital.  Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study conducted at the Department of Gastroenterology hospital, Lahore from Jan 2018 - Dec 2018. After approval from the ethical committee and informed consent from subjects, detailed demographic information was collected and entered into a structured questionnaire. A total of 66 ERCP were included in the study by non-probability consecutive sampling. Data was analyzed in SPSS ver: 21.0. Frequency and percentages were calculated for qualitative variables like gender and diagnosis and complications. Results: A total of 66 ERCP were performed. The mean age of patients was 57.35 + 12.30. 36.4% were male and 63.6% were female in our study. 53.0% had malignant ERCP findings and 47.0% had benign pathology. Among malignant conditions were proximal CBD malignant strictures (25.8%), distal CBD stricture with ampullary growth (9.0%), distal malignant CBD stricture (6.0%), long distal malignant CBD stricture (9.0%), and complete malignant obstruction mid CBD (3.1%). Conclusion: The ERCP services provided at secondary care hospital are standardized with a desirable outcome. The rate of its technical success is comparable to tertiary care setting and complication rates are low alone with mortality related to the procedure
