For many years, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC depots at different locations around the country have suffered severe product shortages due to the nefarious activities of the vandals, who destroy the pipelines feeding the facilities, however, frequent petrol tanker explosion in the recent times, has adversely affected the supply of the products. Apart from the loss of lives and property and its negative effects on ecosystem, the two activities have made the consumption of the products almost impossible. The study looks into petrol tanker disaster and pipeline vandalization and their impacts on regional development. It employs social learning theory as basis of its theoretical underpinnings. The study examines the causes and consequences of the activities and finds out that the activities have negative effects on development. It therefore recommends appropriate suggestions for its remedies. The study will be of great help to researchers and government agencies. The study examines the level of community involvement in cultural tourism and how it affects the sustainability of the tourism industry in Ekiti State, Nigeria. It employs the theory of demand and supply and the consumer culture theory as the basis for its theoretical underpinning. Samples were taken from the six communities in six local government areas randomly picked from the three senatorial districts in the study area. The questionnaire served as instruments for the work thus, four hundred and twenty (420) questionnaires containing closed-ended questions were administered on the population. The data collected were subjected to both descriptive and inferential analysis. This involved the use of tables and charts to analyse the data collected, it also employed the use of chi-square (x 2 ) analytical method to test the hypothesis. Results show that communities have not been actively involved in developmental projects and this neglect, however, has reduced the morale of inhabitants in participating in cultural activities. Also, government has not been actively involved in the cultural tourism sector, focus and emphasis had been placed on eco-tourism thereby, neglecting the cultural aspects of tourism. The study suggests a bottom-top approach towards cultural activities, i.e. inhabitants who are the custodian of the culture should be carried along in any of the developmental projects. They should also be sensitized on the benefits involve in sustaining these cultural entities and how it can help in rejuvenating tourism, which will in turn, serve as tools for regional development in the study area. The study will be of high relevance to the policy makers and will provide points of reference for researchers and academics

This study reviews the incidence and severity of poverty as it relates to tourism in Nigeria. It examines the causes and effects of tourism and how it affects tourism participation. The study employs the Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs as its basis for theoretical underpinning. The study relied on secondary data and literatures for its review. The study found out that the major reasons for underdevelopment in the area is neglect of the tourism sector of the country which in turn caused many more people to become poorer. It recommends that government should diversify and work on tourism potentials especially in host communities which are majorly rural areas. This in turn is expected to alleviate poverty in the communities. It is expected that this work will be useful for the purpose of politicking and making policies that will better the life of the poor
