    Construyendo dominios de encuentro para problematizar acerca de las prácticas pedagógicas de profesores secundarios de Ciencias: Incorporando el modelo de Investigación-Acción como plan de formación continua

    Frente a la actual crisis de la educación científica, la capacidad docente de transformar sus prácticas para mejorar el logro de aprendizajes parece ser fundamental. Los programas de formación docente continua tradicionales, generalmente prescriptivos y descontextualizados del aula, han tenido bajo impacto en los procesos de transformación de las prácticas docentes. El presente trabajo describe la primera fase de un programa de formación continua consistente en la construcción de dominios de encuentro entre el saber académico generado en la Universidad y el saber profesional de 16 profesores secundarios de Ciencias a través de un proceso de investigación-acción conjunta, basado en el trabajo colaborativo, la reflexión y la retroalimentación. Los resultados dan cuenta de la complejidad de generar significados comunes, los que una vez logrados, permiten fortalecer el razonamiento científico, la autoeficacia y conformación de una comunidad de aprendizaje que posibilita una actitud indagatoria hacia sus prácticas en Ciencias. / Considering the current scientific education crisis, teachers' capacity to transform their practice in order to improve learning achievement seems fundamental. The traditional programs of continuous professional development, generally prescriptive and uncontextualized from the classroom, have had a low impact on processes of teachers' practice transformation. This work describes the first stage of continuous development program, consisting on building encounter domains between the academic knowledge of Universities, and professional knowledge of 16 secondary science teachers, through a joint action-research process, based on collaborative work, reflection and feedback. The results show the complexity of building shared sense which, once achieved, allows strong scientific reasoning, self-efficacy and the construction of a learning community facilitating an inquiry-driven attitude towards their science teaching practice

    RESUMEN: El presente trabajo refiere los resultados de un estudio cualitativo cuyo objetivo fue describir y comprender las prácticas de seis docentes de ciencia en Educación Secundaria que han logrado transformar su enseñanza, aproximándose a un enfoque indagatorio. El enfoque metodológico empleado fue Grounded Theory, el cual se aplicó a la observación de 54 horas (cr.) de clase. El estudio aporta con información descriptiva y comprensiva sobre las características de las prácticas observadas, así como las condiciones que las permiten y las consecuencias que conllevan. Se finaliza discutiendo el impacto que este estudio tiene sobre la formación inicial y continua de docentes de ciencia de Educación Secundaria. ABSTRACT: This research refers the results of a qualitative study which purpose was to describe and understand the teaching practices of six secondary science teachers who have transformed their teaching practice by applying an inquiry approach. The method used was Grounded Theory applied to the observation of 54 class hours (cr.). This research contributes with descriptive and comprehensive information about characteristics of the observed practices, as well as the conditions that allow them and their consequences.     Particle Production and Effective Thermalization in Inhomogeneous Mean Field Theory

    As a toy model for dynamics in nonequilibrium quantum field theory we consider the abelian Higgs model in 1+1 dimensions with fermions. In the approximate dynamical equations, inhomogeneous classical (mean) Bose fields are coupled to quantized fermion fields, which are treated with a mode function expansion. The effective equations of motion imply e.g. Coulomb scattering, due to the inhomogeneous gauge field. The equations are solved numerically. We define time dependent fermion particle numbers with the help of the single-time Wigner function and study particle production starting from inhomogeneous initial conditions. The particle numbers are compared with the Fermi-Dirac distribution parametrized by a time dependent temperature and chemical potential.     Mixing of magnetic and phononic excitations in incommensurate Spin-Peierls systems

    We analyze the excitation spectra of a spin-phonon coupled chain in the presence of a soliton. This is taken as a microscopic model of a Spin-Peierls material placed in a high magnetic field. We show, by using a semiclassical approximation in the bosonized representation of the spins that a trapped magnetic state obtained in the adiabatic approximation is destroyed by dynamical phonons. Low energy states are phonons trapped by the soliton. When the magnetic gap is smaller than the phonon frequencies the only low energy state is a mixed magneto-phonon state with the energy of the gap.     A Grand Canonical Ensemble Approach to the Thermodynamic Properties of the Nucleon in the Quark-Gluon Coupling Model

    In this paper, we put forward a way to study the nucleon's thermodynamic properties such as its temperature, entropy and so on, without inputting any free parameters by human hand, even the nucleon's mass and radius. First we use the Lagrangian density of the quark gluon coupling fields to deduce the Dirac Equation of the quarks confined in the gluon fields. By boundary conditions we solve the wave functions and energy eigenvalues of the quarks, and thus get energy-momentum tensor, nucleon mass, and density of states. Then we utilize a hybrid grand canonical ensemble, to generate the temperature and chemical potentials of quarks, antiquarks of three flovars by the four conservation laws of the energy and the valence quark numbers, after which, all other thermodynamic properties are known. The only seemed free paremeter, the nucleon radius is finally determined by the grand potential minimal principle.Comment: 5 pages, LaTe

    Stochastic Production Of Kink-Antikink Pairs In The Presence Of An Oscillating Background

    We numerically investigate the production of kink-antikink pairs in a (1+1)(1+1) dimensional ϕ4\phi^4 field theory subject to white noise and periodic driving. The twin effects of noise and periodic driving acting in conjunction lead to considerable enhancement in the kink density compared to the thermal equilibrium value, for low dissipation coefficients and for a specific range of frequencies of the oscillating background. The dependence of the kink-density on the temperature of the heat bath, the amplitude of the oscillating background and value of the dissipation coefficient is also investigated.     Formation of topological defects in gauge field theories

    When a symmetry gets spontaneously broken in a phase transition, topological defects are typically formed. The theoretical picture of how this happens in a breakdown of a global symmetry, the Kibble-Zurek mechanism, is well established and has been tested in various condensed matter experiments. However, from the viewpoint of particle physics and cosmology, gauge field theories are more relevant than global theories. In recent years, there have been significant advances in the theory of defect formation in gauge field theories, which make precise predictions possible, and in experimental techniques that can be used to test these predictions in superconductor experiments. This opens up the possibility of carrying out relatively simple and controlled experiments, in which the non-equilibrium phase transition dynamics of gauge field theories can be studied. This will have a significant impact on our understanding of phase transitions in the early universe and in heavy ion collider experiments.     Nonequilibrium Evolution of Correlation Functions: A Canonical Approach

    We study nonequilibrium evolution in a self-interacting quantum field theory invariant under space translation only by using a canonical approach based on the recently developed Liouville-von Neumann formalism. The method is first used to obtain the correlation functions both in and beyond the Hartree approximation, for the quantum mechanical analog of the ϕ4\phi^{4} model. The technique involves representing the Hamiltonian in a Fock basis of annihilation and creation operators. By separating it into a solvable Gaussian part involving quadratic terms and a perturbation of quartic terms, it is possible to find the improved vacuum state to any desired order. The correlation functions for the field theory are then investigated in the Hartree approximation and those beyond the Hartree approximation are obtained by finding the improved vacuum state corrected up to O(λ2){\cal O}(\lambda^2). These correlation functions take into account next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-leading order effects in the coupling constant. We also use the Heisenberg formalism to obtain the time evolution equations for the equal-time, connected correlation functions beyond the leading order. These equations are derived by including the connected 4-point functions in the hierarchy. The resulting coupled set of equations form a part of infinite hierarchy of coupled equations relating the various connected n-point functions.     The Changing Landscape for Stroke\ua0Prevention in AF: Findings From the GLORIA-AF Registry Phase 2

    Background GLORIA-AF (Global Registry on Long-Term Oral Antithrombotic Treatment in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation) is a prospective, global registry program describing antithrombotic treatment patterns in patients with newly diagnosed nonvalvular atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke. Phase 2 began when dabigatran, the first non\u2013vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant (NOAC), became available. Objectives This study sought to describe phase 2 baseline data and compare these with the pre-NOAC era collected during phase 1. Methods During phase 2, 15,641 consenting patients were enrolled (November 2011 to December 2014); 15,092 were eligible. This pre-specified cross-sectional analysis describes eligible patients\u2019 baseline characteristics. Atrial fibrillation disease characteristics, medical outcomes, and concomitant diseases and medications were collected. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results Of the total patients, 45.5% were female; median age was 71 (interquartile range: 64, 78) years. Patients were from Europe (47.1%), North America (22.5%), Asia (20.3%), Latin America (6.0%), and the Middle East/Africa (4.0%). Most had high stroke risk (CHA2DS2-VASc [Congestive heart failure, Hypertension, Age  6575 years, Diabetes mellitus, previous Stroke, Vascular disease, Age 65 to 74 years, Sex category] score  652; 86.1%); 13.9% had moderate risk (CHA2DS2-VASc = 1). Overall, 79.9% received oral anticoagulants, of whom 47.6% received NOAC and 32.3% vitamin K antagonists (VKA); 12.1% received antiplatelet agents; 7.8% received no antithrombotic treatment. For comparison, the proportion of phase 1 patients (of N = 1,063 all eligible) prescribed VKA was 32.8%, acetylsalicylic acid 41.7%, and no therapy 20.2%. In Europe in phase 2, treatment with NOAC was more common than VKA (52.3% and 37.8%, respectively); 6.0% of patients received antiplatelet treatment; and 3.8% received no antithrombotic treatment. In North America, 52.1%, 26.2%, and 14.0% of patients received NOAC, VKA, and antiplatelet drugs, respectively; 7.5% received no antithrombotic treatment. NOAC use was less common in Asia (27.7%), where 27.5% of patients received VKA, 25.0% antiplatelet drugs, and 19.8% no antithrombotic treatment. Conclusions The baseline data from GLORIA-AF phase 2 demonstrate that in newly diagnosed nonvalvular atrial fibrillation patients, NOAC have been highly adopted into practice, becoming more frequently prescribed than VKA in Europe and North America. Worldwide, however, a large proportion of patients remain undertreated, particularly in Asia and North America. We report a case of air sac nematode (Serratospiculum tendo) infection in an adult male Austral Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus cassini) admitted to a rehabilitation center in Mendoza Province, Argentina, in September 2017. This case of air sac nematodes reported in an Argentine raptor is only the second report of S. tendo in South America. We recommend examination of all raptors, especially those falcon species that include insects in their diet and inhabit open lands and those in rehabilitation centers or kept for falconry, education, or captive breeding. Fecal analysis and microscopic examination of oral swabs for evidence of parasites are simple noninvasive diagnostic procedures that allow easy detection of these parasites under field and captive circumstances.
