Experimental Demonstration of Adaptive Quantum State Estimation

Get PDF
The first experimental demonstration of an adaptive quantum state estimation (AQSE) is reported. The strong consistency and asymptotic efficiency of AQSE have been mathematically proven [ A. Fujiwara J. Phys. A 39 12489 (2006)]. In this Letter, the angle of linear polarization of single photons, the phase parameter between the right and the left circularly polarization, is estimated using AQSE, and the strong consistency and asymptotic efficiency are experimentally verified. AQSE will provide a general useful method in both quantum information processing and metrology.Comment: 5pages, 4figure

Physiological and Biochemical Characterization of Three Nucleoside Diphosphate Kinase Isozymes from Rice (Oryza sativaL.)

Nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDPK) is a ubiquitous enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of the γ-phosphoryl group from a nucleoside triphosphate to a nucleoside diphosphate. In this study, we examined the subcellular localization, tissue-specific gene expression, and enzymatic characteristics of three rice NDPK isozymes (OsNDPK1-OsNDPK3). Sequence comparison of the three OsNDPKs suggested differential subcellular localization. Transient expression of green fluorescence protein-fused proteins in onion cells indicated that OsNDPK2 and OsNDPK3 are localized to plastid and mitochondria respectively, while OsNDPK1 is localized to the cytosol. Expression analysis indicated that all the OsNDPKs are expressed in the leaf, leaf sheath, and immature seeds, except for OsNDPK1, in the leaf sheath. Recombinant OsNDPK2 and OsNDPK3 showed lower optimum pH and higher stability under acidic pH than OsNDPK1. In ATP formation, all the OsNDPKs displayed lower K(m) values for the second substrate, ADP, than for the first substrate, NTP, and showed lowest and highest K(m) values for GTP and CTP respectively

Finding Useful Detours in Geographical Databases

Get PDF
In geographical databases for navigation, users raise various types of queries concerning route guidance. The most fundamental query is a shortest-route query, but, as dynamical traffic information newly becomes available and the static geographical database of roads itself has grown up further, more flexible queries are required to realize a user-friendly interface meeting the current settings. One important query among them is a detour query which provides information about detours, say listing several candidates for useful detours. This paper first reviews algorithms for the shortest and k shortest paths, and discusses their extensions to detour queries. Algorithms for finding a realistic detour are given. The efficiency and property of the algorithms are examined through experiments on an actual road network.PAPE

多発性硬化症における髄液中Guanase活性

Thirty-eight CSF specimens obtained from 33 patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) (20 definite, 18 probable; 20 active, 18 inactive) were subjected to the measurement of guanase activity, cell count and concentrations of total protein and Ig G. There was no difference in cell count and total protein concentration between MS and normal controls (n=14). The guanase activity, however, was significantly higher in MS as compared with normal controls (p<0.05). In addition, active MS revealed significantly elevated guanase activity, total protein and Ig G as compared with inactive MS (p<0.05). Serial guanase determinations together with Kurtzke\u27s expanded disability status scales in 5 MS patients supported the idea that CSF guanase activity reflects the disease activity more appropriately than other parameters in CSF

Association of fatty liver with increased ratio of visceral to subcutaneous adipose tissue in obese men.

We studied the association of fatty liver with subcutaneous and visceral obesity in 46 male and 36 female patients with body mass index (BMI) over 22 kg/m2. The correlation coefficient between the ratio of the visceral adipose tissue to the subcutaneous adipose tissue (V/S) and the computed tomography (CT) number of the liver was -0.299 (P < 0.05) and that between the V/S ratio and the ratio of the CT number of the liver to that of the spleen (CT-L/CT-S) was -0.335 (P < 0.05) in the males. Partial correlation analysis after making correction for BMI showed an increased correlation coefficient of -0.485 (P < 0.05) between the V/S ratio and the CT-L/CT-S ratio in the males. The odds ratio in the males for CT-L/CT-S below 1.0 and V/S above 1.0 was 3.25 with a 95% confidence interval of 1.02 to 9.39. No such association between the V/S ratio and the CT-L/CT-S ratio was present in the female patients. Multiple regression analysis with serum level of alanine aminotransferase, a marker of fatty liver, as an independent variable revealed a partial regression coefficient of -17.7 for CT-L/CT-S (P < 0.05) in the males and -21.7 (P < 0.05) in the females, validating the CT-L/CT-S ratio as an index of fatty liver. The results indicate the association of fatty liver as determined by the CT-L/CT-S ratio with visceral obesity in males. </p
