Short-range Correlations in a CBF description of closed-shell nuclei
The Correlated Basis Function theory (CBF) provides a theoretical framework
to treat on the same ground mean-field and short-range correlations. We
present, in this report, some recent results obtained using the CBF to describe
the ground state properties of finite nuclear systems. Furthermore we show some
results for the excited state obtained with a simplified model based on the CBF

Non-Canonical MSSM, Unification, And New Particles At The LHC
We consider non-canonical embeddings of the MSSM in high-dimensional orbifold
GUTs based on the gauge symmetry SU(N), N=5,6,7,8. The hypercharge
normalization factor k_Y can either have unique non-canonical values, such as
23/21 in a six-dimensional SU(7) model, or may lie in a (continuous) interval.
Gauge coupling unification and gauge-Yukawa unification can be realized in
these models by introducing new particles with masses in the TeV range which
may be found at the LHC. In one such example there exist color singlet

The mechanics of composite corrugated structures: A review with applications in morphing aircraft
Corrugation has long been seen as a simple and effective means of forming lightweight structures with high anisotropic behaviour, stability under buckling load and energy absorption capability. This has been exploited in diverse industrial applications and academic research. In recent years, there have been numerous innovative developments to corrugated structures, involving more elaborate and ingenious corrugation geometries and combination of corrugations with advanced materials. This development has been largely led by the research interest in morphing structures, which seek to exploit the extreme anisotropy of a corrugated panel, using the flexible degrees of freedom to allow a structure’s shape to change, whilst bearing load in other degrees of freedom. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the literature on corrugated structures, with applications ranging from traditional engineering structures such as corrugated steel beams through to morphing aircraft wing structures. As such it provides an important reference for researchers to have a broad but succinct perception of the mechanical behaviour of these structures. Such a perception is highly required in the multidisciplinary design of corrugated structures for the application in morphing aircraft
Quantum process reconstruction based on mutually unbiased basis
We study a quantum process reconstruction based on the use of mutually
unbiased projectors (MUB-projectors) as input states for a D-dimensional
quantum system, with D being a power of a prime number. This approach connects
the results of quantum-state tomography using mutually unbiased bases (MUB)
with the coefficients of a quantum process, expanded in terms of
MUB-projectors. We also study the performance of the reconstruction scheme
against random errors when measuring probabilities at the MUB-projectors.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur
A clean signal for a top-like isosinglet fermion at the Large Hadron Collider
We predict a clean signal at the Large Hadron Collider (=14 TeV for
a scenario where there is a top-like, charge +2/3 vectorlike isosinglet
fermion. Such a quark, via mixing with the standard model top, can undergo
decays via both flavour-changing Z-boson coupling and flavour-changing Yukawa
interactions. We concentrate on the latter channel, and study the situation
where, following its pair-production, the heavy quark pair gives rise to two
tops and two Higgs boson. We show that the case where each Higgs decays in the
channel, there can be a rather distinct and background-free signal
that can unveil the existence of the vectorlike isosinglet quark of this kind.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, 4 table
The G1 phase Cdks regulate the centrosome cycle and mediate oncogene-dependent centrosome amplification
Because centrosome amplification generates aneuploidy and since centrosome amplification is ubiquitous in human tumors, a strong case is made for centrosome amplification being a major force in tumor biogenesis. Various evidence showing that oncogenes and altered tumor suppressors lead to centrosome amplification and aneuploidy suggests that oncogenes and altered tumor suppressors are a major source of genomic instability in tumors, and that they generate those abnormal processes to initiate and sustain tumorigenesis. We discuss how altered tumor suppressors and oncogenes utilize the cell cycle regulatory machinery to signal centrosome amplification and aneuploidy
Generalized commutation relations and Non linear momenta theories, a close relationship
A revision of generalized commutation relations is performed, besides a
description of Non linear momenta realization included in some DSR theories. It
is shown that these propositions are closely related, specially we focus on
Magueijo Smolin momenta and Kempf et al. and L.N. Chang generalized
commutators. Due to this, a new algebra arises with its own features that is
