Phytohaemagglutinin on maternal and umbilical leukocytes

    Get PDF
Almost all the umbilical lymphocytes showed more extensive blast cell formation than that of their mother's lymphocytes with PHA. Pathological conditions of mother in pregnancy and labor such as anemia, gestational toxicosis, difficult labor and asphyxia of babies, inhibited the normal response of both maternal and umbilical lymphocytes to PHA.</p

Decision-Analysis under Extreme Uncertainties- Evaluating Unusual Weathers Caused by Global Warming

    Get PDF
In this paper we propose a new methodology of decision analysis under extreme uncertainties which could analyze the preference of various type of persons from pessimistic ones to optimistic ones. For this purpose we revise a previous axiom of dominance for constructing a measurable value function (utility function) under uncertainty based on Dempster-Shafer theory of probability. The previous axiom of dominance has dealt with only the best and the worst results in the set element. Here, we propose a new axiom of dominance after defining the value of the set element taking into account the average of the value of all the results included in the set element. It is shown that we can construct a measurable value function under uncertainty for a pessimistic, an ordinary or an optimistic person, based on this new axiom of dominance. An example of evaluating the alternative policies to decrease the emission of carbon dioxide for avoiding global warming is included

On the Selection of Photometric Planetary Transits

We present a new method for differentiating between planetary transits and eclipsing binaries based on the presence of the ellipsoidal light variations. These variations can be used to detect stellar secondaries with masses ~0.2 M_sun orbiting sun-like stars at a photometric accuracy level which has already been achieved in transit surveys. By removing candidates exhibiting this effect it is possible to greatly reduce the number of objects requiring spectroscopic follow up with large telescopes. Unlike the usual candidate selection method, which are primarily based on the estimated radius of the orbiting object, this technique is not biased against bona-fide planets and brown dwarfs with large radii, because the amplitude of the effect depends on the transiting object's mass and orbital distance. In many binary systems, where a candidate planetary transit is actually due to the partial eclipse of two normal stars, the presence of flux variations due to the gravity darkening effect will show the true nature of these systems. We show that many of the recent OGLE-III photometric transit candidates exhibit the presence of significant variations in their light curves and are likely to be due to stellar secondaries. We find that the light curves of white dwarf transits will generally not mimic those of small planets because of significant gravitationally induced flux variations. We discuss the relative merits of methods used to detect transit candidates which are due to stellar blends rather than planets. We outline how photometric observations taken in two bands can be used to detect the presence of stellar blends.Comment: ApJ, 11 pages, 2 figures, 1 table, replaced with accepted versio

Sistema de avaliação de impacto social da inovação tecnológica agropecuária (Ambitec-Social).

    Get PDF
Emprego, ii. Renda, iii.

XANES study of rare-earth valency in LRu4P12 (L = Ce and Pr)

Valency of Ce and Pr in LRu4P12 (L = Ce and Pr) was studied by L2,3-edge x-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy. The Ce-L3 XANES spectrum suggests that Ce is mainly trivalent, but the 4f state strongly hybridizes with ligand orbitals. The band gap of CeRu4P12 seems to be formed by strong hybridization of 4f electrons. Pr-L2 XANES spectra indicate that Pr exists in trivalent state over a wide range in temperature, 20 < T < 300 K. We find that the metal-insulator (MI) transition at TMI = 60 K in PrRu4P12 does not originate from Pr valence fluctuation.Comment: 4 page

Mixing among light scalar mesons and L=1 q\bar{q} scalar mesons

Following the re-establishment of the \sigma(600) and the \kappa(900), the light scalar mesons a_0(980) and f_0(980) together with the \sigma(600) and the \kappa(900) are considered as the chiral scalar partner of pseudoscalar nonet in SU(3) chiral symmetry, and the high mass scalar mesons a_0(1450), K^*_0(1430), f_0(1370) and f_0(1710) turned out to be considered as the L=1 q\bar{q} scalar mesons. We assume that the high mass of the L=1 q\bar{q} scalar mesons is caused by the mixing with the light scalar mesons. For the structure of the light scalar mesons, we adopted the qq\bar{q}\bar{q} model in order to explain the "scalar meson puzzle". The inter-mixing between the light scalar nonet and the high mass L=1 q\bar{q} nonet and the intra-mixing among each nonet are analyzed by including the glueball into the high mass scalar nonet.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figure

Luminescent coordination polymers based on Ca²⁺ and octahedral cluster anions [{M₆Clⁱ₈}Clᵃ₆}²⁻ (M = Mo, W) : synthesis and thermal stability studies

    Get PDF
Luminescent coordination polymers (CPs) based of inexpensive stable precursors are attractive materials for applications. Here we report the synthesis and evaluation of the stability and photophysical characteristics of the first examples of phosphorescent CPs based on octahedral molybdenum and tungsten cluster anions. Specifically 1D CP trans-[{Ca(OPPh₃)₄}{{M₆Clⁱ₈}Clᵃ₆}]∞ (M = Mo, W) can be obtained either directly at increased temperature or via intermediate phases [cis-Ca(OPPh₃)₄(H₂O)₂][{M₆Clⁱ₈}Clᵃ₆]∙2CH₃CN that are stable at room-temperature, but convert to the titled CP at temperatures above 100 °C
