Coupling Poisson and Jacobi structures on foliated manifolds
Let M be a differentiable manifold endowed with a foliation F. A Poisson
structure P on M is F-coupling if the image of the annihilator of TF by the
sharp-morphism defined by P is a normal bundle of the foliation F. This notion
extends Sternberg's coupling symplectic form of a particle in a Yang-Mills
field. In the present paper we extend Vorobiev's theory of coupling Poisson
structures from fiber bundles to foliations and give simpler proofs of
Vorobiev's existence and equivalence theorems of coupling Poisson structures on
duals of kernels of transitive Lie algebroids over symplectic manifolds. Then
we discuss the extension of the coupling condition to Jacobi structures on
foliated manifolds.Comment: LateX, 38 page
Interprofessional learning in practice: The student experience
Interprofessional learning and the development of teamworking skills are
recognised as essential for patient care and are also a government priority for
undergraduate education. Sixteen occupational therapy students worked on
an interprofessional training ward as part of their practice placement and three
of them participated in an evaluation using the nominal group technique.
Despite this small number, the evaluation identifies the value of this learning
experience in giving the students an opportunity to appreciate the importance of
interpersonal skills; to learn about other team members’ roles; and to experience
the challenges of working on a busy rehabilitation ward for older people
Vortex lattice structures of SrRuO
The vortex lattice structures of SrRuO for the odd parity
representations of the superconducting state are examined for the magnetic
field along the crystallographic directions. Particular emphasis is placed upon
the two dimensional representation which is believed to be relevant to this
material. It is shown that when the zero-field state breaks time reversal
symmetry, there must exist two superconducting transitions when there is a
finite field along a high symmetry direction in the basal plane. Also it is
shown that a square vortex lattice is expected when the field is along the
-axis. The orientation of the square lattice with respect to the underlying
ionic lattice yields information as to which Ru 4d orbitals are relevant to the
superconducting state.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
Upper critical field in layered superconductors
The theoretical statements about a restoration of a superconductivity at
magnetic fields higher than the quasiclassical upper critical field and a
reentrance of superconductivity at temperatures in the
superconductors with open Fermi surfaces are reinvestigated taking into account
a scattering of quasiparticles on the impurities.
The system of integral equations for determination of the upper critical
field parallel to the conducting planes in a layered conventional and
unconventional superconductors with impurities are derived. The
values for the "clean" case in the Ginzburg-Landau regime and at any
temperature in the "dirty" case are found analytically. The upper limit of the
superconductor purity when the upper critical field definately has a finite
value is established.Comment: 10 page
Anisotropy in the Antiferromagnetic Spin Fluctuations of Sr2RuO4
It has been proposed that Sr_2RuO_4 exhibits spin triplet superconductivity
mediated by ferromagnetic fluctuations. So far neutron scattering experiments
have failed to detect any clear evidence of ferromagnetic spin fluctuations
but, instead, this type of experiments has been successful in confirming the
existence of incommensurate spin fluctuations near q=(1/3 1/3 0). For this
reason there have been many efforts to associate the contributions of such
incommensurate fluctuations to the mechanism of its superconductivity. Our
unpolarized inelastic neutron scattering measurements revealed that these
incommensurate spin fluctuations possess c-axis anisotropy with an anisotropic
factor \chi''_{c}/\chi''_{a,b} of \sim 2.8. This result is consistent with some
theoretical ideas that the incommensurate spin fluctuations with a c-axis
anisotropy can be a origin of p-wave superconductivity of this material.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures; accepted for publication in PR
Origins of ferromagnetism in transition-metal doped Si
We present results of the magnetic, structural and chemical characterizations of Mn+-implanted Si displaying <i>n</i>-type semiconducting behavior and ferromagnetic ordering with Curie temperature,TC well above room temperature. The temperature-dependent magnetization measured by superconducting quantum device interference (SQUID) from 5 K to 800 K was characterized by three different critical temperatures (T*C~45 K, TC1~630-650 K and TC2~805-825 K). Their origins were investigated using dynamic secondary mass ion spectroscopy (SIMS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques, including electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), Z-contrast STEM (scanning TEM) imaging and electron diffraction. We provided direct evidences of the presence of a small amount of Fe and Cr impurities which were unintentionally doped into the samples together with the Mn+ ions, as well as the formation of Mn-rich precipitates embedded in a Mn-poor matrix. The observed T*C is attributed to the Mn4Si7 precipitates identified by electron diffraction. Possible origins of and are also discussed. Our findings raise questions regarding the origin of the high ferromagnetism reported in many material systems without a careful chemical analysis
Cohomology of skew-holomorphic Lie algebroids
We introduce the notion of skew-holomorphic Lie algebroid on a complex
manifold, and explore some cohomologies theories that one can associate to it.
Examples are given in terms of holomorphic Poisson structures of various sorts.Comment: 16 pages. v2: Final version to be published in Theor. Math. Phys.

Mechanism of spin-triplet superconductivity in Sr2RuO4
The unique Fermi surfaces and their nesting properties of Sr2RuO4 are
considered. The existence of unconventional superconductivity is shown
microscopically, for the first time, from the magnetic interactions (due to
nesting) and the phonon-mediated interactions. The odd-parity superconductivity
is favored in the and sheets of the Fermi surface, and the
various superconductivities are possible in the sheet. There are a
number of possible odd-parity gaps, which include the gaps with nodes, the
breaking of time-reversal symmetry and .Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
The ground state of Sr3Ru2O7 revisited; Fermi liquid close to a ferromagnetic instability
We show that single-crystalline Sr3Ru2O7 grown by a floating-zone technique
is an isotropic paramagnet and a quasi-two dimensional metal as spin-triplet
superconducting Sr2RuO4 is. The ground state is Fermi liquid with very low
residual resistivity (3 micro ohm cm for in-plane currents) and a nearly
ferromagnetic metal with the largest Wilson ratio Rw>10 among paramagnets so
far. This contrasts with the ferromagnetic order at Tc=104 K reported on single
crystals grown by a flux method [Cao et al., Phys. Rev. B 55, R672 (1997)]. We
have also found a dramatic changeover from paramagnetism to ferromagnetism
under applied pressure. This suggests the existence of a substantial
ferromagnetic instability on the verge of a quantum phase transition in the
Fermi liquid state.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev. B : Rapid co
